$140,000 Motor Upgrade! New twin 425 HP Yamaha Outboards Installed on 37 Freeman!
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 8 мар 2023
- In this episode we take my original 37' Freeman to the boatyard to install a pair of new 425 hp Yamaha Outboards. We pull the old 350's off and over a 17 day period show the progress. We also acid wash the inside of the hull, remove the wrap, and compound and wax the entire hull. I take you for swordfishing for a few minutes too, and then it's time to break in the motors and see how the boat performs with the upgraded motors.

I LOVE new outboards!! Number one thing required to go out on a boat: confidence!
As a marine tech myself, your gonna love the 425s. Fantastic power setup. Easy maintenance. Can't say enough good things about a yamaha.
Great to hear! Thanks
Wow, super video ! I like seeing the details on removing the wrap, repairing, repowering, and updating the boat. Excellent !
Thanks for watching !
Congrats Nick ! What a awesome upgrade!! Enjoy and as always be safe...Tight Lines Capt ! Can't wait to see her on plane !!!
Thanks for watching 👍🏻
It’s great that you’re selling your products on RUclips and to the watchers and advise your new motors great for you!!!
Trying 🙏🏻
motors aside which are awesome. Super impressive how a fresh coat of bottom paint and a nice wax/buff job took that from looking old and crusty to brand new.
Thank you very much!
Greetings Capt. NICK..thank you for sharing, motors sound sweet..life is beautiful..love n prayers for ye n family🙏
The color of that X3 is such a nice change, from always seeing plain, white boats.
Thanks 👍🏻
Awesome upgrade that boat is badass keep the videos coming Nick.
Thanks! Will do!
That’s good time on a pair of Yamahas!!
We were happy!
Love your dry dock videos!! That will be a badass boat with 850 hp
Thanks for watching!
How awesome was that!? I would’ve loved that ride! Good for you, Nick! Congratulations 🥳
@apollo5751 These are 30” shafts with integrated steering, retail pricing was $94k in fall 2021 when we ordered the motors. They are more now. Two sets of controls with new harnesses/wiring, new gauge (CL5) down stairs to support helm master 3 steering, two new helms, two new props, Install of new motors and all the rigging. removal of old motors and old rigging, bottom paint, fiberglass/gelcoat work, acrylic plates for dash, 17 days in boat yard, acid wash, wrap removal, wax, hinges, speakers, etc another $40k
Absolutely comical. You're telling a Yami Pro Staff member what things should cost! Ha.
@@Pietro-ni6ow nope, I’m fairly certain he told you what it DID cost 🤷🏼♀️
You have a great boat Nick and I'm glad that you are entertaining it. I like very much your boat type, with two separate "boats".
Thanks 👍 , I sold this one a few years ago but we still have it in our fleet and I manage it
Boat cleaned up nicely!! Lots of hard work! Best of luck with the new motors, Nick!
Thanks! We were really happy with how it turned out
Nick, you basically own my dream boat. That thing is badass! I really hope I can afford something like that one day.
This is my old boat , but it’s a great boat. My friends bought it years ago but we will have it in the fleet at the marina
Epic upgrade, full send on those sweet YAMAHAULERS, sweet smell of new equipment, for the fleet,..looking good, Island Boys.
Right on
@stanz I really enjoyed this boat upgrade! Thx 👍
Glad you like it!
Hi NIck, came across your channel by chance just a few days ago, I guess cause I enjoy watching fishing videos, I get out once in a while out here in the UAE ( gulf sea)....
Point is I think you are a really nice person. from the little I have seen, you love your friends and family and you enjoy making them all happy by sharing food, fishing and by speaking gently and kindly, which is so important. ( you do speak a little fast for me though)😊 I have to focus to soak it all in, but that's because I enjoy not only your awesome videos, but your genuine commentary aswell....
Stay safe, and god bless you and all the people around you brother...salute..!!!!
I know what you mean, fast talking. You can slow down in the settings.
Thanks for watching! I will work on slowing down when I speak. I get excited and talk fast
Anchor wizard! Love your stuff man keep it up!
Those motors sound awesome! Nick
I think so too!
Great Video I watched until the end. Thanks for bringing us along.
Thanks! Appreciate it
Nothing better than the sound of the New Yamaha Symphony.
🙌🏻
¡Felicidades! Looks great!
man the sound of those outboards are lovely
🙌🏻
Nice. Those 425’s are beast.
Dont use a razor blade! Get some goof off and a tint squeegee. It will save your gelcoat.
Boat anchor
Landing the one hooked in the Tail was a first one for me the marks on the Hull are Beauty Marks !that’s going to happen when you are Catching !
👊🏻
Nice hair cut! Nice new motors and a clean boat.
Thanks 👍
Concentrate Rustaid will take that stuff off just as quick. Used it on my boat, and use it at work to take fertilizer stains off of our lawn trucks.
Sweet dude looks awesome 👌
Thanks! We were all happy with how it turned out
Those 425’s a sweet. Boat is looking good. Congratulations on hitting 200k subs
Thanks 👍
Badass boat!
🙌🏻
nice vid good info on the 425s an seems to push the 37 quite well..well done on that mullet to nic..lol,stay safe..
Thanks 👍
Those power packs are something everyone needs to have handy. I probably use that more on calls than anything
Great to hear.
I might have to get one!
love the the new heair cut
Great video as always
Appreciate that
100 degrees , I'll take it. Beats 7 inches of snow 26 degrees up here.
Love the video. Time for a Collab in Cudjoe!
🙏GOD BLESS BOAT & FAMILY
May the new screws bring you prosperity with maximum $$$ and safety.
Sincerely,
Doc AJ
Great re-do, Thanks for the work to share this with us.
I’d suggest getting the Sharrow Propellers.
It will get you a better economy of fuel burn and it will pay off their cost of $10 k.
* Only do so if Yamaha Marine Corp. will honor the warranty..
Also add a raised baffle at the stern to decrease the sound. Add Sonix to the side that faces the engines.
It would lower the Decibel level and help with hearing issues later in life..
If your interested in my concept I can share it.
Lmk
Thanks for the info
I would like to try the sharrow props too
@@JS-sx3bl you realize these are super quite right? no where near hearing damage levels!
@@ct1762 I’d suspect you meant to spell Quiet. In any case the main issue is to get the propellers more efficient and second deal the sound of the two 450’s humming away at 5,000 rpm or more which has a great deal of overall decibel or DB displaced outside.
* It’s reasonable when a person invents a product, it seeks an attempt to solve a problem, or ‘to better’ a known issue by the use of that invention..
Thanks for sharing again 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
My pleasure 😊
@@StanzFam thanks for responding to me hope to make it there this year
Looking good!! Hope to see the invisible cat soon!!
New game!! Every time Nick says HERE or THERE do a shot. Good lord😳😳
😜
Bro wishing you all the best take care stay safe blessings
Thank you! Likewise
Great video Stanzfam! Glad you put in some extras but what an overall retrofit. The 37 looks beyond amazing. The haircut is good to.
Thanks! Appreciate it
Nice locks. ✂
Nice boat
Wait, haircut?! You can’t do that midway through! Lol
Right! It fits with what the boat looked like before the wrap got removed. Much better in both cases lol
Man i had the same thought.
much better too 😂
A while back I was cracking on Stan saying that mullet was cool and all flapping in the hurricane winds but he needs to make up with his barber.🤣🤣🤣👍
Haha I was just about to comment…. Mullet one minute, gone the next. Maybe the wife put her foot down 😂
Hi Nick. Great video
Glad you enjoyed it
I had my twin engines stolen and I’m in the process of getting new ones and your video was helpful and I know what to expect. Thank you!
Sorry to hear that. Hope insurance covered it. Good luck with the new engines
@@StanzFam thank you brother. Yes I have insurance. Can’t wait to get back boating. I actually watching the video you showing your 2024 42’. That’s an AMAZING boat. Congratulations and wish you all the best.
Nick!!!! You got a haircut!!!! Enjoy your new ride!!
Yes! Thank you! My old boat but we still have it in the fleet with the current owners
Man it feels like yesterday when you got that boat.
You’re telling me! 7 years went quick
Look into the Sharrow props. They are more fuel efficient and quieter. The thyroidal design is the way to go.
Hoping to try them one day
Fantastic and beautiful
Thanks for watching : )
I had a mercury 250 have 471 b4 it blew up. And mercury 150 blew up at 500 hours. I then bought a 115 yamaha and 150 yamaha and they are still running with no problem at all.. no more mercs for me
Yamaha’s are definitely the most reliable. But I would say all the engine brands have really come a long way the past decade and they’re all pretty good nowadays. However I have no plans ever switching from Yamahas
Cool video
Thanks for watching
You're going to love the 425s. The power is great but the lower unit oil change at the dock is the real game changer! The 3 piece cowling is a pain though.
Thanks! That was definitely a selling point for the gear lube
I really dislike the sound of the 425s when above 70% throttle. They seem way too loud compared to Mercs or lower power Yamahas, and that is not just on Nick's boat but on every boat I've seen them on.
@@TheVonMatrices they addressed that on the new updated 450
@@jonathanmack8487 I didn't know that. I'll have to listen to one.
@@jonathanmack8487 Was out on a boat with the new 450's no more than a month ago, still very noisy. The Merc 450R is a much nicer engine to listen to, and the V12's are in a different league from a comfort standpoint.
awesome repower, those girls on the back at speed sound sweet
Thanks! We think so too 👍🏻
Awesome
👍🏻
Hi Nick, I'm not a knowledgeable boat owner, but have seen some prop engineering information about Sharrow props. If you decide to look at these, I'd love to hear what you think. Thanks for the video. Great stuff!
They look really interesting for sure. Haven’t heard any feed back on the freemans with them yet, but we will definitely keep an eye out for them
@@StanzFam Not on a freeman, but on some other cats. Here's a link to a performance report of a twin vee 36' with twin 300's and sharrows.
www.sharrowmarine.com/performance-reports/2022/12/30/36-twin-vee-with-twin-yamaha-300-hp
@@toivomyllyla8776 I guess there has been some testing on the Freemans with them but not what they hoped for. Sounds like they are adjusting the props and hopefully get them dialed in for the Freemans. Would love to have them if we could save some fuel!
When the heat goes up the hair comes off 🤣🤣🤣great video bro
Haha! You got that right .
Thanks
thx for using knots
🤷🏻♂️
I remember commenting about about you going to the 425s on the video when you put those 350s on it
🙌🏻
SWEEEEET!!!! Nice job brother.... Those engines are amazing!!! 💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯♥️👍
👊🏻👊🏻
If you haven't tried it yet, put the muriatic acid away and buy Oxalic acid powder. It's typically cheaper and much nicer to use. For water staining or rust stains just mix the powder with warm water in a spray bottle, spray it on, wait 30 mins, then rinse it off. If there is any staining left either repeat or make the solution a little stronger. No need to do that nasty and dangerous brooming. I have used this on commercial boats for years and it just works. Most of the expensive water stain cleaners you buy in gel form etc are primarily oxalic acid based. Enough powder to clean the staining on the boat in the video might cost $5.
Oxalic can be gritty depending on how fine the granules are so be careful with the gelcoat. Bar keeper's friend for example is designed to be pretty gritty. If all you are doing is making a solution and spraying it off, it should be fine, but careful on applying TOO much elbow grease in tougher to clean areas. I think that's where muriatic works really well because you can pretty much scrub as hard as you want since its pure liquid.
What ratio of acid:water do you use with Oxalic acid powder?
Noice!!!
Earned a new Sub 🤘🏽

Haircut, shave & 2 new 425's. What a day.
Hahaha!
멋지네요
very nice video
Check out the Flushmaster for those new 425’s
Concentrate odoban is the best for fish hauling trucks and trailers, use that on the boat
4400 hrs on those 350s dang that's alot of flywheels!!!!!!
Every 700-800 we had to change them. (80 hours in the certain rpm range)
And yeah after that punishment in the shop all the time and not fishing I wanna buy another set? No way are you guys crazy what happened to common sense thinking support your own kind
freaking awesome.
Good looking boat. I think you need some more cup in your props though. They could stand to hold a touch more water at cruising speed. Running light, you could up the pitch a couple inches and probably see 52-53kts but I don’t think it would help anything loaded. I’d run 4 blades up a hole or two though.
We are hoping to get the EC series soon. (Extra cup). We just put on a pair of 21’s and got the Cruise up a few knots. Waiting on more props to try though.
@@StanzFam it’s a shame Yamaha folded Turbo up. I think pair of Turbo OS1 4 blades in 20p (16.25” diameter) would probably be exactly what the doctor ordered for that setup. They had huge blades and good cup so they bit really well and kept torque on the prop, not in a rooster tail. They’d top out at around 50kts WOT and cruise with probably only 10% slip.
Post a video when you get it dialed in please. Curious to see how that setup does.
Buddy's better be get free fishing trips for all that help
What was the weight jump from old to new motors? Is that a hull extension/splashwell or a bolt on extension?
Interesting to see all the work involved and glad the mullet is gone (your old haircut not bait)👍🏼
Glad you enjoyed it
Wow
Damn those bolts look small for those monsters😂
Great motors, great speed , nice boat. !!!
Thanks 👍
FYI, dunno if you knew this but Blue Wave, the company that makes the fish box cleaner, also makes Rust & Water Stain Remover in a spray bottle. I have used it a couple times and it works a lot better for me, is sustainable and has no impact on our planet, which is the most important (for me), and might be much better for those that don't want to use plain Muriatic Acid.
Yep, love their rust remover.
I'll like to fish with you guys.
In the future is you ever need to take any glue and wrap glue off, get tarmanator it is by far the best at removing any kind of adhesive with damaging paint
Will keep that in mind. Never heard of it before. Thanks!
Nice haircut Sara must be so happy 🤣
Ha! I think so : )
Can't go wrong with dependability
we don't use impact guns when installing the transom screws. too easy
to either over or under torque, damaging the transom. manual should say what they like, but usually 40ft/lbs.
Good to know , thanks
Dang I never thought a baby swordfish would be so cute lol
Still good eating though😋
(If they’re legal size)
🙂
3m eraser wheel for a drill will take all those small peices of wrap off with ease. Try that next time
Dang nick can’t believe you cut that mullet lol
🥲
pressure washer on wrap helps a little bit
Been waiting 3 years for my Yamaha 425 for a repower
Hopefully soon 🙌🏻
Nick, I thought you gifted the 37' Freeman to Bean for being the best Mate you've ever had, even if he couldn't harpoon Moby Dick if he was floating dead next to the boat. 🤣
Hahaha
Stan was looking like Les Claypool for a while there.🤣🤣
Go Sharrow Props
Awesome video Nick! What is the best fishing identification and regulations app for iPhone??
Fish rules seems to be popular
Those scratches would drive me crazy however it's the livelihood
For sure
So those new motors are Jet motors and do not have propellors...!!!???? That was another nice job and service...!!!!!
Thanks for watching
They have props, I just wasn’t there in the boat yard when they installed the lower units on the motors, the boat was already in the water before I could film them
I detail boats hull cleaner AINT no joke I use hull cleaner for makos only.
You are a definitely a Mullet Kid of Guy... LMFAO 😂😂
Will you re-wrap the boat? Aside from the scratchs working fish what was the condition of the wrap? (I need to repaint and am considering a wrap. Any observations you have on wrap vs paint are appreciated. Thanks and good luck )
We may re wrap it eventually, just not yet. I think that wrap was almost 4 years old . A wrap is definitely an easy solution to repainting, but they can scratch and tear if you’re not careful.
