- Well, this is the final stage + credits from sonic 2. I had a little problem converting from my original source (60fps video) to my stantard save format in Premiere Pro (current in 30fps), so with this, the animation of the Metal Sonic and Robotnik Robot when they receive a hit is a little bugged, but this is the only problem. I hope you enjoy the video!

I believe what makes this ending touching is that the cutscene pictures is greyscale as Tails and the animals look at the exploding Death Egg. It makes us think that Sonic is dead, but we then cut to Tails with a face of determination that his friend is still alive. He goes to his plane and asks the bird to follow him to where Sonic could be falling before taking off.
We then see Sonic falling an just then, we see Tails catch him on time as the look in the horizon. The music even helps to show how connected they are in their friendship.
It would have been better if he was flying down as super sonic and his powers started to fail him causing him to fall. Then tails saves him with his airplane. it shows that the power of their friendship is even greater than the super sonic power.

Nope, not me I'm afraid. When I watched this I knew that the character of Sonic wasn't dead, mainly because he's the main character.

Surely, the ending with normal sonic is MUCH BETTER than super sonic ending, because it show the friendship between sonic and Tails! And tails rescuing sonic is just AMAZING!
They both work for me. Shows that Tails in either situation worried enough about Sonic to go and catch him.
Remember? Sega hates tails thats why they made him useless in the modern games aside from mania

It makes me cry. When I see a white screen, and suddenly the Sonic comes falling ... falling ... falling and then appears his faithful friend and rescues ! This marked my childhood too .

Vector Monteiro It's the birds chasing the plane that get me bawling every time. What the hell is one TINY little bird expect to catch?! But there they are, trying to do something - anything - to flip the script and save the hero who rescued them a martyr's fate.
And then somehow he gets caught (through impossible odds) on the top of a damn plane. And the birds are there.
And they chase the plane. And my eyes turn into something resembling two fountains.
This game is a G-damn masterpiece.

Yeah, the song is kinda like a "you did it!" or "tears of joy" kind of song! I never beat the game, but I enjoyed playing it when I was little! On my third birthday in 1994, my mom made me a Sonic suit to wear to the party, we had a lot of activities, and what did I get from my parents as my birthday present? A Genesis with THIS GAME!!
I beat this game last night again. The ending made me almost cry too. I suppose it's because its the first game I played. And seeing Tails fly in to get Sonic -- da feels. I recently just got a 24x18 poster of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 framed.
Almost 30 years later and I still love this game☄️
I think this is my favorite ending to any Sonic game. Not the super sonic version though. It's like.. Tails saves Sonic! Because they are frands! Thats what I thought when I was a kid anyway

I just beat this game on the PS3 re-release. I had to use a metric ton of restore points.
Sonic 1, 2, & 3 were easy to beat, especially 3 it was like the shortest. But S&K to Sonic 3 and the game felt way too long. I don't think I ever beat S3&K without cheating.
@British Bulldog mania is the easiest. Sonic 2 the hardest.
@@vh9network That's why the game has saves and "lock on technology". The game was too big to fit on one cart. Also, time and cost where reduced.
The part when sonic jumps on the tornado makes me chill

Nah, but it does make me well a tiny bit. I think it's a combo of the pictures and music, gives it that film-type ending. Kinda reminiscent of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi

It's a bit technical, but there's a reason it has that effect. It's a sneaky musical trick.
The interval that's playing there is, I believe, a perfect fourth, which is essentially neutral-neither happy nor sad. So human ears have the tendency to let perfect intervals suck up the flavor of the sounds that immediately precede them. In this case, the sound that's ringing in my ear is the "tonic" from the main part of the chorus, which, when added to that perfect fourth, outlines a minor triad (basically, a "sad" chord).
So, something that's technically neutral but that uses the memory of something happy to create an auditory illusion of something intangibly sad. No wonder it's emotionally overwhelming.

Hope that if they make a sequel to new movie this is the ending of it, I would literally shiver with goosebumps and then have a nostalgia attack seeing it all in 3D in a cinematic style ☺

I've played almost every sonic game ever made, and for every one that I've played I actually went to buy the soundtrack. They started with awesome music in the first Sonic games, and they still continue to make awesome music even now.
The best ending of all would have been if he was super sonic while running from the explosion, but while he is falling back to earth, his super power fails and he's back to normal while falling and that's when tails comes in to save him.

I oringally got the bad ending years ago. Only by save states and using sonic classic heroes. Only yesterday did i FINALLY got the good ending.
This is the best ending to a sonic game it shows the brotherhood of sonic & tails in the most heart warming way they will always be there for each other no matter what & the music was golden to this scene 👌🏾
The ending on sonic 2 is adorable! Tails saves sonic falling from the death egg zone. Cuz their best buddies! (not the super sonic ending)

I remember when I beat this game for the first time, during the ending sequence before the credits, my genesis locks up. So close, and yet so far to seeing the ending. I was so disappointed, I didn't play sonic 2 for quite a while.
I totally slept on this ending. I've played Sonic 2 three times recently, as each character, Sonic Tails and Knuckles, and it's definitely up there with my favorite endings, along with S3&K and Sonic Unleashed.

the ending is neat because I like the effort they put into showing tails rescuing sonic from his fall. and I like the touch of the flickies flying after tails too. then the final cut of both facing the screen

I could cry. I remember beating this as a kid and I got real happy because I used to die in the game mad time then finally tried it
Sonic does a mad dash out the death egg, as it explodes, Tails and the animals look up into the sky, metal flying everywhere, and soon seeing a blue hedgehog. Tails gets in his plane, allowing the Flickys to follow, Tails flies in his Tornado. Sonic falls out of the sky, landing safely on the tornado, Tails and Sonic fly in the sky, until they see a floating island, But that's another story.
Hill top zone.. i liked that music in the credits.

I love Mario games, but remembering the competition of Nintendo and Sega in the 90's and that Sonic and Mario are the mascots of each company, Mario's endings are almost always childish to please children. While Sega took more risks by addressing more "controversial" things like the possibility of death, as in this ending. And it turned out great. A thousand times more exciting and rewarding than finishing a game and being rewarded by seeing the good guy kissing the princess... boring!!!
