  • As speakers age, their foam rubber surrounds decay, dry out, and eventually fall apart. This is a how-to video, showing how to replace them when they fail.
This is a set of 1994-vintage Boston HD7 bookshelf speakers.

Thanks for this video. I found a wood veneer set at Goodwill for eight dollars. Foam was roached, but they still sound pretty great. Repair kit is on the way and I'll be following your instructions.

Very thorough job! I just did this to my HD7’s the other day and the kit came with the equivalent of “Testers” model glue (having done a fare bit of model building as a kid....I knew the smell). It was very neat to bring these back to life....I bought mine new in 1993. Unfortunately, I have slightly better sounding (not by much) speakers and these will go back into storage as spares....lol.

Right on! I have a couple sets of these now - I found a set at a thrift store with bad foam for $10, repaired them and put them on my desk in my office, hooked them up to a little JVC microsystem - they make for amazing computer speakers!
