Romhack Wednesday #2! I got a nice list from the comments of the last video but if you have more suggestions of SMB1 romhacks to play let me know! I stream these live every Wednesday at 2pm EST! Sub here and follow the stream to catch 'em all! www.twitch.tv/kosmic
16:50 if you go frame by frame, it looks like when you first touched that buzzy goomba you got pushed away from it, and then just stayed inside its hitbox or something, idk how that works thought thats weird
Just started the Romhack Wednesday playlist up and I'm already floored by how cool this is, can't wait to see what wild stuff the rest of this playlist has!
I think you got the title the wrong way around. :P You've played Wario Land, right? I was quite surprised to see a Wario Land enemy here, but you didn't seem to mention it at all. Wario Land music too, I guess the author is a fan? Ah, you haven't played Wario Land in any recent time, as you were surprised by how to kill those enemies. Much recommended, then! Be sure to play Wario Land II, 3 and 4 too. Good video! This hack is crazy. I had no idea something like this existed; it's very cool. I appreciate that you kept the video length manageable by not showing the completionist parts! I also like that you wanted to keep those parts to figure out for ourselves, but I don't think this is a type of game I would enjoy. If you play something inspired by SMB2J, I might get it!
awesome! watching romhack wednesday is going to be great, hope you enjoy doing these as much as i enjoy watching them! i also like trying out new romhacks every now and then but i don't stream or post videos.
Darn I wanted to see your reaction to the final boss. Also, the fact that it looks like you didn't know you could break through certain hidden holes in normal ground-based walls with the super fire was low-key bothering me LOL. Great video!
That boss: cool concept and technical ability but BAD execution. And soo bad with limited lives... I wouldn't complain at all about anything in this if you couldn't run out of lives. Beating all area 5 + that boss with limited... Yikes
@@frogg4711 yeah i agree. They were fine back in the day to lengthen short NES games but if I'm playing a romhack of said game I don't want it artificially lengthened lol.
The download for this patch includes an HTML manual that also includes a Super Metroid style map of all the areas, it helps a lot for navigating this game in general.
Ooh, since we're now doing SMB1 rom hacks, I may want to mention a few NES Mario trilogy hacks I remember spotting on the internet many years back. Air (SMB1 hack, centralized on gimmicks) Super Mario Bros 2: Return of Subcon (A rather difficult SMB2 USA modification) Super Mario Bros 3Mix (Full blown SMB3 hack, everything is different)
Here are some rom hacks that you should play: Mario's Keep, Megaman in Super Mario Bros., Perils of a Princess, Super Mario Bros. but the coins are spikes.
I think you need at least 6 keys to get to area 8, you can keep getting the same key but you need new key at ur current last area to unlock the next area
I'd love to see you do Super Mario Zero 1 or 2, they are kaizo light, but look designed to be fun and RTA viable, similar to the best smw kaizo light hacks.
What Technical Fire does is let you hold Up and throw fiireballs in a high arc. You were doing it in the Bowser fight but I don't know if you realized it.
People tend to not realize that things can burn while still underwater. And there are some fuels that when ignited will refuse to go out even if it's underwater or even a vacuum. I notice that this uses some music and enemies from Wario Land.
Hey Kosmic this is not related to the video but you have inspired me to Play super Mario brothers and I have a 5:41 I know it’s not great but I am super close to beating it quite a bit thanks for all the awesome content keep it up
Well that was thoroughly enjoyable! I'll have to catch you live one day. I follow you on Twitch but the time difference is weird so I never get to catch you live. Hahaha!
@@Kosmicd12 Yup exactly, Id like to see some kind of pastebin or spreadsheet with a list, so me or other curious viewers could know about some ROM hacks to play too :) Keep the good work ;)
this hack would be better if it somehow allowed you to keep fire always or something since you need it for everything, and the saving and dying and lives were just, friendlier the game originally came with a bit of a manual showing off what the powerups did and some partial maps, like super metroid-- not sure if the rhdn upload does spoilers below true area 5 is really frustrating and I can see why you'd give up in it, but it's exploring around before you get there is the fun of it true area 0 is at least intentionally built like a marathon level so it works better, i like the actual final boss

You should do this romhack of Super Mario Bros called "The Lost Levels" apparently it's super professionally built, but the level design is subpar

Wow, now this is quite a different league compared to the first rom hack. I didn't know such advanced SMB1 hacks existed.
@Boco Corwin Definitely. Looking forward to it.

Same for me till this day
SMB3 has two Bowsers though, so one of them is fake, you just don't know which one

they don't change to a different enemy when you kill them with fireballs though, so they must both be real! Maybe one is Bruce :)
2 bowsers??? What am I missing?

Romhack Wednesdays are a lot of fun. I enjoyed watching this live and the hack you played today (hinted at in this video).

Yeah, just like the original metroid: you get lost very easily XD
For anyone who doesn't know, the music at 17:48 and the weird "Urchin" enemies are from Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3.
OMG I saw this posted earlier and have been waiting all day to sit back and watch!
That Wario Land theme in the area with the firebars and waterfalls was cool
"I'll leave that as an experience for you all to experience for yourself"
I would be shocked if more than 2 or 3 people at most did that.
I like how you tell me that I can tell it's Metroid inspired by the music, when I've never played Metroid in my life.

The cheep cheeps have little Samus S’s! That’s adorable!

When you realize that Mario's fireballs in this hack would be the perfect Minecraft digging tool.. even though you don't play Minecraft😅
At 5:30 is that a spot to get infinite lives?
I like that the Mario sprite is the same one from Super Mario Land 2
