- In today's video I finally get around to installing my new Jeep XJ double din radio kit from @jeepcables!!!!
It turned out amazing and I'm extremely excited about the outcome!! This is easily one of the best upgrades I've ever done and it really cleans up the interior of my Jeep Cherokee!

My dude, I need a more in-depth tutorial with all the parts listed, especially that cigarette port thing. I was gonna start some other shit, but now this is #1 priority lmao. I HATED how some of these radio mods weren't flush or looked janky. But this is perfect, clean.

Could ya give me advice on rear camera hook up. What wire ya tapped into? And for the rca cables to the back howd that get power to it. Etc.

Hi Eric - is there a video u recommend on wiring? This one didn’t have a lot of detail, and this would be my first time monkeying with the electronics. (I’m not even sure what terms I should use, except “harness”, which is obviously too general. Thx in advance.

I noticed the temperature control panel is different, yours are knobs that turn, while mine is a long slider

Ay yo. That stereo you installed is no longer available. Are there special mounting requirements for the Jeep? Or should any double din unit work with the mods we need to do?

You wouldn’t need the USB connect if you got a stereo with wireless apple cad play. Right?

I appreciate it! On this set up I was running a 4.5 inch coil in the front with adjustable control arms, the back was a 4.5 inch leaf back with an add-a-leaf kit for pulling my boat. The wheels and tires were 33x12.50 on 15x8 wheels with 1.5 wheel spacers

its definitely worth the upgrade!! I believe its a metra product you can order from their factory, but I will contact jeep cables and see when they will be back!

You could probably fabricate a bracket out of some scrap metal if you wanted. Also for the back up camera I would just wire it into your reverse lights!

Thanks man! It’s super simple it’s just a universal camera that taps into the power of my reverse lights. I ran the wire inside and to the back of the radio!
This is great, my one complaint is you left out how you routed the cabling for the backup camera from the tailgate to the head unit.
Graham Green yeah I know I should have kept the camera rolling! All I did was pop all the panels off and route the wire along the passenger side of the car. Feel free to message me if you have any questions!!

Yeah man! For me I plugged it into the back of the radio and looks very clean and factory like. I did have to drill the old hole out a bit bigger after removing the old outlet, but it fits very well. There are a few different options but I opted for the USB 3.0 that charges faster.

Great video ! I got a question . I recent just added the same exact setup . The touch screen boots up and everything is fine except now my dash light and gear light won’t turn on . At first I thought my fuse broke but that was not it . Anyone else with the same issue .
Hmmm that’s a weird one, I had an issue awhile back with my gauge lights it was something with a fuse in the kick panel.

I actually ordered a set for a jeep jk and fit them to my jeep by attaching them to my lightbar mount and using the tab that was included at the hood!
Where did you get the aux cable extension to replace your cigarette outlet?
I found it on amazon for 10 bucks, it works great and looks very clean!

Kneeknockers 17 I’m running a 4.5 inch lift and 33x12.50s! I like the look and I didn’t have to regear. Hopefully one day I’ll go one tons and 40s haha
Where did you get the backup camera from and was it hard to wire up?
Jonathan Lukasik I managed to find a cheap one off amazon for about 10 bucks. Running the wires was pretty easy I just had to unbolt all of the panels to get it up to the radio. I made a custom bracket to mount on my license plate holder, but most cameras include the piece that bolts to your stock plate I just didn’t like how it looked!
I recently got an XJ and I've been rewatching your jeep videos over and over trying to decide what radio i would want to put in with the bezel. I was just wondering what are the dimensions it could possibly take after removing the plastic bits from the jeep? Or will any dimensions work for 7" screens?
The kit I purchased from jeep cables is meant for any double din radio, I believe it will fit the 7 inch screen!

Sorry I missed your comment. The USB port is solely for the CarPlay in the radio, you have to be connected to run it. So instead of running a wire to the back of the radio, the USB port I got fits in the old cigarette lighter and connects to the back of the radio. I like it because it looks factory!
Looking at buying an XJ and this is a sweet upgrade. Can I run the pioneer radio without the backup camera?

Its definitely one of my favorite things I've done! That stinks they haven't came out with a wood grain style.

Luke Doherty I had already spliced in a harness before with the old radio, all I did was take that apart and reuse the old harness!

I know in other pioneer models this is possible, but can you view the rear camera when not in reverse? Does this unit auto regulate the brightness?
D L I know there is a way but I haven’t messed with it enough to figure it out. And yes it does auto regulate brightness, there is a wire in the harness that hooks up to the headlight switch. Whenever I turn my headlights on it dims the radio.

Great video!! Frankly I'm a novice and don't have access to the tools/garage space, and don't know what I'm doing with wire splicing. Do you know what it would run me to have a customs shop do the legwork on this one? Will probably upgrade my speakers while I'm at it too. Preciate anyone's input!
I'm not sure on pricing but I'm sure you could get it done somewhere pretty cheap! It's not that bad to do yourself though, good luck!

Any issue using this radio in the USA? This is an Australia and foreign market model number.
I haven't had any issues with it, they may have changed the link though. My radio is just a pioneer touchscreen with CarPlay

I ended up routing a USB port and aux cord into my old cigarette lighter and connected it to the radio. It turned out great, I show it a little in the video! 👍🏻

No I’ve just got the back up camera!
How did you route the camera wire from the outside of your tailgate?
I managed to mount the camera on top of my license plate and then run the wire through the spare and along the swinging arm and then through the tail light and down the passenger side panels inside. I went ahead and cover it with a wire loom and zip ties holding it and haven’t had any issues 👍🏻

Sorry about that, I got the Pioneer DMH-Z5150BT, I'm not sure why the link isn't working. I think they may have discontinued it and made an updated model I'm not sure. But mine still works great after few months of use!
How are you liking this setup after a year? Any changes or anything you'd do differently?
So far it's been great, the bezel has held up very well. The only thing I would've done differently is buy a better quality back up camera, the cheap one I ordered works about half the time. I've been thinking about doing an update video on it, would you be interested in seeing that?

How is the radio wired to know when it’s in reverse to display the back up camera
I actually managed to wire the trigger wire into the reverse lights, so whenever they turn on the camera turns on!
