I have the Boston Accoustics A 40 that I bought back in the Winter of 1986. They sounded great and were written up in various audio magazines as a very good pair in sound & price for bookshelf designs. For 13 or so years, they were used at my mom's condo when I gave them to her for her birthday in January. They didn't have a lot of playing time by her or when I came for visits. By the early 2000's, I started to use them more frequently with my large audio collection...then, one day, they sounded bad. Took the grill cover off and wahala! They had the deterioration of the foam woofer supports. It was many years till just this week in October, 2019, that I finally ordered via Amazon the "Simply Speakers" replacement foams.
I've watched a few RUclips videos on how to replace the foam parts and, none to me seemed as easy as THIS video. Now...my question to this video is how to correctly trim down the slight excess of the foam units that overhang by 4/32nd of an inch. I have a new ACTO BLADE cutter and I want to do the cutting right the first time. This project is a first for me. If it works out, I have an elderly friend who's deceased husband bought many years ago a set of Radio Shack 15" 3 way speakers and the woofers are in need of a foam job.
I would like to read someone's suggestion on my "cutting-a-bit to fit", soon.
    Thanks!

@Untrepid One - I did get the Boston Acoustics A 40 series a "proper fix" last year with the repair kit from Simply Speakers web site ordering. It was not hard...just follow the instructions and take time with it. The speakers sound like "new" if my hearing, which it's far from when I bought the Boston speakers is not like way back then.
      Thanks for the suggestion, though.

No need to mark the wires. They have different sizes so will only fit one way.

I replaced the foam on a set of Epicure 10 speakers. I used both denatured alcohol and lacquer thinner to remove the glue. Lacquer thinner worked much better.

Do the cones not need centralising? I was wondering how you would do so on a T830 woofer.

The voice coil should be shimmed for proper gap alignment. This will ensure that the voice coil doesn't rub in the gap after reassembly and will ensure that the speaker performs as designed. Some speakers have a larger voice coil gap and can be re-surrounded without shimming. Speakers with a small voice coil gap, like the A60, should always be shimmed for proper alignment. If in doubt, you should shim the voice coil.

+John Marrero I was going to suggest the same thing, you could smooth out the glue near the edges so it doesn't leak into the paper cone area or the metal surround area. Also you can apply the glue to both rings at once this way. I will do this project later today.

No need to do that extra zipping thing, there is a red plus sign on the woofer , you t attach the red wire to that port, you just adding extra not needed task.

Hey thanks for this opportunity, Hey I also found out that you guys could make more money if you sold your kits with a little less glue, I found that you only use a fraction of glue you give. I know other people might need more glue, but its something to think about.

Sorry, you missed a step. The dust cap has to removed and shims inserted between voice coil and pole piece for proper alignment of voice coil gap. Method shown in video will surely result in rubbing voice coil.
