These are the good old days of bosses. 6 consecutive boss battles as Robotnik does his absolute hardest to get away. Death egg zone boss Giant robot fingers Giant robot with laser Robotnik escaping with the master emerald The shuttle trying to escape in the doomsday zone The final robotnik robot still trying to escape when the shuttle goes down. Every time you think you've got him, he keeps on going. Just as any boss would be when determined to get away. This is the pinnacle of final bosses.
Eggman is a good example, we can learn from him: - to have three/multiple backup plans - very organized (he run to ready-for-battle robot) - hard work (he created all of his robot himself) - clever, understand that he is facing a speedster

I remember when I was kid, I heard talk about this Zone but thought it was another one of those lies you hear at the playground, so when I found this I flipped my shit
I love the sense of escalating stakes in this game. First you do an epic takedown at the Death Egg, so it's over right? NO! In fact, that was just half of the game, you go to Lava Reef to stop Eggman definitively, but he steals the Master Emerald and manages to get the Death Egg back up. Knuckles finally gets that he is being fooled, so he helps you go to outer space through Sky Sanctuary to invade it, and it's filled with Eggman's traps that make it super tense to navigate through, and finally as you make through the end he desperately throws every one of his last robots, but thanks to your possession of the Super Emeralds, you are able to stop him. All of this without saying a word. This game is a master class in wordless storytelling
and absolute hell in difficulty. I was almost about to quit in the final stage untill I found out that you could boost and then I beat it in the second try
I always loved the progression of this. Robotnik's robot fingers - robot itself - him in his eggship after it was destroyed - escape to his main ship and super sonic begins - after main ship destroyed, still tries his damnedest to get away with the emerald in his last robot while still firing missiles at sonic in the hopes that super sonic runs out before he can be defeated. Definitely feels like a final boss, something I don't feel in a lot of modern games now.
I still feel so fucking pumped watching this. I can remember being really young in the 90's watching my brother and my dad play this boss and cheering them on

I was 10 years old. This game, Mario games, Zelda games, Fox kids, and nikelodeon were my life, nay my childhood! Growing up in the 90's was the best! Actually reliving some of it now by watching Rocko's Modern Life on the complete series dvd box set I got off of Amazon. Just remember, "Laundry Day is a very dangerous day."
I never realized it as a kid but SUPER SONIC and HYPER SONIC are references to speed, like Sonic's own name. Pretty clever of the creator to give him upgraded forms based on them.
First time I finally beat the game as Hyper Sonic, the master emerald is restored, Sonic and Tails head for home..it really felt like the ultimate ending to an incredible adventure.

Prime example of what Eggman should be, not a whiny manchild who's the butt of the jokes after a defeat, but an absolute menace who absolutely refuses to give up and does not tolerate failure from anyone, not even himself. Combine this level of persistence with Eggman's personality from SA1 and 2 you get the *perfect* villain, someone who while yes does have goofy moments and quirks will absolutely go through any lengths to achieve his goals.

This is, to me, the pinnacle of any final boss of any videogame. S3&K was such a full feeling game with such an amazing soundtrack. The crazy progression of this entire rush of bosses literally makes me feel like "Oh shit this is literally THE end and final confrontation!" It makes me feel like yes, I truly just beat his ass for the final time. If they never made another Sonic game after this, I could have died happy and fulfilled in the series. But seriously though GAT DAMN that soundtrack! I can't get enough of it!
Funny enough. It’s just part one of the Best ending. The second part is Knuckles defeating the Robotnik Clone and restoring the Island to its original state with the Super Emeralds. A reason to play it, again!
No Knuckles' story takes place BEFORE Sonic's story because that was when Eggman first arrived at Angel Island. Sonic and Tails didn't get there until after Knuckles was tricked into thinking they were his enemies.
I always wished they'd kept the Sonic 3 sound effects and boss music into Sonic & Knuckles instead of putting the Sonic & Knuckles effects & boss music into Sonic 3 when the games were together.

I still love this. As a kid maybe around 8 years old or so, I beat this game several times without obtaining all the emeralds. I didn’t know what that were for or that this zone existed. So when I finally unlocked Super Sonic and got to this zone, I still remember my extreme excitement. My hands were trembling! Not many moments in my life have come close to that feeling, this is definitely one of my core memories forever.

I think to this day this is the best Sonic game in all it's glory. The big 3, co-op mode with flight assist. Best Genesis graphics, both games attached, great soundtrack. This was peak Sonic era
No Big, no Shadow, no talking sword, no human love interest, no weird chao creatures, no weird anatomy, no talking. This is what I remember Sonic being. Just Sonic vs Robotnik and his robots.

I don't think many today don't appreciate how long Sonic 3 + Sonic & Knuckles was. To complete both these games collecting all 14 Chaos Emeralds was a time commitment and skill level needed to pull this off. Timeless classic.
That bonus Doomsday zone you got at the end was like the hardest sh*t in all the classic Sonic games haha. Not only did it feature the most insane bosses in the entire game, but it was restricted to Sonic only (meaning you had to go through the game the hard way first, no flying or climbing walls with Tails or Knuckles), AND you had to get ALL emeralds to unlock Supersonic mode, or else it wouldn't trigger. I vaguely recall having succeeded in clearing Doomsday zone back then, but man, talk about a pain in the arse haha. XD

I was 7 when I beat this on my DS lite. Since then I’ve beat games like Spider-Man, GTA, Breath of the Wild, and grinded hours on other multiplayer games. But no gaming accomplishment has ever come remotely close to beating this game all those years ago

I read somewhere that Robotnik is actually very strong and athletic, despite allowing his machines and robots to do most of his work for him, and despite his egg-shaped physique.
I’m 31 and always remembered this boss being super hard for me as a kid. I could always get passed the fingers but always had a hard time dodging the laser.
Sonic dashes at the robot, until it explodes, Sonic grabs the master emerald, carrying it onto the Tornado, fading out his hyper form. They fly over Angel Island, returning the master emerald to Knuckles, making the island rise again. Knuckles sees them fly by, and thanking the blue hedgehog and the orange fox, Sonic and Tails fly into the distance, as animals follow.
They really tried their hardest for just 1994! I think this is by FAR the BEST sonic game with the BEST music! Also, whose still watching this in 2022? I know i am.
The pre-Doomsday zone boss is a bitch. I remember I was close to running out of time on that one so I was like "eh, I'll just time out and I'll restart the level with a full timer" and then you realize that you restart the boss... with no rings.
I feel like hyper Sonic was a cool adition It think it should return like with the sprite animating community does sometimes (completely grey with sorta a multi color aura on himself)
As a kid i never beat the game game with all the emralds and thought it was just that. But now that got all the emralds as an adult i was blown away by the Doomsday zone. It was such a magical yet intimidating moment lol.
My bullies bullied me for not beating the doomsday zone my grandma helped me with seven chaos emeralds and super emeralds she died aswell rest in peace 😢

I don't think many today don't appreciate how long Sonic 3 + Sonic & Knuckles was. To complete both these games collecting all 14 Chaos Emeralds was a time commitment and skill level needed to pull this off. Timeless classic.
That bonus Doomsday zone you got at the end was like the hardest sh*t in all the classic Sonic games haha. Not only did it feature the most insane bosses in the entire game, but it was restricted to Sonic only (meaning you had to go through the game the hard way first, no flying or climbing walls with Tails or Knuckles), AND you had to get ALL emeralds to unlock Supersonic mode, or else it wouldn't trigger.
I vaguely recall having succeeded in clearing Doomsday zone back then, but man, talk about a pain in the arse haha. XD
Honestly the instashield is a SUPER good ability
Tfw Tails lands the final blow on the 2nd phase just as you're about to jump into it thus making you jump through it and fall into the abyss below.

I was 7 when I beat this on my DS lite. Since then I’ve beat games like Spider-Man, GTA, Breath of the Wild, and grinded hours on other multiplayer games. But no gaming accomplishment has ever come remotely close to beating this game all those years ago

this games ending(normal ending) is probably the best ending in any sonicgame.not saying other endings arent good,but come on xD its just epic how that giant robot just follows you with the master emerald and then you follow a defeated eggman to take the emerald back and during all of this,the epic music plays

I love at 2:33 egg man just books it with the emerald. Where was he going? He had nothing left lol.
Sonic dashes at the robot, until it explodes, Sonic grabs the master emerald, carrying it onto the Tornado, fading out his hyper form. They fly over Angel Island, returning the master emerald to Knuckles, making the island rise again. Knuckles sees them fly by, and thanking the blue hedgehog and the orange fox, Sonic and Tails fly into the distance, as animals follow.

The pre-Doomsday zone boss is a bitch. I remember I was close to running out of time on that one so I was like "eh, I'll just time out and I'll restart the level with a full timer" and then you realize that you restart the boss... with no rings.
I feel like hyper Sonic was a cool adition
It think it should return like with the sprite animating community does sometimes (completely grey with sorta a multi color aura on himself)
As a kid i never beat the game game with all the emralds and thought it was just that. But now that got all the emralds as an adult i was blown away by the Doomsday zone. It was such a magical yet intimidating moment lol.
