      Unfortunately when you have depression and you find a way to help you deal with it such as being a shopaholic but the more you bring in you bury yourself and feel so overwhelmed that you don't know where to start. That's the tricky thing with depression you often times make it worse by what you're doing that gives you a short lived happiness

      I’m a property manager and I’ve definitely seen far worse of all types of situations. A woman whose house was one of the worst let a child come over and have a sleepover. So she chose that night to skip out and move. I had a frantic grandfather of the boy just horrified because she left the door unlocked so he went in. So I just kept calling every single number I could find in her file. Finally tracked her down later that afternoon acting like it was no big deal to have a child over and move and not tell anyone.

      I feel like Hoarders takes rooms back to its presumed roots (whatever is under the piles). In his case, “a little boy’s” room was underneath the hoard instead of “a teenager.” Hopefully he can figure out the decor on his own. Maybe someone will show him how to paint and spackle. At any rate, even though he is a teen, he was obviously overjoyed by the result. The way he was so proud to just sit on his bed. It really was beautiful to see.

A lot of stuff is also from our parents who have passed on. I think I really just need time and space to organize. It looks like on the show a lot of really good stuff gets trashed. I have no problem with giving away but not trashing. I guess I’m just going to have to make the time and space to sort it all out.

      Sally, I'm behind you 100%! No reason to trash useful or saleable items. Get the money and do not add to the environmental problem. So many people are surprised that others will pay money for their things. So many people can make use of your "treasures." Sometimes I take pictures before sending my items to a "better place."
      I watch family and friends admire things. They later receive them as a gift or a thank you or just a cheer you up! Just the cost of wrapping paper! 😅. This was especially true when people were locked in during the pandemic and I had things they needed.

    I have adopted kids so I love this grandma for raising her grandchildren but what she doesn't realize if that if her stuff takes over every room it pushes her grandchildren out when they may still need a room to study in.......If she wants her grandkids to go to university or even community college they need their own rooms without all her junk.........I have a relation who is a hoarder and even if something is cheap ( like in a thrift store) if U have 10 of them U don't need another one just because it is $1.......When hoards get this big people don't know what they have and accidentally have 7 or 9 of one item because they can't remember buying the last item.

      I noticed that a lot of these hoarders are shopaholics. One of my friends is a shopaholic. They are fairly clean but hit the thift stores, yardsales too much. Then it is hard to get rid of things that you have spent so much $ on. Money that could be spent on children's education, retirement, traveling, something worthwhile. On line shopping can be very dangerous. I always say that if I was an alcoholic, I wouldn't go to the bar or the liquor store!

    • @coreysuffield
      @coreysuffield 2 года назад

      newer homes are better sealed from letting dust blow in, so that might be a factor. another factor is how recent the hoard was accumulated, other videos show hoards that have been building over 30-50 years, this video mentioned it had only been 5 years

    The challenge is accepting help and working on her sickness. A lot of these hoarders on this show are asking for help for the wrong reason. The Hoarder should be the one requesting help not a family member, fear of losing their homes, or City fines. I wish the best for everyone Hoarders helped in the past. But some of them belong in prison.

    If I was a Hoarder trying to adjust and let go of my things, I would have a much easier time of it and feel soo..much better if good items were donated and undamaged antiques and collectibles went to an auction house. That is what needs to be sorted. Too much ends up in garbage and it makes a person cringe. Saw items in the trash that should have been donated or auctioned. Would set anyone off.

      Things that can be recycled or donated of the things put on the trucks are recycled or donated. What REALLY slows down a cleanup, in my experience from having moved 14 times as an adult, is having to find a home for things one item at a time.. When I am getting ready to move, I start filing boxes with items that I want to donate. For me, giving something away and throwing it away are psychologically equivalent, because I no longer have the item. I regret about 2% of what I give away or throw away, but usually the regret comes long after I got rid of the item. .
