  • (Surrounds, etc. available on www.repairyourspeakers.com.) P.S. If the frame has flat strong glue left, you may glue over it. The frame can also be cleaned with sticker-remover (at own risk), the cone with alcohol / IPA. P.S. I saw afterwards some small errors in language, sorry for that.

A customer didn't liked the silence in this video. We replied:
    Good morning,
A video subscribed with text has some profits. You can read it everywhere, with no distortion of sound to others. Also the most people are used in reading a subscribed video. And if you want you can play your own music with the video.
    Best regards, Fred

After using 10x as much glue as you should have... be sure to squeeze all the excess glue out and smear it around. Poke it with q-tips so that it gets all of that fuzzy q-tip lint stuck in it forever.

Good morning, well, you're maybe right, but the glue dries. The glue can be made some more liquid (see: www.repairyourspeakers.com/en/glue-brush-fluid/c-3). The glue dries up to be less heavy. Certain when you work in a warm environment, it can be handy to make the glue some more liquid, and use less glue. Best regards, Fred

Just refoamed my Heybrook HB3 mids, and it all went as on the video. One small point, it needed more glue than shown, especially the outer edge where the foam was sticking to aluminium. But I lifted the edge and used a very small brush to apply more glue. Apart from that it worked well. The biggest problem was removing the old glue, which was very strong and rubbery; it had to be carefully carved off, rather than scraped.
Oh, and it took 2 weeks to arrive, but Audiofriends did warn that might happen.

One of many speaker repair videos - helpful, and this is a good one, but always there's near-zero detail on how to centre the spider and coil if a moulded-in dustcap prevents use of shims. I still haven't found out whether the surround or the spider should be centred first.

Good morning, good question. PVA is often used, when the glue is dry it needs to be flexible. So no glue for wood, but a PVA that stays flexible. Is possible, but not perfect. We have an industrial glue. We have tested the glue also on plastic frames, aluminium, etc. Also it can be handy if the glue doesn't shrink too much while drying. Te most information about our glue can be found on www.repairyourspeakers.com/index.php?action=extra&extra=A_19__lijm_voor_montage__welke_&lang=en. The difference between PVA and our glue is that our glue is stronger and more flexible when dry. They look the same, but if you test the both glues, our glue is in dry condition the best.

Satisfactorily replaced two pairs of deteriorated surrounds , the adhesive Speaker Repair Adhesive . IMO have yet to find a better application accompanied with Cone Edge Sealer.
(Provided by www.SimplySpeakers.com) possibly comparable to the material used in your informative video
      ~Simply fantastic results

What kind of liquid did you use to remove the old surround from the paper cone?

Good morning, thanks for your reply. We use methylated spirits or pure alcohol. These are both not complete the same. Methylated spirits is added a blue colour and some other small amount liquid to make it not useable for consumption. Alcohol is colourless. I must say that at the drugstore I had to explain to them, that I used it for instance for cleaning the heads of tape recorders etcetera. They were not very easy to sell the alcohol to me. Best regards, Fred
