Really appreciate seeing someone who actually cares about doing things well rather than quickly and cheaply. Details matter. Thanks for sharing these videos.
Today I learned that flush mount outlets are a thing! Fabulous craftsmanship!
And today I'm also questioning WHY???? Seems like a sh!t ton of extra work for not much gain
@@jayer-su3hu debatable if u want a specific finish you'll adore this I think minimal setups will go to the next level its almost like someone drew sockets on a wall super cool
I chuckle in disbelief EVERY time you talk about the plaster job. The time and effort that they have to put into jobs has to be incredible. Kudos from an internet stranger.
You guys build with such detail and care about the work you are doing and work that gets done is truly remarkable and rare!
Every time I see your work, I'm amazed by your level of perfection! Thanks for sharing!
It’s beautiful and I love it.
Top notch finish work!
Amazing look! Great job
Closing up a project is always hard. You look really tired, energy is low. Soon enough you'll be able to rest up! Great work!
This is the kind of craftsmanship I expect. 👏
Wow, really want to see more on those speakers. Top level work
I would like to see how they preformed before and after.. I have never heard of a speaker that preforms "well" after covering it up..
There are in-wall speakers with very nice looking magnetic cover sheets that are paintable to the wall color and are pretty much invisible, AND they wont restrict sound quality nor dB. With paint and a thin plaster, you are going to loose some. but in a kitchen or someplace you just want sound for a inter come or very general background music, it would be fine. I would NOT use that in my audio room.
Looks amazing. Really tickles my need for cleanliness :) That said the gap immediately concerned me. I feel like even 1mm gap has caused me giant headaches when trying to get a firm seat with a plug; and that looks to be 3-5 mm at least. I kinda wish the outlet itself was sitting flush but kinda ruins the look in the end.
Great attention to detail either way :)
Love these little details!
Thanks Joe! Appreciate you watching
NS Builders I get some good inspiration from your videos! Just talked my first customer into an “NS shadow gap” over the kitchen crown. I gave you guys the credit of course
Love these outlets. Would love to have these, or Bocci outlets, in my own home someday. Details like these separate a decent project from a great one. I feel like anyone who likes these outlets should also check out Meljac switches, another well considered electrical solution for the design obsessed.
This thumbnail temporarily broke my brain. I kept trying to read it as “flush toilets”.
excellence, very nice....very very nice.
As someone who grew up around many construction sites, the level of detail work you guys are doing is insane. It’s impressive, inspiring, and ridiculous. I’m sure the client is rich af, and specialized work like this, I’m sure, pays well. I like the flat walls, flush outlets, and hidden speakers, but the HVAC vent looks awful IMO. Why not paint it white so it almost disappears? Regardless of my opinion, I’ve got all kinds of ideas from watching this, and you guys are doing excellent work. Thanks for sharing!
I love this! Even IF you don't see how these will improve your current house/living experience - I LOVE the fact that SOMEONE is looking go beyond the "status quo". I appreciate your commitment to striving for excellence. IMHO you need to look at these type of creative ideas to everyday home surroundings the same as people did owning a larger 65" flat screen tv in the early 1990's. "insane. overkill. overpriced. waste of money. only for people with the space & money to waste". They become more accepted, normalized and prolific and within a matter of years they are practically giving away the larger screens. Same with cars...imagine a car that people thought was wasteful to add the option to roll down the windows in the back seat (when you didn't have air conditioning). Was it necessary to operate the car?
With this added labor for making them perfectly flush, these will always remains luxury details given cost of labor. Astonishing nevertheless. Visually very appeasing.
Great work as always and amazing trade shown. The best part for me is how you persuaded the client to spend all there money on this detail that probably they’ll never appreciate the amount of man hours and thought that went into this. If it was me I would be way happier with an extra bathroom or boot room for the cost. It’s a little over the edge.
This sort of mindset is killing craftsmanship. Just because few will appreciate something is no reason not to do it. We're sharing a detail that took true craftsmanship to create. Thanks for watching!
That’s pretty slick !! But yuk having to step over that threshold going outside every time!! I’m sure it’s for water reasons!! But I would trip every time!! Love the detail!!!
Weather and were renovating a 100 year old building, there were constraints on what could be done to the exterior.
I would be concerned about the gap that plate cover creates, especially if using a vacuum cleaner or other high wattage device.
Form over function. But oh so pretty
@@okymek I could see that in the kitchen but most of the room outlets are infrequently used so it should be too bad. Thought they lack USB power or PoE sockets, I care more about that now than 120V.
i have them and there are ZERO issues
I used them on a project with all outlets in the baseboards, for certain venetian plaster walls and in the kitchen island. Really well built product just takes some getting used too.
Agreed.
I prefer to put the outlets in the baseboard. How do these install in a baseboard? All I saw in the video was the very large sheetrock-type mounting flange around the outlet. My concern with these in the wall is that there is more taping and mudding to do which requires more time and effort to achieve a smooth, almost invisible joint.
seems like the extra thickness of the plate would lead to lots of loose fitting plugs, as the plugs are expecting to insert a certain depth, and if there's like 2-5mm of stuff in the way, they will never fully engage.
@@EricDavisED not to mention the matte paint. Anyone who attempts to pull a plug is likely to smudge the wall/paint, instead of a normal wallplate that resists fingerprints fairly well. These are going to look dirty pretty easily.
Reinventing the wheel creates more problems
This is fixing a problem that doesn't exist. Way too much trouble, work, and OCD just to have flush mounted plates and speakers. Who gives a rats ass! The decorator put a nail through the speaker...That sums up all future problems! Builds like this are a headache for subsequent owners and contractors. It does not age well and renovations and repairs are basically impossible or expensive because what's behind the wall is not what you think or know.
@@colinstu We’ve been executing flush outlets & switches for 5+ years on most of our builds, as well as clay plaster finished walls. I’ve never heard customer complaints on smudges, though we use Pass & Seymour LeGrand pop out outlets most locations.
It’s not really any different than flush baseboards and trim less door frame installs. Our homes are upper end prices in expensive locations, Boulder to Nederland in CO and in BigSky. Customer‘s expect that level of craftsmanship.
This concerned me too
I agree it looks nice but wow to spend all the time for outlets is mind boggling, especially those wall mounted ones that will be hidden!!
They look really nice, pretty certain we don’t have anything like that over here but I’d like to have them.
Don’t think they would look as sleek of the wall wasn’t also white but still nice 👌🏼
Actually with a white wall its less aesthetically important. As a color wall makes the white trim stand out. But with white wall, they dont. But since you can simply paint the plate (I would spray a strong clear matte/gloss acryl or epoxy type coating to protect the paint), You now have no white plates sticking out.
I am also a Boston area builder and I am in planning phase of a kitchen remodel. Our kitchen layout is going to have a standard height granite backsplash then window trim directly on top of that over the counters. The whole wall will be windows above counter with no upper cabinets. My question is after working with the flush mounted outlets do you think they can be modified to flush mount into the flat stock window trim if we CMC the holes in the trim boards and give the same look as they do in the plastered walls?
Any more details on the high-pressure slot diffuser and return register? We want to use the hp system in a new house reno we are doing, but we don't want 10 2" vents in each room.
I've been waiting for this video for over a year now 😁. I'm sure she too
Worth the wait? Lol
@@NSBuilders
As often happens, excitement was very brief haha. Looks really cool. still can't wait to see switches!
This should be standard
No lmao
this would be very nice in a wallpapered room.
This is pretty cool! It might even be great for baby-proofing since you could make
blank plates to make sure kids can't access the outlets then replace them with regular plates when you want.
Blank plates would be good for outlets that are there for code but rarely get used. Would essentially make them disappear.
I have a wooden mantel that i would love to replace the current outlets with flush outlets. Can these be installed in wood?
Can this material be use on a blacksplash with tile or countertop material ?
I am interested to see the video about the guys at van Gervin, can you send the link, please?
Why the make work project? Is it just a labor of love or is someone paying extra for it? Seems incredibly ocd
what a STUPID comment
your website is amazing who did it for you?
www.slash.wtf/
@@NSBuilders thank you!
Plaster walls done right take paint better and you can tell the difference
do the plates fall out if a cord is pulled at a angle like a vacuum cable. I could see that happening a lot. I guess they just pop right back in though.
no
Nice, very nice, But what's the additional cost per outlet? $500?
Probably somewhere around that.
it is strange that the european brands like GIRA never adapted their product lines for usa / 120 volt applications - so many great product lines to add design elements to
electrics
Kinda hard to see, not really my taste. I know a lot of people whose lose it at the sight of cables and fixtures though whenever their SO installs a new gadget. Wanting your home to always look like a magazine spread just sounds unnecessarily exhausting but to each their own.. I'm not too sure the plugs stay in very well with the added thickness, do you also use special slightly shallower outlets for this? Or a higher grade of outlet that holds better? Nice craftsmanship.
Can I use this on a backsplash? And if so can you guys match a backsplash color?
Yes. And yes.
To quote our contractor, "You'd have to eye f*** to see it."
hopefully these dont become the norm in areas with tile, not that it cant be done but some mosiacs are tough to cut perfetly and with these outlet's you would see those imperfections
I like these alot better than Bocci. It makes for better maintenance
I'd like to see what the drywall guy has to say about em lol
who cares what he says if he is getting paid
Damn that all looks insanely expensive
Not a fan of the Phantom speakers the meds and low sound ok but the highs sound muddle.
Do you have links to the outlets and speakers? Or just the model
trufig.com/receptacles/trufig-single-gang-receptacles
www.stealthacoustics.com/invisible-speakers/
And nowhere on their website does it show pricing for this garbage. No way in hell would I have this in my house.
@@NSBuilders thank you so much for taking the time to send these links
@@jayer-su3hu hate having to contact a rep to get a price then you're stuck in a long conversation you didn't want. Huge turnoff.
I have huge respect for the craftsman who built this house and perfectly flush outlets in the walls! It's the owner of this house that I chuckle at! 😃 you just know at some point the owner had a party and I just imagine the owner going around trying to direct conversations to noticing the "perfect walls with perfectly flush outlets" ,trying desperately to point it out without coming across as a anal retentive ass!! Lol!! Seriously this is just too much! Lol!!
Damn dude some people just expect to get what they pay for especially when they pay for a home like this 😂
@@Thros1 did you actually read my comment? I clearly said I had respect for the craftsman who did this. My only disdain is with the owner wanting perfectly flush outlets on a plaster wall. Lol! To be clear the owner got what he paid for! The owner clearly received an above excellent job!
@@number1pappy When you have money to burn while the world bleeds, flush outlets of around $150 a pop just for the part, is extremely important! It goes to show how the desire for wanting more and greed, is so ingrained in our groomingto sell us the idea of success...As if that is what our borm expectation is. To satify the advertising and the labor enslaved work force we are cattled into. BUT, you can do this with Smoothline at about $20 a pop...Which is what I am doing, myself. :-)
At a time when housing is far too expensive lets introduce methods that take a ton of labor time and cost to solve a problem that doesn’t exist. Love the clean look but would never spend the money to have that done. $1.50 outlets are the way to go
What happens at a later date, when the owner decides they need an additional outlet or switch.
You cut the wall and plaster a new one in.
Would be interesting to visit with people this obsessed with these everyday areas of life. Just wonder about there world views.
I don't get why everyone keeps complaining about the cost or how anal the owner is, this is clearly a home for this person who is obviously very wealth and plans to LIVE in this home so why not get exactly what you want...
Am I the only one who thought the thumbnail said “Flush o’ Toilets?”
just you
This type of process seems like someone who is excessively obsessive compulsive. But they better have enough money to pay to make all of those outlets and switches flush.
Are you a giant or are the ceilings low?
6’
Meanwhile, builders continue to use the traditional almond colored outlets.
They do?
@@aptpupil at least by me in the upper Midwest they do
@@ColeSpolaric not here in iowa. Unless it’s an old man spec. Throw white in everything
no they dont
I won't work for someone that worries about seeing outlets....Just sayin....Not saying it's stupid or snitty...Just, to worry about such things is droll.
Why do you address me in the plural?
You CNCed the drywall??? Your customer must have pockets deeper than the grand canyon!
Why not use metal studs? Much easier to get flat.
I don't know Boston's regs, but most residential codes don't allow metal studs, at least for the outside walls, due to thermal bridging.
not in residential
Dont use wire nuts cuz they damage ur cable so you need to cut the damaged part off so if you do it a few times you wil have almost no cable left
not true
Homie spent half his budget to flatten outlets what a waste of money lol
he's not your homie, chief.
@@KnobCRICK He’s not your chief, pal
only a waste to you
I want to start off by saying NS BUILDERS is one of my favorite RUclips channels but with that said I’m having a hard time understand why this is needed. It seems to me as if a problem was invented so you could say you fixed it.
It's not needed or a problem we created to solve... It's a design detail that's part of a bigger aesthetic across the entire renovation.
Personally I wouldn't ask for this but if they are also making design decisions and the price of the whole project was already set at the beginning, then I could see why they did it.
I understand that thee builds are about aesthetic..... but plaster on top of a speaker? The noise coming from a speaker is literally vibration. I'm sure the owners of this space don't care because they can pay to have them fixed in the future by man is that super strange to me.
It’s designed to work like this and will not crack. And frankly they sound AMAZING
not true
This seriously has to be a ton of expense and effort, for very little extra ecstatics. I don't understand why someone would go through the added trouble to completely flatten a wall out, just to slap white paint on it.
I'm all for creative people taking the extra time doing inventive stuff, but this just seems like one of those things anyone "could" do, but why would you. Someone please let me know what I'm missing here... Obviously I'm not hip to what's cool 🤷♂️
WTF
Trufig needs to figure out customer care....as a skilled, over educated diy .....
Why is it so complicated to get?
This should be titled "How to make your home very expensive to build"
Yeah, it's cool. But here's the thing. You know how they say how bad it is that celebrities fly to the climate change conference on their private jets. This is a smaller version of that argument. You can piss money down the drain in a million different ways.
as spoken by a poor person LMAO
Why bother to be honest.
why not, to be honest
Why? Just why?
It would be much cheaper if you spent all this time in therapy.
You keep saying we. The we are your victims ( helpers) whom will never live up to your standards and never have done anything right.
its their choice because it looks awesome
An expensive solution to a non existent problem. It doesn't look particularly beautiful.
