I love how everybody in Hollywood seems to have a story of kindness about Robin Williams. The guy was as much a legend off screen than he was on screen. There will never be this level of genius in the industry again.

Holden Mcgroine Which makes it more sad. I mean he can be funny even when not depressed, but now every time I see him being funny I just also connect it to his depression. So I’m like dying laughing and then crying in the inside as well.

In the ‘90s I worked at a video store in Pacific Heights and Robin was an infrequent customer. In all of my interactions with him, he was always the subdued, don’t-call-attention-to-myself Robin that probably most non-San Franciscans didn’t see. He was always unfailingly polite and I greatly enjoyed being able to discuss what he was renting and why since it was usually in preparation for a part. He was a genuinely lovely person and it is still wrenching to know he is gone. 💔💔💔💔💔

What a great story. Hearing about their dynamic off camera makes it so clear why their relationship on camera seemed so authentic. I feel like there's a lot of parallels between Hawke trying to be serious while Williams was trying to get him to laugh and Todd trying not to be noticed while Mr. Keating works to break him out of his shell. Robin Williams really was a treasure.

Robin Williams wasn't just funny, that was the thing - he was warm and big-hearted as a performer... and he had such a depth of understanding about the human condition. This was what made his acting brilliant. He understood not just slapstick / quick quips but could also pull off subtle situational humour. Just watch Awakenings. In Aladdin, listen how he turns on a dime from manic to wise and world-weary. What a gift.

How is it that all of the stars of my youth just get better and better looking? Ethan Hawke has that whole rebel professorial thing going.

In the 90s, Robin lived near my brothers apartment in San Francisco.
I probably saw Robin a dozen times over a 2 year period; sometimes at the local grocer, but often at the Cheesesteak shop off Divisadero Street.
He loved that Cheesesteak shop. They have signed movie posters that are still on the walls.

*The LIKE ratio is off the charts on this one.* Good deal. I think, innately, people like to see good things happen to good people ...regardless of their level or station in life. There's hope for us yet.

I must've watched this video a thousand times. Every single time, when Ethan says "he's still my agent now" I burst into tears. Robin Williams was my favorite, and I felt I could relate to so many things he's been through.

This is a nice story. It showed that not only was Robbin Williams a good actor but he also recognized talent. That's awesome.

Some actors are made for indies and contemporary movies. I kinda like it. I think if they acted more in mainstream movies it'll spoil my perception of them as actors. Am I making sense here ?

Robin Williams was pure genius at comedy and his wild fast-paced stream of consciousness ad libs. But he was also a phenomenal dramatic actor! Such a sad ending to a remarkable man

Not really. He was never funny. His movies were sometimes funny because of great writers. His talk show appearances, stand up shows and interviews were never funny. Shouting and talking in a loud voice doesn't mean funny

    No surprise.
Sometimes the term “brilliant” is too narrowly interpreted. Robin Williams was hyper intelligent and incredibly sensitive, with a knack for reading a room no matter how populated.
