I know this is your personal list, but It happened One Night is amazing. You included the other two movies that won the top five awards but not the first to do it. I think that it still holds up for the most part. Also surprised Parasite didn’t make the top 10 with your love for it. It’s the only BP winner I haven’t seen yet.

I watched it, and didn't understand the hype. It was a good movie, great performances. But not an all timer imo. But your opinion very common, people love that movie. I think Sunset Boulevard is about 10x better. That is an all time great to me.

I had the same experience with Lawrence of Arabia my movie theater was cleared because of a fire but my friend and I stayed in the balcony at the best Cinema Plex in Nashville. It was monumental to get to see it priva
My personal Top 10: 1. The Apartment 2. Casablanca 3. The Godfather 4. American Beauty 5. Ben-Hur 6. Schindler's List 7. From Here to Eternity 8. All Quiet on the Western Front (1930) 9. Titanic 10. My top 10 1. Schindlers List 2. The Deer Hunter 3. Titanic 4. No Country For Old Men 5. The Godfather 6. Spotlight 7. Gone With The Wind 8. Kramer Vs Kramer 9 The Silence of the Lambs 10. All Quiet on The Western Front

Brian, if you happen to read this, I just wanted you to know that your channel was the background entertainment for my wife and I for our gift wrapping marathon today. Every year we get up early on 12/24, throw something on in the background, and just wrap wrap wrap. I’ve been a subscriber for a while but my wife was new to it today. She dug it. It was just what the doctor ordered. Your videos on wins you don’t like spawned much conversation. Happy Holidays.
"Braveheart" is the greatest best picture of all time for me. It is absolutely unforgettable. I love one flew over the cuckoo's nest too and titanic, mystic river. Toy story 3 is definitely a movie that should of won

Braveheart (1995) 7. Titanic (1997) 8. The Silence of the Lambs (1991) 9. On the Waterfront (1954) 10. The Godfather (1972)

@StonedUp1 okay..??? what’s DEI got to do with anything? Moonlight is a Best Picture winning film. this is a video about Best Picture winners. i think moonlight should be up there. what’s DEI about that? make an actual argument on the merits of the movie!
@@malikastlaurent Cuz it's a list of only ten films? I mean, literally dozens of Best Picture winners would be ranked amongst the greatest films of all time, right? And I mean dozens of them would rank amongst the "TOP top films" and Brian's list here only included: _The Godfather, The Godfather: Part II, Casablanca, Lawrence of Arabia, All About Eve, Schindler's List, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, The Silence of the Lambs, Rebecca, Gone with the Wind._ And think about the many other Best Picture winners that also rank amongst the "TOP top films" that Brian didn't even include like _On the Waterfront_ as he said would be #11. But also: _Unforgiven, No Country for Old Men, The Bridge on the River Kwai, Rocky, The Apartment, Annie Hall, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, Amadeus, It Happened One Night, The Deer Hunter, The French Connection_ etc. and the list goes on! All the aforementioned films have a much bigger reputation than _Moonlight,_ and they all appear on many lists of the greatest films of all time. That's why basically no one has _Moonlight_ in their top 10. If he made a list of 30, it probably would make it. And also, Best Picture winners like _The Sting, Forrest Gump, Braveheart, Gladiator, The Departed, Million Dollar Baby, Platoon_ and _Parasite_ are all immensely popular and all rank high on the Top 250. And other very popular films not on the Top 250 include _Titanic, Dances with Wolves, The Sound of Music_ would rank on many people's list based simply on their popularity. Can't imagine a lot of people would have _Moonlight_ in their top 10 or even their top 75 of all time. That's why you're not seeing it here in comments. It's certainly a great film and one of the best recent films, but for an "all-timer" list, its reputation is certainly not THAT big.
@@rustincohle2135 i mean, certainly it takes time for a film’s legacy to cement for sure. i would agree that based on reputation the film’s popularity is barely comparable next to films like Casablanca and All About Eve. don’t get me wrong, Casablanca is my favorite and what i think to be the best film all time imho, but i think if films like Parasite or Everything Everwhere can be considered top films by people in this conversation, then Moonlight should be considered amongst them for a couple reasons. 1. if we’re going by merits of the film (granted Sight and Sound is obv not perfect), but Moonlight is 60 on that list which i believe puts it in the top category of Best Picture winners 2. there are a few moment is Moonlight that i believe should be considered “pure cinema” like the scene where Ali teaches Little to swim, the shot where Chiron is staring at the mirror after the fight with kevin, and one of the greatest uses of music the scene with “Hello Stranger” playing at the restaurant. those scenes are all done incredibly well. particularly the swimming shot i feel is up there with the Ingrid Bergman “As Time Goes By” shot in terms of emotion and execution. 3. there’s a case to be made that the La La Land/Moonlight snafu did make a splash in oscar’s history just like Parasite’s win did. there’s a lot of amazing films that have won Best Picture, no doubt there’s a lot of reasonable choices people could make for a top 10. and still, i think Moonlight is a technical marvel with narrative and thematic depth and complexity while still creating an incredibly cinematic experience that deserves at minimum consideration as a top best picture winner, especially if Parasite and Everything Everywhere are considered (which i think they should be!) that being said, there are plenty of movies out there, and people can absolutely make the case for various top 10s. although, the cinema canon has room for this film, to me. Moonlight is certainly underrated is what i’ll say. wherever is lands on a list, i think its legacy will endure.
This is just my opinion 10 - Amadeus 9- on the waterfront 8- the godfather part 2 7- the godfather 6- Casablanca 5 - west side story 4- Braveheart 3- one flew over the cuckoo's nest 2- silence of the lambs 1 - Rocky
Thank you, thank you for including GWTW on your list. It remains my all time favorite, maybe because I saw it as a girl of 12 in the 60's. Movies that "don't age well" can be appreciated when watched in historical context. And who makes the decision, anyway?
I'm black and watched GWTW many times growing up. It is indeed a cinematic achievement and I myself consider it an all time great movie. But please don't dismiss the opinions of people offended by its depiction of black slaves in the Antabellum south. They are speaking of their very painful history and their ancestors and their perspectives are valid.
In no particular order: Amadeus Parasite Shindlers List The Godfather The Godfather II Silence of the Lambs Casablanca Gone with the Wind All about Eve Titanic
Mine are: 1. Godfather 2. Patton 3. Tom Jones 4. My Fair Lady 5. One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest 6. Gladiator 7. English Patient 8. Bridge on the River Kwai. 9. French Connection 10. Dances with Wolves
Since it's about who we like I'm going with 1. Casablanca 2. Silence Of The Lambs 3. All Quiet On The Western Front 4. One Flew Over The Cukoos Nest 5. The Godfather 6. The French Connection 7. Midnight Cowboy 8. Unforgiven 9. The Godfather Part Ii 10. No Country For Old Men. How Ralph Fiennes didn't win the Oscar for Schindler's List is unbelievable.
Excellent list Brian. Can’t deny they are all incredible, deserving wins. I would also love to add my personal favourite winners - Oppenheimer, Lord of The Rings, Titanic, Gladiator, Braveheart, Rocky, Forrest Gump.
It's impossible to narrow this down to ten. I can't argue any of your selections, even if they exclude The Apartment and The Deer Hunter and a number of other films I might consider.
@@maxfieldfulton No, it's not. It won Best Picture. It's on the Top 250. It's on many many lists of the greatest of all time. It's definitely not underrated.
What a phenomenal list Brian! I was glad to see The Godfather at #1. It is a masterpiece as is Godfather II, which most people think is the better film. Not me though. I was thrilled to see Gone with the Wind on this list. It is a magnificent production.
1.The Apartment 2.The Sound of Music 3.Everything Everywhere All At Once 4.The Best Years of Our Lives 5.Chicago 6.The Silence of The Lambs 7.Shindler's List 8.It Happened One Night 9.Casablanca 10.Parasite
Rebecca is a great movie, but I’d put it down on my list of Hitchcock films. But it’s our only choice for a Hitchcock Best Picture (how is that possible??) so I’m glad it made the list. Worse, Hitchcock never won a best director Oscar, not even for Rebecca (how?????).
@ I know. It’s egregious to think that some of Hitchcock’s greatest films never won an Oscar like Rear Window or Vertigo which I considered a masterpiece.
@@Tricki_WooI can give Rear Window not winning any Oscars a pass since On the Waterfront did deserve its Oscar wins, but Vertigo not winning any Oscars is an understandable upset.
My list: 1. Casablanca 2. The Godfather 3. The Godfather Part II 4. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King 5. Schindler’s List 6. On the Waterfront 7. Gone With the Wind 8. Lawerence of Arabia 9. The Best Years of Our Lives 10. Forrest Gump
My Fair Lady from 1964 is easily my favorite. Probably the best musical ever made with one of the great Best Actor Oscar winning performances by Rex Harrison.
Sunrise, On the Waterfront, All About Eve, Lawrence of Arabia, Patton, The Godfather, The Last Emperor, The Silence of the Lambs, Moonlight, & Parasite are my favorite Best Picture Oscar Winners.
Thank you. 1. Hattie M's iconic performance in Gone with the Wind deflates arguments that film downplayed the treatment of the enslaved people. a. I also argue that the film truly shows how the enslaved were mostly worthless to an ignorant evil society. b. Only Mammy and Melonie were redemmable. Scarlett, Rhett, and Wesley were tragic characters. 2. #4 and #5 have parallels. a. Cookoos Nest and Silence won all five top Oscars. Only It Happened One Night is the other. b. Both get category fraud arguments for Anthony H and Louise F.
These are my top 10. I always redo my full Oscar BP ranking after each Oscar ceremony; not much changes at the top or the bottom. 1. All About Eve 2. The Silence of the Lambs 3. Gone with the Wind 4. It Happened One Night 5. Moonlight 6. Lawrence of Arabia 7. The Bridge on the River Kwai 8. The Godfather Part II 9. The Godfather 10. Casablanca
I'm a fan of the Best Picture wins for "Unforgiven" "Rain Man" "Amadeus" and "Forrest Gump" in addition to several of the wins on your list. Unforgiven was my choice for best film of 1992 and ranked very high on my best-of-the-90s list.
Personally was underwhelmed by Unforgiven. Other than performances from Hackman and Freeman I didn't get it. Much prefer Million Dollar Baby and even Mystic River.
@@bjesgirl Well, to fully appreciate _Unforgiven,_ you need to be familiar with the westerns that came before it. _Unforgiven_ is primarily concerned with deconstructing the morally black-and-white vision of the American West that was established by traditional works in the genre, as David Webb Peoples’ script is saturated with unnerving reminders of Munny’s own horrific past as a murderer and gunfighter haunted by the lives he's taken, while the film as a whole _"reflects a reverse image of classical Western tropes":_ the protagonists, rather than avenging a God-fearing innocent, are hired to collect a bounty for a group of prostitutes. Men who claim to be fearless killers are either exposed as cowards and weaklings or self-promoting liars, while others find that they no longer have it in them to take another life. A writer with no conception of the harshness and cruelty of frontier life publishes stories that glorify common criminals as infallible men of honor. The law is represented by a pitiless and cynical former gunslinger whose idea of justice is often swift and without mercy, and while the main protagonist initially tries to resist his violent impulses, the murder of his friend drives him to become the same cold-blooded killer he once was, suggesting that a Western hero is not necessarily _"the good guy",_ but rather _"just the one who survived"._
Allow me to say that your insights about movies are fantastic, your passion for movies really shines through. I also agree with a lot that you say in your videos. Keep up the good job. 👌👌
Seriously, the timing. I've literally been thinking the past couple days what my 10 favorite b.p. winners are, and now this. You kinda made my day. Anyway, 1. Birdman 2. American Beauty 3. Everything Everywhere All At Once 4. No Country For Old Men 5. Oppenheimer (didn't love it as much as the rest of you, but still a very solid movie) 6. Schindler's List 7. The French Connection 8. Platoon 9. Annie Hall 10. The Silence of the Lambs Ironically, I used to like the Godfather as much as the next guy, but it's worn a little bit thin over the years and with a few viewings. Have you ever thought of making a 10 Best Picture Nominees that you think should've won Best Picture instead of the Winner?
My choices are: 1 The Godfather (1972) 2 Platoon (1986) 3 The Godfather Part II (1974) 4 Lawrence of Arabia (1962) 5 Schindler's List (1993) 6 No Country for Old Men (2007) 7 From Here to Eternity (1953) 8 Mutiny on the Bounty (1935) 9 Patton (1970) 10 Unforgiven (1992)
Funny Girl is in my top 20 or maybe higher. This introduced me to Barbra Streisand who I have loved since then although not politically. IT IS A FREE country and she puts her money where her mouth is and I admire her for this honesty. Now let’s continue to make movies as works of ART. Merry Christmas to all; this means I am spreading the message of joy to one and all, excluding NO ONE. Ciao 12/24/2024 from St. Louis MO💗😍❣️
Lord of the Rings: Return of the King The Sound of Music Schindler’s List Braveheart Platoon Silence of the Lambs Unforgiven The Departed The Godfather The Godfather 2 Honorable Mention: Rocky Favorite won the award and had it taken away movie: La La Land (which is my favorite movie in the last 20 years).
Gosh, I'm about to watch your video. Let's see if your list matches mine. Titanic Ben Hur All Quiet on the Wester Front The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King Silence of the Lambs ✔️ Parasite Gone With the Wind ✔️ Lawrence of Arabia ✔️ In the Heat of the Night The Godfather
I saw "Silence Of The Lambs," the day it opened in theaters with my first BF, Rick, we knew very little about it other than it was a thriller with Jodie Foster. It was a packed movie theater, and at the end, the entire audience stayed seated all through the end credits with Hopkins walking away. We were all walking out stunned by what we all just saw. My most memorable movie going experience! I would have been angry if it had not won the Oscar for best picture! 😊
10 best winners in cronological order: “Gone with the wind” (1939) “Casablanca” (1943) “All about Eve” (1950) “On the waterfront” (1954) “West side story” (1961) “Lawrence of Arabia” (1962) “The godfather” (1972) “One flew over the cuckoo’s nest” (1975) “Schindler’s list” (1993) “American beauty” (1999)
I haven’t seen a ton of them (I’ll watch Ben Hurr and Gone with the Wind soon). But some of my favorites are Lawrence of Arabia One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest Amadeus Silence of the Lambs Casablanca Schindler’s list Return of the King The Departed Oppenheimer (I know it’s recent but i think it will age well. Easily the greatest “best picture” winner of the past 5 years) Edit: I forgot to mention Godfather and gladiator. There are others I love also but I feel I’d be skewered if I forgot
Thanks, Brian. Your comments are spot-on. Still, "Spotlight" is my number-one favorite. I have seen it about 20 times on video and in the movie theatres when it came out in late 2015.
We have a very similar top ten in a slightly different order. 1. The Godfather Part II (1974) 2. The Godfather (1972) 3. Casablanca (1943) 4. The Silence of the Lambs (1991) 5. Very close to mine with a few exceptions 10. Schindler's List 9. Casablanca 8. Rebecca 7. The Godfather 6. Platoon 5. All About EVE 4. Lawrence of Arabia 3. The French Connection 2. The Deer Hunter 1. One Flew Over The CUCKOO'S NEST Interesting to note, none this century - Crash and No Country For Old Men came close for me.
1. Casablanca 2. The Godfather 3. The Godfather 2 4. Gone With the Wind 5. The Silence of the Lambs 6. Schindler's List 7. Titanic 8. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King 9. Lawrence of Arabia 10. Unforgiven 11. On the Waterfront 12. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest 13. It Happened One Night 14. Parasite 15. Chicago 16. Forrest Gump 17. The Apartment 18. Rebecca 19. My top 10 favourites 1. The Godftaher Part 2 2. The Godfather 3. The Deer Hunter 4. Forrest Gump 5. Amadeus 6. Unforgiven 7. Schindler's List 8. Platoon 9. Rocky 10. Kramer Vs kramer

West Side Story 10. Oppenheimer Honerable Mentions: a. Parasite b. Schindlers List c. Everything, Everywhere, All at Once d. The Shape of Water e. The Silence of the Lambs
1. The Godfather 2. The Godfather 2 3. Gone With the Wind 4. Lawrence of Arabia. 5. Ben Bur 6. The Sting 7. The Silence of the lambs. 8. The Departed 9. All About Eve 10. The Sound of Music 10.
In 1941, the nominees included "Citizen Kane", "The Maltese Falcon". and "Suspicion". The winner was "How Green Was My Valley". Also, "Lawrence of Arabia" was the screen debut of Peter O'Toole, who never won an Oscar. Hitchcock was given an honorary one late in his life. And as far as people getting upset about "GWTW", grow up and stop acting like you are so morally superior.
Probably quite close, to be honest, especially when Cabaret swept many of the other categories like Actress, Supporting Actor, Art Direction and Editing. It actually only lost in two of the ten categories it was nominated, both to The Godfather (Adapted Screenplay and Picture).
Much as I like The Silence of the Lambs, I still think JFK should’ve won that year. In terms of my favourite wins, my favourite film to win is Casablanca, but my favourite overall win is probably The Best Years of Our Lives in 1947 or The Departed in 2007. For the former, because I love that the Academy were able to recognise that film for as wonderful as it is, as it is so heavy that it would’ve been easy for them to go for something lighter, like It’s A Wonderful Life or something, and for the latter, just because I love that Marty finally got his dues, a good thirty years too late. In The Heat of the Night is also a legendary win for me, in a time when many “big movies” won the award, they gave it to what is basically a smaller genre movie, that happened to make some important social commentary on race in America. Other favourite winners of mine include: Both Godfather films, Schindler’s List, Lawrence of Arabia, West Side Story, Oppenheimer, All Quiet On The Western Front, No Country For Old Men, and Chicago.
"On the Waterfront" has Eva Marie Saint .... who is STILL ALIVE on 12/24/24 and is 💯 years old now.
North By Northwest convinced me Eve Marie Saint is everything.
@@lockedonlaw. Quite possibly my favorite Hitchcock film; it’s almost Bondian.
Gone With The Wind is airing in a local theatre in a couple of months. I’m there!
Wow! So many get close: Betty White, Dame Angela Landsbury, etc... Ms Saint made it. Congratulations! To Her!
Mr Oscarman42, How about the top 10 movies that DID NOT WIN best picture Oscar! If you haven't did a post on this, LOL. Thanks
For me it’s The Lord Of The Rings: Return Of The King, the first fantasy film to win best picture, the second movie sequel to do it and with an 11 oscars clean sweep, that was the perfect win.

8. Gladiator
9. Schindler's List
10. A Beautiful Mind
I have seen all these movies, and also love Million Dollar Baby. Over the years, I feel it has become underrated.
Unforgiven would def be welcome on my list.
Million Dollar Baby was bad. It's a super standard, basically shot, made sport movie that then becomes a maudlin, boring drama. 👎
has no one here seen Amadeus?
I don’t take issue whatsoever with Gone with the Wind being on your all-time list.
It was on TCM a few weeks ago with a printed disclaimer at the beginning.'This film is a product of its time and should be viewed with consideration."
Moonlight, Chicago, Schindler's List, Amadeus, The Godfather II, Midnight cowboy, On the Waterfront, All About Eve, Casablanca, Rebecca
Please see Parasite. I personally considered it the best movie in the last 20 years. It is truly an all timer.
@ I will. My wife and I need to both be in the right headspace for subtitles which rarely happens at the same time.
I would add "Midnight Cowboy" from '69 and "The Apartment" in '60.

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King will always be my favorite. 11 nominations,11 wins. It capped the greatest trilogy of all time. 👑
Could've gone 12 for 12, but I guess the academy forgot Sean Astin was in it.
@@marqc.9904yes. I also agree with that Sean Astin should've been nominated. He carried that whole movie.
………my all time favourite is 1960’s ‘Ben-Hur’. Charlton Heston’s portrayal of the title character, was wonderful!
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
It’s hard to beat those top 3, but The Silence of the Lambs will always be my personal favorite.

"All Quiet on the Western Front" is a 💍 of 20's and 30's 😉
My top 3 favorite wins in this category ever are LAWRENCE OF ARABIA, ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO’S NEST, and CASABLANCA in that order.

Oppenheimer better than those movies?
@@shadysorkin9214it’s a great movie so I’ll accept it but I would not go that far either
Once you said, "All About Eve" in #2, I relaxed and enjoyed the rest of the video.
And then you said, "Rebecca." They are 2 of my all-time favorites. Glad to be in sync!
Schindler’s List is the most incredible film I’ll never watch again. And, yes. Fiennes should have won.
My number 1 will be always be Lord of the Rings The Return of the King
Great list! I would have added The Deerhunter as well. Your next topic could be how the films films during the 70's were all time greats.
My top 10 Best Picture Winners:
1. Schindler's List (1993)
2. Gladiator (2000)
3. Lawrence of Arabia (1962)

10. The Godfather (1972)
No Return Of The King?????? i think it's the best oscar win but good top
Also Parasite close top 2
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King is the best one, for me. The Silence Of The Lambs, Schindler's List, The Departed and Parasite are also up there.
Return of the king, the movie that never ends...
Mine would be :
The Godfather films
Lawrence of Arabia
Casablanca
Gone With The Wind
ROTK
Schindler’s List
The Apartment
Oppenheimer
The Silence of the Lambs
Maybe Birdman too

Brian: Even done an “elusive Oscar” episode on Hitchcock? Could he be the worst snub in Oscar history?
Ooh, I like that idea. I would say the closest he came was with Rebecca.
1. The Godfather

3. The Silence of the Lambs
4. The Departed
5. Schindler's List
6. Birdman
7. Argo
8. Forrest Gump
9. The Sound of Music
10. Annie Hall
Glad to see Birdman. Another movie that I feel has become underrated over time. I was obsessed with that movie.
nice to see annie hall and sound of music get some love. don't see people talk about them as much.
nobody mentioning Moonlight is hurting my soul… it’s so good!
This isn’t a DEI channel
@StonedUp1 okay..??? what’s DEI got to do with anything? Moonlight is a Best Picture winning film. this is a video about Best Picture winners. i think moonlight should be up there. what’s DEI about that? make an actual argument on the merits of the movie!
@@malikastlaurent Cuz it's a list of only ten films? I mean, literally dozens of Best Picture winners would be ranked amongst the greatest films of all time, right? And I mean dozens of them would rank amongst the "TOP top films" and Brian's list here only included:
_The Godfather, The Godfather: Part II, Casablanca, Lawrence of Arabia, All About Eve, Schindler's List, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, The Silence of the Lambs, Rebecca, Gone with the Wind._
And think about the many other Best Picture winners that also rank amongst the "TOP top films" that Brian didn't even include like _On the Waterfront_ as he said would be #11. But also:
_Unforgiven, No Country for Old Men, The Bridge on the River Kwai, Rocky, The Apartment, Annie Hall, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, Amadeus, It Happened One Night, The Deer Hunter, The French Connection_ etc. and the list goes on!
1. if we’re going by merits of the film (granted Sight and Sound is obv not perfect), but Moonlight is 60 on that list which i believe puts it in the top category of Best Picture winners
2. there are a few moment is Moonlight that i believe should be considered “pure cinema” like the scene where Ali teaches Little to swim, the shot where Chiron is staring at the mirror after the fight with kevin, and one of the greatest uses of music the scene with “Hello Stranger” playing at the restaurant. those scenes are all done incredibly well. particularly the swimming shot i feel is up there with the Ingrid Bergman “As Time Goes By” shot in terms of emotion and execution.
3. there’s a case to be made that the La La Land/Moonlight snafu did make a splash in oscar’s history just like Parasite’s win did. there’s a lot of amazing films that have won Best Picture, no doubt there’s a lot of reasonable choices people could make for a top 10. and still, i think Moonlight is a technical marvel with narrative and thematic depth and complexity while still creating an incredibly cinematic experience that deserves at minimum consideration as a top best picture winner, especially if Parasite and Everything Everywhere are considered (which i think they should be!)
that being said, there are plenty of movies out there, and people can absolutely make the case for various top 10s. although, the cinema canon has room for this film, to me. Moonlight is certainly underrated is what i’ll say. wherever is lands on a list, i think its legacy will endure.
This is just my opinion
10 - Amadeus
9- on the waterfront
8- the godfather part 2
7- the godfather
6- Casablanca
5 - west side story
4- Braveheart
3- one flew over the cuckoo's nest
2- silence of the lambs
1 - Rocky
I do wonder, how close was The Apartment to making this Top Ten?
Thank you, thank you for including GWTW on your list. It remains my all time favorite, maybe because I saw it as a girl of 12 in the 60's. Movies that "don't age well" can be appreciated when watched in historical context. And who makes the decision, anyway?
I'm black and watched GWTW many times growing up. It is indeed a cinematic achievement and I myself consider it an all time great movie.
But please don't dismiss the opinions of people offended by its depiction of black slaves in the Antabellum south. They are speaking of their very painful history and their ancestors and their perspectives are valid.

Every video has so much enthusiasm... It's appreciated. Happy holidays ⛄🎁❤.
It's impossible to narrow this down to ten. I can't argue any of your selections, even if they exclude The Apartment and The Deer Hunter and a number of other films I might consider.
The Deer Hunter is SO underrated.
Quick question: Is Godfather II the only sequel to win Best Picture following a win for the original?
Thank you for not being a contrarian. This is a solid list!
Wonderful list. So much overlap with my personal top ten. Thank you for including the greatest film ever made: Gone with the Wind.
1.The Apartment
2.The Sound of Music
3.Everything Everywhere All At Once
4.The Best Years of Our Lives
5.Chicago
6.The Silence of The Lambs

@@barbaraladouceur6305 thank you ! yes I love The Apartment .
I love The Sound Of Music and West Side Story. The masterpiece “Rebecca” by Hitchcock is also a good choice.
People don’t talk about Rebecca enough, I’m still in love with Oliver
My list:
1. Casablanca
2. The Godfather
3. The Godfather Part II
4. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
5. Schindler’s List
6. On the Waterfront
7. Gone With the Wind
8. Lawerence of Arabia
9. The Best Years of Our Lives
10. Forrest Gump
My Fair Lady from 1964 is easily my favorite. Probably the best musical ever made with one of the great Best Actor Oscar winning performances by Rex Harrison.
All About Eve has the best screenplay and it think it is Bette Davis at her best. One of my very favorite films.
Sunrise, On the Waterfront, All About Eve, Lawrence of Arabia, Patton, The Godfather, The Last Emperor, The Silence of the Lambs, Moonlight, & Parasite are my favorite Best Picture Oscar Winners.
This is an incredible video, Brian, the best Christmas gift you could give us, honestly your best list yet. Thank you, Merry Christmas. 😊
Thank you.
Great video! I didn’t know Schindler’s List was Steven Spielberg’s passion project!
These are my top 10. I always redo my full Oscar BP ranking after each Oscar ceremony; not much changes at the top or the bottom.
1. All About Eve
2. The Silence of the Lambs
3. Gone with the Wind
4. It Happened One Night
5. Moonlight
6. Lawrence of Arabia

9. The Godfather
10. Casablanca
All About Eve ❤
But it's also the very last Western other then Tombstone or Wyatt Earp had that connection to the audience.
Allow me to say that your insights about movies are fantastic, your passion for movies really shines through. I also agree with a lot that you say in your videos. Keep up the good job. 👌👌
Merry Christmas Brian
I just watched One flu for the first time last night and I loved it so much (and Casablanca for the first time last week)
A cliche number 1, but I fully agree. The godfather is an absolute classic.
Seriously, the timing. I've literally been thinking the past couple days what my 10 favorite b.p. winners are, and now this. You kinda made my day. Anyway,
1. Birdman
2. American Beauty
3. Everything Everywhere All At Once
4. No Country For Old Men
5. Oppenheimer (didn't love it as much as the rest of you, but still a very solid movie)
6. Schindler's List
7. The French Connection
8. Platoon
9. Annie Hall
10. The Silence of the Lambs
Ironically, I used to like the Godfather as much as the next guy, but it's worn a little bit thin over the years and with a few viewings.
Have you ever thought of making a 10 Best Picture Nominees that you think should've won Best Picture instead of the Winner?
My choices are:
1 The Godfather (1972)
2 Platoon (1986)
3 The Godfather Part II (1974)
4 Lawrence of Arabia (1962)
5 Schindler's List (1993)
6 No Country for Old Men (2007)
7 From Here to Eternity (1953)
8 Mutiny on the Bounty (1935)
9 Patton (1970)
10 Unforgiven (1992)
Funny Girl is in my top 20 or maybe higher. This introduced me to Barbra Streisand who I have loved since then although not politically. IT IS A FREE country and she puts her money where her mouth is and I admire her for this honesty. Now let’s continue to make movies as works of ART. Merry Christmas to all; this means I am spreading the message of joy to one and all, excluding NO ONE. Ciao 12/24/2024 from St. Louis MO💗😍❣️

I wonder how close cabaret was to beating the godfather since fosse took director
Probably quite close, to be honest, especially when Cabaret swept many of the other categories like Actress, Supporting Actor, Art Direction and Editing. It actually only lost in two of the ten categories it was nominated, both to The Godfather (Adapted Screenplay and Picture).
Cabaret issuch an amazing film. That last shot. But I suppose Godfather deserved bedt film and, yes, best director@@samuelbarber6177
