Thanks! Easy but useful as I crashed after 2 days (first drone ever) of flying and put the replacement propellers on not being about the stripes. I was worried that there was permanent damage as it looked like it had a wounded leg flying in circles. After checking the propellers, I did indeed put the wrong one on!! You a life saver!! Thanks! Got yourself a new subscriber!
Rick. I absolutely luv how in-depth you go to explain the intricate in's & Out's of everything. It really is very much appreciated. Thanks for putting this video tutorial together. Excellence as per usual. Kind regards from Manchester Uk.
I got a few nicks and dings on my propellers after a couple of accidents, but the propellers didn't crack. So I took a couple of sanding papers and gently sanded the edges so to take out the rough edges and make them smooth. It is not like the brand new condition, but the propellers look much smoother now.
Great explanation on replacing props for beginners. Didn’t know about the locktite. Saved me from making some critical errors. Much better info than the DJI tutorial videos. Great channel. Thank you!
Hello! I’ve watched several videos on changing propellers and yours is the first one to go into great detail on the specifics. I had repairs made and the recommendation was to remove all propellers, which I did. When it was returned, it was returned with no propellers and of course, I didn’t know which ones went where so Thank You for clarifying!!!

Another winner, Rick! Just an added tip being that the Mavic Mini is so small to see in the air. I ordered a small strobe light that I am mounting on the back battery cover that will make it easier to find it in the air. I am going to register it anyway as I know it will go over the 249 gm weight with the strobe light on. Mine comes tomorrow per FedEx so plan to give it a workout this coming week. So many great RUclips videos on the Mavic Mini that help to make it a great little bird to consider, even for us 107 and advanced flyers.
Great video. What is the damage threshold for replacing propellers? Understand the need to replace broken ones. What about props with small nicks from landing and hitting debris?
When working on something like this go to a department store and get a white hand towel. Don't get one of those big fluffy ones, get one with a small mat. When I am working on a laptop computer that is the first thing I put the laptop on. These tiny screws bounce. If they hit the hand towel that will stop the bounce in their tracks. The same goes with changing out the props of the Mavic Mini. I keep a small pill bottle to keep small things in such as a micro screw driver and screws and even a tube of lock-tite. Good video Rick.....

Thank you Rick. If it is Loctite, it needs 30 min. to dry. And you can by Loctite blue in a stick. So you can use old screws after cleaning the old Loctite.
I have a warning about any liquid (loctite or other brands) that is used for keep screws in their place: before replacing the screw let dry the loctite on the screw otherwise the very little screw can loose its head when unscrewing them (I think that adding directly the screw with the liquid will fix with too many strenght the screw). Just my two cents😁
Great teaching video. You mentioned accidentally nicking the motor windings digging out a wayward screw. I crashed the other day and had dirt in the windings! What’s your engineering analysis on the aluminum motor covers? Extra heat? Other issues? Thanks!

Rick, if standing on top of a hill and set the Mavic Mini to fly at 200 feet, what happens when you fly over the lower ground? Does the aircraft follow the contours of the ground and so stay at 200, or does it then actually fly higher than 200? Brilliant reviews and info. Thank you.
Elevation is based on where you took off, and unless directed otherwise, it will try to maintain whatever level it's at. It does not change due to terrain. Keep that in mind for overall above ground level numbers, return to home height, etc.
I have a bottle of blue loctite it says it takes 24 hrs to bond. does that mean you should not change props in the field and continue flying ? should wait 24 hrs?
Thanks very much Rick! Very useful advice for me, a noob ;-) I finally took my Mavic Mini out for its first flight yesterday since the weather here in Minnesota was finally conducive for it. Other than a few idiosyncrasies that I still haven't figured out with the DJI Fly app, my first flight was successful and I managed to take a few photos of me and my friends during the short flight. I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S9 and one problem I noticed straight away was that when I hit the "fly" on the left of the screen to take off, my phone interpreted that as a request to return to my phone's home screen. After several tries I finally got it to work. Same thing happened when I tried RTH. I ended up manually landing the mini. Hopefully I'll get the hang of it with more flights (coming up soon as I'm hooked).
Sounds like the on-screen 'buttons' are interfering? For RTH, you can use the button on the controller obviously. For takeoff, you can hold both sticks down and out or down and in to start up the props. Then take off manually. A bigger issue might be if it stops you from cancelling a RTH or cancelling an auto-landing. Definitely something good to think about/test ahead of time.
Nope, they are using "blue" loctite and it's important that you not use ones you've removed from the drone. You do have the option of picking up a tube of that blue loctite from Home Depot to reapply if you want to save the screws but the replacement props come with new ones and that's why I suggest discarding them. Thanks for the post and I hope you'll sub the channel. Rick
Thanks for stopping by and I wish I could have been there. I had a business trip to Singapore that overlapped that I couldn't move but was gutted that I couldn't make the event. I'll be there next year for sure!
I have just seen on PhillyDroneLife video that you have a full yaw and gimbal control during the RTH. That would mean that you can basically simulate the course lock of the more expensive drones by carefully selecting the home point, which is very cool. Could you perhaps make a video testing this as I have not yet seen it used for this purpose.
So I bought them Mavic Mini, and have been flying around a few days. It is amazing! The question I have is now that I have this and it’s my first round I’m thinking of returning it back to Best Buy to get the Mavic pro platinum which is on sale. What are your thoughts on buying something that is two years old versus this new drone? From what I can tell the pro platinum has many more features to offer.

Thanks for this helpful video but I’m still confused as to why there are 6 screws with 4 propellers? Just had to replace my two propellers and wound up with 2 extra screws with the 2 pairs.
Hey Rick . . . Quick question. Do you replace your propeller every time you get a nick? I’ve had my mini for a few weeks now and occasionally I will miss the landing pad and chop up some grass. Today I did a visual inspection after flying and noticed a really tiny nick.

I attempted to replace mine today....One propeller is too tight now and doesn't flop around. If I unscrew and rescrew than I proably need to use another screw right? Followed all these instructions and it is just really frustrating!
My mavic minie , its always turn right. Which props that i have to replace ? Only both right motors ? Or only damaged prop ? how did i know my prop is damaged, because my drone hit the trees branch yesterday
Hello! Noob question here... is it advisable to replace perfectly fine props after a number of flight hours? Also do they have an expiration date? Cheers
Thanks for the post and I tend to replace my props every 3 months in the summer to avoid any issues when flying. I know that's probably conservative but a lot of the fatigue and wear is hard to see and I don't want to have issues that might bring the drone down sooner than expected :) Thanks for the post and stop back soon. Hello Rick, Thanks for this great information again!👍🙏Today I got my flight more combo and I hope to fly the Mini for the first time at the end of the week when the weather is better. I have one question about the case that came with the combo. With the sticks in the controller it does not fit in the box completely, so you have to remove the sticks everytime at the end of flying? Do you have tips for me how to fit it in the case supplied with the combo or do I have to modify the case. I do prefer not to do so. I hope you can give me some tips and tricks about storing the controller in this or another case! Also the blades moving freely in the case during transportation is not ideal.
The screws on the props all turns clockwise to tighten? You mention something about counter clockwise props, not the direction of tightening the screws?
Thanks for the post and the screws are just like regular screws that tighten in a clockwise rotation. I was referring to the props and you'll find both CW and CWW props in the kit and it's important to match them up. Rick
Hi. I had 3 small flights which went OK on the most recent fw but my last flight I got motor speed error and on rth I was only getting 0.3 meters per second. Do u think I should re flash the fw or change the back left props
Len, yes the friction from the screw working it's way into the motor as well as the compression generates a little heat that activates the Loctite and it sets to add stability to the fitting. Once you back the old screw out you break that bond and it can't be reactivated. Always use one of the new screws and you'll be fine. Thanks for the post and be sure to sub the channel so you don't miss anything. Rick
@@Dronevalley Can't you just clean off the old loctite from the old screws and add more on? You can get blue loctite at any hardware store. Throwing away the screw after 1 use seems like a waste.
I agree that you can clean it off and add new Loctite but since each new propeller kit comes with 6 screws (2 extra) you'll never need to keep the old ones since you'll always have more than you'll need to change the props. I know it seems like a waste but you have to remember that there is a stress involved with installing and removing the screws and I don't like to take chances with a single point of failure like this. Thanks for the post and I hope you'll stop nack soon. Rick
So I just wrapped my Mini and took off the screws and propellers to do it. I noticed it shook a little when putting the same ones back. My MAVIC Mini has only been flown a Hand full of times. I need to put new screws? What about the propellers? Or just do the screws. I wrapped my Mini with “Wrapped Grade” and that’s why I took them off.
I would make sure that you have the screws in tight so there's no wiggle in the props. The reason I recommend discarding the older props and screws is that the props are a matched pair and the screws have Loctite on them that holds them in the shaft and can only be sued once. If you remove them, the glue bond is broken and they might work themselves out of the shaft while flying. The only other thing I can think of is that the weight of the wrap is somehow off balance and causing the wobble. I hope that helps and thanks for the post. Rick
There are marks on the drone arms that indicate which arms the blades with the extra line go on. The blades with the extra line on them go on the arms that are marked.
Brian, thanks for the post and I did mention this in the clip as another way of keeping the props on the right motors. I'll have a few more Mavic Mini clips posting this week so be sure to stay tuned. Rick
@@brianshorey No worries, I'm glad that you're watching. I'll have a few more clips up this week and flew through 3 batteries today with the Mavic Mini. What do you think of DJI making an app so other people can see your flight and location ? My self if I am forced to use this version of DJI's app I will sell all my DJI drones and go elsewhere , But if they make it just for law enforcement and airport towers I'm ok with that , what are your thoughts.
Hey RUclipsrs I have a problem. When I take some snapshot or video pictures with my DJI Mavic - 2 zoom I will go into the DJI Go-4 App and view them. I can download a copy to my iPad Mini-4 OK. When I bring the drone and hook it up to my computer and access my SD card it says 'card error you need to format the SD card". The last time when I finished flying and removing my pictures I went ahead and formatted the SD card for the next flight. When I fly again and take pictures I will plug the Mavic 2 Zoom back in my computer and I get an error saying the same thing 'card error you need to format the SD card". At that time I purchased a new Sandisk SD card the a 3 in the U, meaning it is a very fast SD card. Has anyone had this problem?
@@ng6490 The magnet is to help recover anything I might have lost.. even other tools. The props screws on the Mavic Mini are ferrous metal. I also fly RC. Just another tool in the toolbox. LOL
Thanks for the post and I'm glad that the clip helped. LocTite is an amazing product that keeps a lot of fasteners tight that would normally work loose over time. Thanks a lot, Is it bad or good to try to tighten the screws after some flights, or when it comes new from the store? Or do I break te lock material at that moment? Another tip, please take more rest in explaining, your speed in talking is too high for me, so I cannot get it all. I miss at least 5 %, and that can be a lot.... Greetings from the Netherlands.
Herman, thanks for the post and I'll try and slow down. Don't tighten the screws once they are installed, you'll break the seal on the Loctite. Replace the props when needed and then leave the screws as they are and you'll be fine. Stop back soon for more clips, Rick
What can I do when the props are hitting/ damaging themselves while flying? Because in Sport Mode they are doing a Noise such as they would hit themselves.. Anyone had the same problem and may a solution?

Id like to know how to balance blades , what if i buy air screws for my mini , they come all mixed up , how do i balance those ? Can someone point me to that video ? or is this just to get you to waist good blades and buy more ? Ive never had an issues with swaping just one blade or third party blades , maybe im lucky ? maybe its not true ? Untill i see someone balancing blades im going to chalk this down as a marketing thing to sell more blades ...i have a hard time believing they balance each set but i do believe they wieght every blade , that would make sense ...i tryed weighing my take off blades and had a hard time getting consistent numbers so this is why i call BS , now maybe my equipment isnt high end enough ( china brand ) but i did try to confirm this so im not just a trol here ...all im saying is if someone can confirm this , id love to check this out ...drone busters where are you ????
Thanks for the post but you're making this too complicated. The props for these newer drones are inexpensive and it's just a better idea to swap them in sets instead of trying to save a few dollars by swapping them individually. There are many reasons for, this but the biggest is that both blades on each motor are spinning so quickly that they share any "trauma" that motor experiences. I've never had a nick in one prop on a motor from a tree branch show up without damaging the other. Also, all the props get dirty the minute you put the drone up. There is a lot of debris floating in the air (dust, dirt, pollen and moisture) and all of it lands on the props and throws the balance off. DJI compensates for this by using newer Sine style ASC's that have finer control over how the motors drive these props. They are so good that you can actually snip the end off of one of the props and the drone can still fly. So all of this being equal - no need to balance the props but when you need to swap them, swap the pair with new screws and get back up in the air. No BS, just simple engineering.
NO ONE TOLD ME the Blades are different! I figured this out for my self, but it took a while! Who can read the little manual that is over the age of 40? I almost sent this back for repairs after a 50' crash that the mini hit a cliff 50 times before hitting the ground. BTW you talk too much, can't sub, but I'll be back
Yep, the printing is small in the manual and impossible to read on the pamphlet that comes with the props. Don't feel bad, I made the same mistake years back with a quad and spent almost an hour trying to figure out why my new quad was doing belly flops in the back yard. Now that you know, you'll never make the mistake again. Thanks for the post and I hope you'll sub the channel. Rick
I absolutely HATE changing the props on this Mavic Mini. One screw will not go down flush! This puts the fear of God in me. My Mavic Air is easy breezy.
I agree that it's a little more work but they did that to eliminate a few ounces that the quick release would have added. One other point, the screws don't actually screw in flush and will bottom-out with a little play at the top. This is to allow the props to swing freely in flight. If you really feel that one of the screws is higher than the others, I'd remove it and use another one of the spares that come with the kit. Also, remember that the Loctite is down there to help keep the screw in place so I'm sure you'll be OK either way. Thanks for the post and stop back soon for more clips I'll be posting. Rick
Thanks for posting but here's the interesting part, because its so light it won't sustain too much damage if it falls from a height. The physics is less dangerous for lighter objects like this since the force exerted on the frame is dependent on the weight. In a lot of ways, it's actually more durable in a crash than a heavier drone like the Mavic 2.
Dude. I can't tell you how much time you just saved me. Wish I had found this video before I messed with the props!

I attempted to replace mine today....One propeller is too tight now and doesn't flop around. If I unscrew and rescrew than I proably need to use another screw right? Followed all these instructions and it is just really frustrating!
Hi I have an order for a magic mini dji if and when I get it is it possible to change the Len slightly? Thanks Rick
Would you recommend the leg extensions for the mini to protect the gimble during landings?
Just fly it from your hands and land it on your hands
Biker Saif true but it’s not always possible so rather have a safeguard.
Is it okay to only replace the propeller of only one of the arms??
Thank you Rick. This was very helpful. I crashed my drone today and crack 2 of the props.
My mavic minie , its always turn right.
Which props that i have to replace ? Only both right motors ? Or only damaged prop ?
how did i know my prop is damaged, because my drone hit the trees branch yesterday
Thanks! Good info!
my drone propeller is not rotating after replacing please help me?😥
Rick
great stuff as allways rick.
Also the blades moving freely in the case during transportation is not ideal.
you hace to take off the sticks before close it, it will be more safe, good fly!
When will be the best time to change the prop? My props has scratch on it but my mini can still fly smooth
can you use a magnetic screwdriver?
The screw driver that came in the fly more combo is magnetic.
Rick
Thanks Rick, just verifying..
@@djpotts2554No worries!
Hi. I had 3 small flights which went OK on the most recent fw but my last flight I got motor speed error and on rth I was only getting 0.3 meters per second. Do u think I should re flash the fw or change the back left props
after replacing some props, I noticed the horizon is no longer straight. Are these two things related?
So just to clarify- the new screws have liquid blue loctite on them , and it sets solid only after being screwed on tight to the motor?
Rick
@@Dronevalley thanks for the explanation
Good stuff.
I'm looking at the fine lettering on the spare props. One pair has has "F2" on them but none on the quad have "F2". Does this matter?
Rick
Yes, Rick, I agree with you. Thanks you are a huge help to the industry. Thanks
what are the numbers on the props?
There are marks on the drone arms that indicate which arms the blades with the extra line go on. The blades with the extra line on them go on the arms that are marked.
Brian, thanks for the post and I did mention this in the clip as another way of keeping the props on the right motors. I'll have a few more Mavic Mini clips posting this week so be sure to stay tuned. Rick
@@Dronevalley Arghh! My apologies, somehow I missed it. Love your videos, as a new Mini owner I'm learning a lot.
@@brianshorey No worries, I'm glad that you're watching. I'll have a few more clips up this week and flew through 3 batteries today with the Mavic Mini. I will also be reviewing a new Battery Adapter for the Mini this week that allows you to charge a cell through a standard USB cable. Stay tuned for that! Thanks again, Rick
because of this i will subscribed hehe
I recieved a unit whit one screw not screwed in properly so i screwed iy in my self. Is this the right way?
Sure, it you found one of the screws loose, tightening it up will activate the Lock-Tite and you'll be fine. Thanks for the post! Rick
Has anyone had this problem?
good vid.
When working in the field, I always bring a magnet.
what's the magnet for? These screws seem to be made of plastic...
@@ng6490 The magnet is to help recover anything I might have lost.. even other tools. The props screws on the Mavic Mini are ferrous metal. I also fly RC. Just another tool in the toolbox. LOL
Hello Rick, love the videos! Where are you based out of? You have some beautiful land to fly on?
Nice ... Rick
Now I understand why there’s lock tight. Thank you
Thanks for the post and I'm glad that the clip helped. LocTite is an amazing product that keeps a lot of fasteners tight that would normally work loose over time. There are a variety of different bonding strengths and you can tell them apart by their color. Stay tuned for more content this week. Rick
@@Dronevalley I use LocTite for my spark plugs in my vehicle, didn't realize they were on the screws. Now I have to throw my screws out as I don't know which are used and which aren't in the pile of extras. Oh well, better to be safe than sorry.
@@tbsdrummer87 You could always grab a tube of Blue Loctite off of Amazon and save those older screws with a little dab on each one.
so my mavic mini came with propellers installed in the wrong places. i have a double line propeller where these is no marking on the arm. wtf?
Damaged props already Rick?! 😯😯😉👍👍👍👍😂
Yep, got tangled in some weeds and nicked a prop. I'm having too much fun with this little guy.
@@Dronevalley happens to the best of us. If you don't wreck it in your own yard, you aren't practicing enough👍😃
What can I do when the props are hitting/ damaging themselves while flying?
Because in Sport Mode they are doing a Noise such as they would hit themselves..
Anyone had the same problem and may a solution?
Dang it! Ya beat me! 🤪
I've actually hacked into your Amazon Echo and heard you talking about it, so I rushed out the clip today. Thanks for the post and keep up the great work. You're channel is on fire and you deserve it!
@@Dronevalley LOL! Thanks Rick. People still love them some drones!
you haven't said anything about the numbyon the propellers
Until you explained it, I WOULD have replaced just one prop instead of the pair and I WOULD have reused the screws. Very good info here!
Why do they give you six screws instead of four?
Props are balanced like on actual aircraft props or turbine fan blades did not know that.
Guessing the two extra screws are just spares?
This is me. I crashed today. Yes the prop needs pretty strong tightening.. until its firmly on.
Unfortunately I can see how users doing this incorrectly will cause this drone to fall out of the sky. Yikes !
Rick
Insanely good shots! Take a look at my Drone videos. Maybe you have a few tips and tricks for me. 😊
Did you say "Chuck 'em" ?
It's too bad the mavic mini is so delicate, if you crash it, the least of your worries will be the propellers.
