  • In this episode we take my original 37' Freeman to the boatyard to install a pair of new 425 hp Yamaha Outboards. We pull the old 350's off and over a 17 day period show the progress. We also acid wash the inside of the hull, remove the wrap, and compound and wax the entire hull. I take you for swordfishing for a few minutes too, and then it's time to break in the motors and see how the boat performs with the upgraded motors.

    Great re-do, Thanks for the work to share this with us.
    I’d suggest getting the Sharrow Propellers.

      Also add a raised baffle at the stern to decrease the sound. Add Sonix to the side that faces the engines.

    If you haven't tried it yet, put the muriatic acid away and buy Oxalic acid powder. It's typically cheaper and much nicer to use. For water staining or rust stains just mix the powder with warm water in a spray bottle, spray it on, wait 30 mins, then rinse it off. If there is any staining left either repeat or make the solution a little stronger. No need to do that nasty and dangerous brooming. I have used this on commercial boats for years and it just works. Most of the expensive water stain cleaners you buy in gel form etc are primarily oxalic acid based. Enough powder to clean the staining on the boat in the video might cost $5.

    • @ownage2214
      @ownage2214 Год назад

      Oxalic can be gritty depending on how fine the granules are so be careful with the gelcoat. Bar keeper's friend for example is designed to be pretty gritty. If all you are doing is making a solution and spraying it off, it should be fine, but careful on applying TOO much elbow grease in tougher to clean areas. I think that's where muriatic works really well because you can pretty much scrub as hard as you want since its pure liquid.

    Good looking boat. I think you need some more cup in your props though. They could stand to hold a touch more water at cruising speed. Running light, you could up the pitch a couple inches and probably see 52-53kts but I don’t think it would help anything loaded. I’d run 4 blades up a hole or two though.

      @@StanzFam it’s a shame Yamaha folded Turbo up. I think pair of Turbo OS1 4 blades in 20p (16.25” diameter) would probably be exactly what the doctor ordered for that setup. They had huge blades and good cup so they bit really well and kept torque on the prop, not in a rooster tail. They’d top out at around 50kts WOT and cruise with probably only 10% slip.
      Post a video when you get it dialed in please. Curious to see how that setup does.

    FYI, dunno if you knew this but Blue Wave, the company that makes the fish box cleaner, also makes Rust & Water Stain Remover in a spray bottle. I have used it a couple times and it works a lot better for me, is sustainable and has no impact on our planet, which is the most important (for me), and might be much better for those that don't want to use plain Muriatic Acid.

    In the future is you ever need to take any glue and wrap glue off, get tarmanator it is by far the best at removing any kind of adhesive with damaging paint

    we don't use impact guns when installing the transom screws. too easy
    to either over or under torque, damaging the transom. manual should say what they like, but usually 40ft/lbs.

    Nick, I thought you gifted the 37' Freeman to Bean for being the best Mate you've ever had, even if he couldn't harpoon Moby Dick if he was floating dead next to the boat. 🤣

    Will you re-wrap the boat? Aside from the scratchs working fish what was the condition of the wrap? (I need to repaint and am considering a wrap. Any observations you have on wrap vs paint are appreciated. Thanks and good luck )

    • @StanzFam
      @StanzFam  Год назад

      We may re wrap it eventually, just not yet. I think that wrap was almost 4 years old . A wrap is definitely an easy solution to repainting, but they can scratch and tear if you’re not careful.
