Nice video Jon. I used to live on Charles St, between Bleecker and West 4th so your video brought back fond memories. Am wondering if you have done a review of pizzerias in the other boroughs? My own findings are that the best pizza is actually outside of Manhattan in Brooklyn, Queens, etc., where places don't have to deal with the same level of volume (in most cases) and the quality and oversight is really good. Also, some places make really thin crust pizza that has to be eaten when it comes right out of the oven as it doesn't reheat well. Great work on your part and a nice video done with your friend from Italy.
I think the taste of the crust is something often overlooked. I was told that one of the main reasons the NYC is among the best tasting pizzas in the world is that the city water they use which comes from upstate NY. I don't know if that's true or not, but I can say, having tried pizza all over the USA, that NYC pizza is the best by far.
That water thing IMHO is a myth. The most important part is cooking at higher temperatures for a shorter period of time. If you go to some pizza chain restaurant, they'll cook it at 500 degrees for 10 minutes. New York places sometimes do 900 degrees for 90 seconds.

I think Joe's makes the most authentic NYC slice in Manhattan. Growing up in Brooklyn, it was hard to find a good slice when I moved to the city (Manhattan), but Joe's is up there.
Wouldn't have made any difference in the determination. First two slices looked like cardboard with tomato sauce and melted crayons. The 3rd slice LOOKED like actual pizza. I feel sorry for New Yorkers if you eat that trash and think that's what pizza is supposed to be. I'm not from Chicago either. I've just had good pizza and bad pizza and it was obvious those first two slices were garbage. I like all kinds of pizza styles when it's actually good. I was surprised by the looks of those first two slices.
Say hi to Gianni from me! We're trying to catch each other somewhere around the world but it's quite hard for two travellers like us 😔 Also, I just released a video as well where I talk about Kesté and thank you for letting me know about the place :)
@@thyslop1737 The last time I went there was 2004 with friends on a weekday after lunch hours so the wait wasn't like it is now. It was one of my favorite slices but our tastes change with time. Many good pizza joints I liked went out of business like Two Boots in G Central and SOHO and Carnegie Pizza across from the hall. Carnegie was around for decades.
@@riproar11 Yeah, well it was awhile back when I went. Somewhere btw 2010-2011. They were still raving about it then. It is an odd story. I am always on the hunt for good food. Scoured NYC for pizza, pastrys, hot dogs, coffee, sushi, CHINESE FOOD-especially Chinatown Queens, etc., during the time wife and I lived there, but no longer live in Brooklyn. The day I was there at DiFara's the film crew from O Globo was there. A major media outlet from Brazil. They came specifically to review pizza joints. Got to know their crew, especially the knockout female reporter. We chatted for awhile, since I speak Portuguese fairly well. Had waited over two hours for my pizza. The place was packed. They wanted to film me and my reaction. Pie comes out. I take a bite. Camera in my face. I lookup and 50 people are staring back at me in anticipation. The first thought running through my head is if I tell the people what I really think about the pizza they will tear me from limb to limb. So, I lied and told them in English and Portuguese how great it was. I was shocked and disappointed. It was good but not great. Will say I was just in NYC. Stopped by the Whole Foods at Bryant Park. First floor on your right is the coffee and pastry section. Walk in on your right, middle section probably mid way up in the bins, I think it was the Sticky Bun I got. That thing was to die for. Not made by a Whole Foods, but an outside vendor from Brooklyn.
I'm from NY and pizza is a three combination. Good crust, cheese and it has to have great sauce. So when you bit into a slice you have to taste the good crust, cheese and sauce.
It's not like that at all, here we use fork and knife as a preference. Usually when the centre of the pizza is soggy u will eat that part with fork and knife and u fold the rest of the slice
bulls* Pizza al taglio is pizza "to go" and u don't use cutlery for that. When you go to a restaurant you will be given fork and knife ofc but some people still fold it and eat it with their own hands

I’m Italian and I have tried ny pizza. Maybe I’ve not tried the best one but it’s a completely different from Italian one. It’s not only the taste. It’s an other way way to be. The key issues are completely different. And also the way to judge is different. An American usually judge positively a large amount of cheese and toppings. An Italian usually judge positively a well done, well lit and well cooked dough and the good quality of 2-3 poor ingredients on the top. That’s all. It’s not the pizza itself. It’s the culture of food completely different. Sorry for my English.
exeuroweenie good for you! I personally think that conversations as “this is the best, this is better than that” are worthless because it all depends on people tastes and cultural differences.
exeuroweenie well maybe the only thing where the Italian food snobbery (maybe it’s better idea of food supremacy) is justified is the quality of the food ingredients. I have travelled a bit and trust me when I say that the taste of a south Italian fresh tomato, a mozzarella di bufala campana or the quality of the flower is quite impossible to find in other places. Or maybe you can find it but paying it 10 times more.
Your English is excellent,no need to apologize. And you're right, you Italians know balance better. We Americans overdo everything sometimes. As much as I like NY pizza,if I had to choose,I'd live off the Napoli version. And yes, your groceries are much better.
Jēmuzu Otoko Almost all of the great foods came from the most humble beginnings. Pizza. Lobster. Tacos. Butter Chicken. On and on, poor people have *made* cuisine.
My impression of the American interpretation of Italian food is to add loads of tomato sauce. In Italy they are actually quite restrained with the amount of sauce on things.
Yeah and they also don't put that much cheese ! I have been on Italy and saw a classic original pizza had everything in a right amount not more not less that's what made it fantastico
The best pizza I’ve ever had was at The Mav Kitchen & tap house in Fort Morgan Colorado. It sounds crazy, but a little indian reservation town out in the middle of nowhere nailed it. Best tasting pizza ever!

Just looking at the 3rd piece it's a work of art...it already tastes better.
Say hi to Gianni from me! We're trying to catch each other somewhere around the world but it's quite hard for two travellers like us 😔
Also, I just released a video as well where I talk about Kesté and thank you for letting me know about the place :)
I'll try to watch later. And wow almost 5K subs congrats !!
Here Be Barr No worries I’m sure I don’t mention any new place to you 🙂
Thanks!
The outtake at the end makes you a pro 😊
😂😂😂😂😂
6:04 „I think it might be a little overrated at times“
Dude in the background:
Did he really just say Joe‘s overrated??
😂
This just inspired me to find and to film my search for the closest thing to New York pizza here on the west coast. I’m gonna need lots of luck!
Send it my way if you find it.
Man should have taken him to Da Fara's, Lucali, John's, or even Prince St Pizza.
Da Fara is a long trip and wait but worth it. Don't forget Don Giovanni and Grimaldi's.
@@riproar11 Grimaldi's isn't the real Grimaldi's...it's next door at Juliana's that Grimaldi is making his famous pizza in DUMBO town.
@@riproar11 Went to DiFara's and thought it was overrated and if you have no life to wait for your pie.
I pray these pizza shops are still in business. I would have loved to have accompanied these guys and joined in. Looks SO good!
Almost every italian never disappoint their stereotypes
Thanks I really enjoyed this episode and I soooooo miss NYC pizza! I live in CO now and forgetaboutit...it just cant compare!
I feel my inner Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle awakening when watching this clip.
I need a Pizza, Cowabunga!
😂😂😀
Bleeker st is even mention I. TMNT 1990 the superior first film.
@@marlonsanchez3141 It's also mentioned and depicted in the 2012 series, which also is something worth watching.
Awesome comment BRO! I relate to Mikey!
You did a nice job with the order of these slices
Yep, best for last.
Agreed with previous comment that it's not fair to compare a nonna pizza to cheese pizza. Also it's pronounced no-nah not naw-nah 😊
Buck a slice... Italian or Australian, what would you expect... seriously🤔
If the guy tasting pizza is a true Italian, then I am the pope. Bless you all!
You haven’t had a pizza, if you have not had a Hot and Ready.
True, yeah that is true, pretty true
You haven't had pizza until you start with a cup of flour!
Fun fact, tomatos are a new world vegetable . So Italy didn't have Pizza or tomato sauce before North and South America were discovered
#TeamJon- Take Gianni to multiple Sicilian or/and Grandma pizza spots in NYC. 👍🍕
The last pizza place looks amazing😍
Okay, Bleecker Street Pizza is on my list of places to visit next weekend. :D
I got to go there 3 weeks ago
Also check out Di Fara's in Brooklyn. Cash only
Great video! This video makes me hungry and miss nyc LOL! Going to have to head down next month
I think it’s hilarious how people stare at you guys filming like they’ve never seen that before in one of the biggest cities in the world.
hahahah. We had more cameras than normal as he was filming for his channels as well.
My god that last pizza looked so good, gotta try it next time im in NYC
You should have taken him to Lombardi's or John's Pizza. Coal oven pizza tastes so much better than gas.
Lombardi's and John's are pizza restaurants...no individual slices served.
Preferably no gas, no conveyors.
Wood or coal.
@@roberthuttle wood or coal gives you GAS...LOL
I’ll be in NY next year and all your videos have been fantastic and very helpful!! Heading to Bleeckers for sure to grab a slice!!
Take him to the old Italian
neighborhoods
In NJ...Newark, Trenton etc.
NY is good, but Jersey pizza is the best🍕
I'm from NY and pizza is a three combination. Good crust, cheese and it has to have great sauce. So when you bit into a slice you have to taste the good crust, cheese and sauce.
It’s so different in Italy where each person eats their own pizza with knife and fork.
If you eat pizza with a fork you're a soyboy
@@JMD215 Like Trump?

Of course I'm getting around to watching this video hours before I head to Laguardia and fly back home.
I make my own,it's kind of a fusion of authentic Italian and Italo American.Don't worry, your English is excellent.
exeuroweenie good for you! I personally think that conversations as “this is the best, this is better than that” are worthless because it all depends on people tastes and cultural differences.
@@rich8713 You're so right.Maybe it's all good.I get tired of food snobbery.
exeuroweenie well maybe the only thing where the Italian food snobbery (maybe it’s better idea of food supremacy) is justified is the quality of the food ingredients.
My nyc friends come to Buffalo and pass out with joy over how good our pizza is.
Though I do love nyc pizza more. Personally.
Not surprised Gianni liked the Nonna Maria best!
I'm not gonna mention the way you took that bite from the last slice.. I'm gonna say that pizza looked delicious
You should have taken him to Amore pizza in flushing queens. It’s Iconic and ridiculously delicious.
Ahahahaha that was a great title idea and I'm glad you did it first. I wouldn't have wanted to steal the premiere 🙊
I would have done it with you, but you were in NYC before !
Here Be Barr I’ll probably come back in November, we should make a video together then!
@@WhatashameMaryJane Sure
Pizza started as a poor mans way of stretching his check , so yeah it’s always gonna be good.
Jēmuzu Otoko Almost all of the great foods came from the most humble beginnings. Pizza. Lobster. Tacos. Butter Chicken. On and on, poor people have *made* cuisine.
Jaasau agreed.
Italian here, yes almost all our food recipes where made by poor people, simple, fresh and common ingredients and good, that’s all about it!
Never had pizza when we visited NYC. Now, I can't wait to try some. 🍕
how do you manage that one? 11th deadly sin?
My impression of the American interpretation of Italian food is to add loads of tomato sauce. In Italy they are actually quite restrained with the amount of sauce on things.
Yeah and they also don't put that much cheese ! I have been on Italy and saw a classic original pizza had everything in a right amount not more not less that's what made it fantastico
It's true. I do like my tomato sauce.
Yooo.... I totally agree with Bleecker Street Pizza being the BEST in the city! U are killing it John.
You cant beat the Nona!
Ok, you take a guy to eat pizze in NY and all in all he's quite happy with what he's eating?
He must be from Milan.
tu hai capito tutto dalla vita, complimenti.
my mouth is watering!!!
Actually when go to INDIA, for $3.60 you wud get an entire Pizza that too with Indian flavour....but this too seems good...
Love your content
The best pizza I’ve ever had was at The Mav Kitchen & tap house in Fort Morgan Colorado. It sounds crazy, but a little indian reservation town out in the middle of nowhere nailed it. Best tasting pizza ever!
Tourist to a dollar slice? This guy can’t be from New York.
They should have gone to Cross Bay Blvd in Queens or 86st in Brooklyn
This was like 6-7 months before covid. No one would imagine how restaurants, NYC and the world would change
I've got the chance to eat a slice of new york pizza en july and the one i tried was en 44 et 9 avenu at city pizza... I don't know id it's the best.. but it was really good !!!
There is nothing like a New York pizza. I was born and raised in Brooklyn and moved in the late 70s. There was a Tony Kings pizza on 5th ave and 52nd street next to the fire station. They had the best pizza. I live in Ohio and there is nothing even close to New York style pizza. I visited New York and spent a week there. All I ate was pizza and kinishes.
