Got a Zeus. It's quiet and offers the dynamics that I was expecting. "Mayer and Clapton in a box", as they say. Good clean boost and even better drive. At the price I paid (£52) I can't find anything to not like. I pre-ordered their Rat (Magus Pro) based on my experience and hope to have it in August. Great value and great quality from T.C. Electronic. I hope they do an entire line of these classic circuits. BB, Guv'nor, Shredmaster etc...
You guys should do a podcast and just talk about whatever and joke around. I would listen even one a week if you guys are busy or don't make a schedule just throw one up whenever :)
I think that modes on Fender may mean: 1) Mute -> Only 1 distortion is on, the second is mute 2) Series -> A is plugged into B 3) Bypass -> A and B work in parallel and when for example A is off it is bypassed instead of being muted resulting in clean sound being mixed with distorion B. So Mute is for using only 1 distortion at the same time without mixing cleans to it. I think it's the only way it can make sense.
Review from mixdownmag.au: "When Mute is selected, Distortion A will become the main sound and layer Distortion B on the top, functioning more as a boost, rather than two separate sounds. This increased routing flexibility means that some care must be taken with general gain staging and signal flow (some might avoid having channel B at a lower setting than channel A in the above example to avoid risking any drop in RMS volume), but like anything that dips a toe in the headier parts of audio/signal theory, a few fundamentals definitely go a long way."
So you can blend clean signal into your distortion? That's really cool- I've had a couple drives that do that, and they sound amazing. Remember the old Sparkle Drive? Or the JHS Moonshine? But you're saying you can't just turn the drive all the way down on one of the channels, you need to turn one off to mix a true clean signal in? Hmm- sounds cool, a bit complex but once you know how it works, not really. I hear Klons have a double potentiometer on them so that as you turn up the drive, you're also turning down the clean signal. So, it's really like having to blended channels together- one clean, one dirty- and one fades as you turn up the other. Idk but I'm guessing this is part of why it sounds so pleasing to most ppl. They were smart though to simplify it by combining the two potentiometers into one and making them inverse. That way ppl don't have a bunch of switches and different knobs to understand.
Blackmore originally used a Hornby Skewes treble boost with a vox ac30 or Marshall until 1973. From 1974 to 1993 Blackmore used a modded AIWA tape recorder as a echo and boost into a modded 278w Marshall Major. From 1994 to present he now uses various ENGL amps.
I bought the Tumnus after you guys' Klon shootout. Good pedal but there's always that feeling that if I just buy "this" pedal then maybe I'll uncover the Holy Grail of tone. Doesn't really work like that though but I fall for it every time. One of my tone icons was Paul Kossoff and I bet he just plugged straight into his Marshall. So, now I have far too many drives: TS type, Klon type, Plexi type, ODr 1 "natural (organic???)" type, distortion, Fuzz face type, Big muff type, dirt boost, clean boost, treble boost. Maybe I should have bought a really good amp instead of a good "pedal platform" and got rid of the board altogether. Still, it's all been good fun and a breath of fresh air during lockdown.
Call me shallow, but for me, messing around with the kit and it's infinite variations is just as important as actually playing. I learned a long time ago that "tone is in the fingers" (not my fingers, sadly) but still strive for that one more gadget which will make me sound like.. [insert the names of dozen guitar gods here].
Really like the Stone Deaf QBOOST, he does an excellent range of pedals. Love Pete’s bastardised version of Money for nothing, so much better than the original Dire Dire Straits version.
I think Josh Scott (JHS Pedals) meant that you don't hear the "mystical" clipping circuit until you turn the gain up to about 1 or 2 o'clock. Otherwise, it's' just a clean boost. Personally, I think both ways are usable. Then again, I'm not so precious about these things. After all, I bought a Tone City Bad Horse... on the strength of the Klon clone shootout I might add. It was close enough for me, and does the job. Sorry, I bought it locally. The exchange rate made it cost prohibitive to by it from Andertons, which would have been my preference. I absolutely love you guys! (D&M too) #thatpedalshow
Captain, I think you where having a bit to much fun with that QBoost pedal in the intro. Love it guys! Please keep these series going. I think the QBoost pedal will be my next purchase.
Really enjoyed this vid , its a nice change from all of Your serious and awesome playing , and you might of given Guitar Pedal builders some ideas , especially at the start of this vid. Thanks Blokes
I enjoy these videos, especially the chatter! So far, I have not replaced any of my pedals with any pedal you have demonstrated. The one pedal I liked was the Eric Gales pedal.
Any chance we could ever get a second hand section video? Put together a couple random setups out of used stuff? I'd love to hear that green Chet Atkins through the Mesa combo you've got right now. Or the hollow D'Angelico.
The modern on that Qboost is supposed to be more like a clean boost and you can choose the frequency which is nice because you can find that room frequency or where the amp is sweeter do you’re not boosting the low end on a fender amp that will get flubby. I need this thing in my life
I'm curious, when are you guys going to visit Sweetwater in Ft Wayne, IN and/or invite them to Andertons? It would be cool as two of the bigger stores becoming friends. Anywho, cheers boys and keep up the cool vids!!
Well that's odd... The Captain has trouble/confusion with a pedal with more than 3 knobs? Since when does that happen... other than every time. :) Nice vid, and love the series.

I'd listen too. I get the feeling they have a business to protect, so they might have to heavily censor Pete 🤣
All you gotta do is listen to the RUclips videos without watching 👍🏻
I have a feeling they are pretty busy with the channel and running one of the largest music retailers in the world. But you never know.

Lee: play "money for nothing"!
Pete: plays "no money for anything" 🤣
Those Zeus drives will fly off the shelves. I love it with the drive all the way up.

Q boost sounds great !!!
That's great, but where is my Zeus pedal. Ordered it months ago. ☹️ UPDATE. Arrives tomorrow woop
