    7:58 I’d follow through on how the originators of the “butt pack” used it. They typically held socks and cover. Maybe a change of briefs. In mine I’d keep: extra socks, ultralight tarp, contractors bag. Extra 27” square bandana. Maybe an extra IDB. The idea being to use the butt pack for the “mushy” or lofty items that could serve as an added lumbar pad when placed between one’s back & chair. Or as a butt donut, if sat on.
    The PSK would be minimized down further and cross loaded across the pockets of my garments. Enjoyed the video. Thank you very much.
    PS: remember gang, WEIGHT.
    When a belt gets too heavy, without a suspension system (like the Y or H harness in US military) the belt will drag one’s trousers halfway down their “getcha where the Good Lord splitch’ya” And frankly the belt will languish in the closet.

      Thanks so much for your kind words, insights and reminder. I am constantly trying to little the belt kit. I do not feel it is heavy but it is not light. It is still evolving well.

    Very impressive, I built mine on a condor battle belt with a heavy duty UTG duty belt and duel 5.11 drop leg thigh rigs with load bearing suspenders, I carry nearly all my tools on my waist and off my back, which keeps my pack nice and light with more room for shelter cooking and sleeping gear. but I'm loving this minimalist rig, its nice for a day in the woods with what you need to get out of a stick situation should one arise... Nicely done.

    • @urbanknifeguy
      @urbanknifeguy  Год назад +1

      Thanks for the kind words. I explored drop legs as I like the look and functionality but did not find them comfortable for long hikes. How do you manage the rubbing and potential chaffing against the inner thighs?

    • @UrbCrafter
      @UrbCrafter Год назад

      @@urbanknifeguy To be honest i went through 5 or 6 different platforms before i decided to go with the 5.11, they are unique in their own right, the straps that secure the platform to your leg are a heavy duty elastic and the padding on the back of the platform allow you to cinch it down pretty tight and still allow for good circulation in your legs. they are getting hard to find these days but they are insanely comfortable, i have never had an issue with comfort...
      I actually have 4 of them with interchangeable gear one has my knives fire steel and saw the other my level 2 trauma kit, another with my side arm and extra magazines and the 4th that has my Parag sharpener and hatchet attached. the buckle makes it easy to swap them out as i need them and i have modified my pack to carry the platforms i am not using at the moment...

    They call those type of belts Rigger's belt. Do you have any rope attachment points on that belt. Rigger's belts generally have a loop to be able to use for abseiling.
    I like the setup mate. It looks very useful.

    • @urbanknifeguy
      @urbanknifeguy  Год назад

      No rope attachments and I don't think it will be safe to abseil from as any slack can disengage the clip. These were used in the Singapore Military in the 80s but without the molle system and inner Velcro belts.

      @urbanknifeguy  2 года назад

      Thanks! It depends on your needs and if you require the shovel for your purposes. If you intend to build a dakota fire or latrine, then you will need a shovel. But personally, I would not keep it on my belt as I consider that a camp tool that will be used at a specific location. So, I would keep that with my pack. I feel the belt should be stuff you need at all or anything. A shovel would also add significant weight. In a pinch, my sheepfoot parang/ machete can be used to dig. But obviously not as effectively as a shovel.

    saw a mini survival belt kit like this on reallybigmonkey1's channel and decided to build one. but instead of 2 or 3 pouches i ended up putting on 8 pouches taking up the whole belt. it looked like i was going to war. that's really the challenge, of taking only what you truly need instead of every possible thing plus redundancies for redundancies

    • @urbanknifeguy
      @urbanknifeguy  Год назад +2

      Yes, there will also be a point of diminishing returns when you load up too much gear, IMO. Personally, I will reduce redundancies for a survival belt. Keep the redundancies for the pack. I generally think main tools, navigation and a survival kit are good enough for a belt.

    Hi Mate ! actually, you don't use your belt, the way it's was made for...put the velcro part line on your pants, then attach the outline with kit around it. this way, your belt doesn't slide around your hips. best regards from France...

    • @urbanknifeguy

      Thanks for sharing! That makes sense for a very secure fit. But it would be a very troublesome way of putting on and off the belt though. Currently, the belt does not slide for me. I also don't think my pant loops are big enough for the Velcro belt.

    A belt system of loading gear is far better than a complete backpack loading system, because it not only transfers a portion of the load off the shoulders/spine which should reduce fatigue, but also allows the torso and hips to rotate normally trusting that the backpack doesn't extend to the hips or lower. Torso rotation permits moving faster as you've maintained your basic pace speed vs loosing it with a long pack. My only disappointment with your belt solution is that a few pieces of your gear such as your knife interferes with your body as you move - interfering with your thought processes and far less able to gain access to it. I placed my scabbarded knife horizontally on my belt up front for swift deployment, a much faster and easier removal. I glued two webbing loops on the scabbard to achieve it.

    • @urbanknifeguy
      @urbanknifeguy  Год назад

      Thanks for your thoughtful comment. I fully agree with reducing weight from a pack and when I am stopping in a hiking or making "camp" for bushcraft tasks, I hang my pack up but still have all I need on my belt. It also allows me to explore further out without being compromised without basic gear. I have since improved the knife set up by changing to a custom kydex sheath whichever rides higher on the belt, and it is also repositioned to my right back side (4pm position) where it is more out of the way. Thanks again.

    First of all, you’re using the belt and inner belt wrong.
    Second, the claw gear KD one, and Tardigrade Tactical Low Profile Laminate Belt, is a beast setup, with tactical pants with double belt loops.
