If you have live, exposed wires behind the dash you have other issues. There shouldn't be an issue with the aluminised tape being exposed. Even if a wire did hit it, the tape is not grounded to the vehicle because the dash is plastic, so not much will happen unless you have a ground wire also touching the tape.
I didn't know either until a week ago, ordered the same day I saw it. I got mine from Crutchfield since it was the only place at the time (besides eBay) that was selling it. Got everything else from Sonic Electronix though, was a good $150 cheaper for the radio.
@@MajorWeakness I use Android Auto, which uses Google Maps as navigation. (have to step up to the AVH-W8500NEX to have native navigation on the unit) Haven't used the Google Maps navigation on this specific unit yet, but I have on the 4201NEX which is in my Yukon. They are the same basic radio but this one is 3 years newer and seems way more responsive to touch.
Dude this is awesome I've had a 2000 for about 3 years and have been wanting to do this also, have been looking at the Sony xav ax 7000, but looking at it I'm wondering if it will hit or be in the way of the ac controls, I would probably go with android based cause I have nothing but samsung phone and tablet, what kind of speakers do you have or are going to install the sony has a pretty good amp in it so I want to get some good speakers.
Hey man awesome vid! So I’ve got a double din radio coming in. I already had a pioneer single din Installed when I first got the car. Do I still need to buy a wiring harness? I can’t just unplug the single din and plug the double din In? Double din is a 6.2” Kenwood.
Yes and no. Kenwood and pioneer have different radio side plugs. Now, you can cut the Pioneer plug off the harness in the vehicle now and replace it with the pigtail that comes with the Kenwood radio. So if you want to make a new harness you will need to buy a new adapter harness. Or you can keep the adapter harness that's already in the vehicle and just swap the radio ends so the Kenwood will plug up.
I've not noticed any decrease of flow at all. All you do when you cut it is trim the edges off, it's not in any direct path for air. Chrysler just decided to use the HVAC box as a main dash support so pretty much everything in or on the dash mounts to the HVAC box in some way.
Blame RUclips. I had no control where the mid ads went older videos. RUclips just said F the creator and enabled mid ads on all videos over 8 minutes. I could go back over every video and change it but I haven't had the time.
Did the Wireless Apple car play work without the VSS wired in? I have the same stereo (in its box) and instal kit, but am hung up on the damned pink wire
If you are installing it into a Jeep XJ, you can't wire in a VSS signal because Jeep doesn't provide that to the OEM radio. And I don't use Apple Car Play, I have a android, so I don't know if it works. If you need it, you would need to tap into the wire behind the gauge cluster.
You mention the reverse wire quite a bit. Is that just because you’re also doing a rear camera install? Or is it critical to the head unit for a reason I’m missing?
Is there a way i can connect reverse wire to activate camera when i shift to reverse but also if i wana view behind me i can just click camera button n it activates while driving/In any gear selection?
Yes, just hook the power of the camera to igniting power and not to the reverse lights/signal. That's how I have my Yukon setup. The radio is wired up to the reverse signal as it should be.
@@DanielPace92 so from the back up camera wire harness hook that to ignition power wire that will power the Radio up. I should still hook up the (camera wire) in radio harness to factory reverse signal wire correct?
@@elchulo6743 No, the backup wire for the radio harness - hook that up to the factory reverse signal. The camera itself should have a separate power, hook that up to ignition power.
It eliminates the need to connect the parking brake, also lets you use functions of the radio while driving/in gear that would otherwise be locked unless you are stopped with the E-brake on.
@@DanielPace92 got a part number? I am in the middle of the install and don't know where the Pink ( car speed signal ) and Green ON/OFF parking brake cable should connect.
You don't need the pink, that's for wireless carplay only. But I think is no longer needed, also the Jeep doesn't provide that anyway. The green parking brake wire connects to the switch on the parking brake, you have to take the inner part of the center console storage out. Under that is the parking brake and a switch you need to connect it to. Vehicle side of the parking brake switch, not ground side.
An oscillating tool is perfect for this job. I have a Makita that makes fine work of all kinds of precision cutting tasks. Thanks for the video!
remember don't let any live wires hit that metal tape. it might be a good idea to put some plastic packing tape over it.

I got that kit and the same head unit because I had the 80prs but wanted something a little more modern and I wanted to keep the 3 way active network.
Wow, I didn't know this was available. Thanks for the video
JeepCables.com is stocking them now!
@@Proth1975 thanks I'll check them out

Have you noticed a significant decrease in air flow on the ac? Everything i have seen says this is a cross over tube not a direct path for flow.

Why didnt you put the usb where the power point/cig lighter was located, they have a kit to snap it inplace. Other then that its a clean install.
Because I still use my 12v outlets from time to time, otherwise I would have done that.
