Ethan Hawke and Robin Williams worked together in "Dead Poets Society" Ethan Hawke and Philip Seymour Hoffman worked together in "Before the Devil Knows You're Dead" His feelings about both actors are incredibly thoughtful and genuine. He is not one of those actors who pretend like people that suddenly passed away meant more to him than they really did because it's the popular thing to do. Besides, he's a lucky man because, he's been surrounded by greatest actors, such as Robin Williams & River Phoenix.

I can feel his depth in the way he expresses himself and I feel so drawn to him just by the way he carries himself through life. I'm a real fan of the guy.
For us who have lived in this real world of having to act to live. And the parts we have chosen I'm glad someone has told our stories. And the depression of being drained to fit in this world and being mature about the seriousness of life. It's a constant death that keep me fighting for answers of why me Lord,of myself I'm nothing.
Ethan Hawke was absolutely right about how good Robin Williams, Philip Seymour Hoffman and river phoenix were as actors who knew how to entertain us, the audience.
The comments are funny to me: Ethan Hawke is just acting here, he's mythologizing the struggles of famous actors, etc. etc. I have many things I could say about this, but I'll stick to one. Acting may be one of the only professions that puts you in contact with how your own behaviour is constructed, modulated, protean, opportunistic, and so on. Once you're observant of how you develop a Self and how you portray that Self, you become aware that other ways of interacting with the world are not only possible but authentic, you can bear out all kinds of plausible behaviour, and even while you could inhabit contradictory selves you also truly see that no choice is neutral or without impact. Life becomes very complicated. If he is acting his grief and sense of gravity here, he is only acting it as much as anyone does, but he has better tools to do it with. That may sound like psychopathy, but it's not quite the same thing. The manipulation that actors use is different, because its goal isn't directed only at power, it's also directed at truth. I agree with him, it's not easy to live this way, and I believe that for such people there would be a "demon in the woods" that says life is meaningless, all of it merely play and subterfuge. Artists sadly don't know how to create only what is helpful for people without the byproducts that come with its creation: disorientation, hollowness, and isolation. Take care everyone.
Interesting comment but, unfortunately for you, it’s even arrogant and partly mistaken. You pretend to know that Ethan is acting here, while you know nothing about his memories with the people is talking about.
@@matteg.3587 I'm sorry that I came across so insensitive. I had to reread my comment because I had no memory of it lol. I still agree with what I said, but I would qualify it. Emotions are still real, and memories can carry indelible emotional weight. What I think I was trying to say is that feeling something and looking like you're feeling something are two different things, and in acting you only need to be able to do the second to succeed. The danger is when an actor, or anyone, loses sight of which is which and how they interact. In Ethan Hawke's case here, and the comments criticizing him for acting, I wanted to suggest that perhaps being able to convey emotion effectively is a powerful tool for handling real emotions. It's when conveying emotions is not done with intention, or done in the same way whether they are real or constructed, that behaviour and self-image can get twisted and scary. I do not believe Ethan Hawke is such a person or actor. Peace.
