@@ethos2781 --What's your point? This isn't about his death. This is about him winning the Academy Award up against some of our best actors. In their best roles, & rightfully so. It is so boring to me when all someone can say about a person, is how they died from DRUGS! Like everyone doesn't already know this. Do you want to talk about how complex, & untreated, & misunderstood drug addiction is in the U.S.? That might be interesting.

Saw a documentary last night about his last days. He was so lost and alone. He was living apart from his family because of his addiction, taking prescription drugs as well as illicit, wandering around Greenwich Village in a daze. I can't reconcile this adulation here with him not having a solitary soul to recoginse he was in terrible trouble and to take him in hand. Sometimes you have to step into someone's life and take control even if they don't want you to and you risk embarrassment. "Look, mate, you're in trouble. We're gonna sort this," is sometimes all it takes to turn someone's life around. This was a tragedy all round that needn't have happened.

He managed to put out one of the greatest and most iconic performances of modern movies and then he died before anything came of it for him. Hoffman managed numerous performances of that caliber, imo. Capote, Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead, The Master, and even his more minor roles like in The Big Lebowski are just knockouts. This was one of the best Best Actor lineups I have ever seen! Wow. Philip Seymour Hoffman, my favorite actor, gave the performance of the decade in my opinion. Joaquin Phoenix was phenomenal in Walk the Line, I truly love that film and his work in it. And Heath Ledger gave one of the most heartbreaking and controlled performances I have seen in Brokeback Mountain. Also an applaus to Strathairn and Terrence Howard, and others including Russell Crowe for Cinderella Man. Great year for acting.

Twitter, Facebook, RUclips, the internet in general. It's all a slippery slope. People nowadays only care about getting more recognition for themselves, more likes, re-tweets, subscriptions. As if any of that really matters, as if it matters more than a human life.
And the really sad part is that to most people, though they won't admit it, and lie through their teeth, it does mean more. How many people could honestly say that they would pass up RUclips fame to save a random person's life, or even a celebrity that they aren't particularly fond of.
And it just gets worse from here. Soon we'll all have a variant of Google Glass, and we'll never have to see each-other again.
