  • My favourite D tap dummy battery solution for the Panasonic GH6 and S5 range of cameras is the newly designed Kondor Blue BLK22. There are two versions of this cable and many retailers still show the old photo for the product, so double check you are getting the right one.

    At 0:34 I actually meant the DCC12 dummy battery is the equivalent for the BLF19-E if anyone actually cared 🙂

    I have the original dummy cable and use a Core SWX Link as my power supply, it's been great but after seeing this I'm taking a trip to B&H tomorrow.

    Nice one. They added the connector. I've got the original one. There is also an official Panasonic one now.

      Yeah it's a nice improvement for sure. I've not seen that, do you have a link to it? I have the official DCC17 dummy battery and the official AC10 adapter. It's a shame the official one doesn't have a locking connector, I find that a bit of an oversight.

    I have been using the FX Lion Nano Ones on all my rigs for about a year now and have had no issues so far! Love the new cable but I just wish their company was called Kondor Red because the blue would ruin the aesthetics of all my gear which is predominantly black and red!😂

    • @stevelitton
      @stevelitton  Год назад

      Oh yeah, I did look at the FX Lion Nano, it was between that and the SmallRig V99 for me. Ha yeah, it's quite a bold colour choice and you have no choice for a plain version. Good to hear the FX Lion is a solid option, I will bear that in mind for the future.

    A year on from this video and it seems there are still very few options and alternatives to this dummy battery for the S5iix. Have you come across any other alternatives more readily availbale in the UK at all?

    • @stevelitton
      @stevelitton  3 месяца назад +1

      Yes, its a little disappointing how few options are out there. I managed to get one of my Kondor Blue cables from Wex and it came in a few days because luckily it was in stock. The second one I got from CVP which wasn't in stock and that took weeks to arrive. Sometimes you can pick them up on Amazon.

    Hi Just came across your video, I own a GH6 , and im gonna start using the V mount battery, what are the pro & cons on using a regular battery charged by the v mount instead of a Dummy Battery D Tap on the v mount ?

    • @stevelitton
      @stevelitton  5 месяцев назад

      There is nothing wrong with doing that, it will work fine. But if you are going to buy a V Mount battery you are best to utilise all the power connections. Using a D Tap or jack connection frees up your USB-C port for charging other devices. In the case of the Lumix cameras it frees up the USB port on the camera for SSD recording. If I am going to charge the camera over USB then I tend to just use a power bank as they aren't as cumbersome as V Mount batteries and you can get away without rigging them.

    If understand correct the BLF19 batteries have the DCC12 for name as dummy batteries, right?
    Could I get a DCC17 for my gh5 just in case I might upgrade? Would it work safely?
    Right now in europe I don't see any Kondor Blue batteries for panasonic.
    I'm kinda afraid of getting one of those random off brands that occasionally have a review or 2 that say they get audio noise when they use them.

    Does this cable works with V99? I seen that the DTap fronV99 its on 14v. And the battery needs 12V.

    The output voltage of the D-TAP is 14.8V. Doesn't it destroy the camera without a connected voltage regulator?

      @stevelitton  Год назад +1

    Hi - as the saga of the Power Junkie 2 continues to roll on - (I've just been contacted to say they aren't able to source the DMCBLK22 dummy batteries for the GH6, so are offereing refunds or alternatives for those that have ordered.) These Kondor cables seem really well put together, but finding one with a 2.1 barrel that'll hopefully work with the PJ2 is like finding snow in a desert. Have you come across any other reliable/viable alternatives that might be a good alternative, that dont require you to leave the battery door open? TIA

    • @stevelitton
      @stevelitton  Год назад

      Ah, what a pain, I really wanted to grab one of those official DLK22 dummy batteries. The Kondor cable won't work unfortunately, the only one I could find that worked was this dummy battery www.ebay.co.uk/itm/165809806886 You can close the battery door but it certainly isn't as well built as the Kondor Cable. I haven't had any issues with it so far though.
      I did find it really odd that the BLK22 wasn't in the original spec for the V2 and then I pushed them on it saying you are missing a huge market not offering that cable and then it appeared as if it had been an oversight. Hopefully, it comes soon.

      @@stevelitton thanks for your wisdom (again) yeah it's a real shame, and has put a small spanner in the works, really wasn't expecting it to be an issue. I'll pick up the cable you suggested when the mk2 shows up and hope something more substantial shows up from another supplier somewhere down the line!
      Thanks again

    • @stevelitton

      No problem at all. Yeah it's a bit of a pain but they would be foolish not to cater for the newer Panasonic cameras. It's likely just a manufacturing snag that will be resolved in due course. Everything right now seems to be slow going in terms of manufacture and export of accessories, I have waited months for some of mine.
