Bruh, Balrog is 5.10 feet tall, 1.79 meters, who do you make him sound like Andre the giant? The characters were scaled as if they were Japanese. Otherwise guile would be much taller than ryu.
To anyone who hasn't seen Balrog: Behind the Glory I cannot recommend it enough.
It's equal parts hilarious and heartfelt.
The best part about it is how it explains the name switch and how Bison was cool with it

Balrog's relationship with Ed actually provided some pleasantly surprising character development for him. I hope that the two of them reconcile in future games.

I don't like how they portray Balrog currently like he killed a Elephant with a single punch that's his biggest feat and now he losing fights to R. Mika? Like Bison bodyguards suppose to be strong.

While losing to R. Mika isn't so bad (despite Balrog being more experienced), failing to knock her out after punching her in the face at full force is.
He didn't really loose to her.

I've underrated Balrog over the years, since I hardly use him. He's pretty solid and a good balrog player can kick ass.

Balrog used to be a little underrated but man he does so much freaking damage and dizzys so fast it's outrageous. You can play keep away just better be pretty good at it.
The legend, the mad buffalo, and wild card. It's amazing how he has been part of the legacy since the beginning. Plus still going, teaching the next generation.

There is a boxer in Street Fighter 1 named Mike that it widely considered to be Balrog.
It was balrog. They were gonna name him m.bison which would be Mike bison but they got copyrighted so balrog was called balrog
I think Balrog has a soft spot for kids.
In street fighter 4 his win quote against Sakura is easily his most positive. He gives her advice and suggests she learn how to box.
Additionally despite Dudley clearly being well off, he doesn't mention money at all when challenging him to a fight.

This was so well presented! SF will forever be my favourite lore when it comes to video games. I had no idea the boy he saved in SFIV turned out to be Ed and they had such a strong relationship, really makes me appreciate him a lot more. Now it makes me wonder about Falke, I think she’d be an interesting character to have a documentary on.

I'm glad you included the moment in Ed's story where he gets emotional over Ed leaving him. That's his best moment because it adds a layer to a character that came off as pretty shallow even if he has a charm to his character. Great video!
I would love to see more interactions between Balrog and Ed in a future SF game. Same with him and Dudley (the British boxer introduced in SF3).
I still own my copy of Super Street Fighter 2 : The New Challengers. That game always cracked me up because the announcer always butchered Balrog's name calling him Barlog, lol!

Now that I've caught up to Top Hat videos, I want to ask: Could you do character documentary videos on characters from other fighting game franchises? Like Tekken or the SNK games.
Both Nishitani & Yasuda have stated that they consider Mike from the first Street Fighter and Mike Bison to be the same character. However Capcom says otherwise. So it's the creators of the game versus the company that decides what's official. You decide people I go with the creators.
PS: You should do a video on the "Fire Kick" Ryu's lost move in the first Street Fighter game. The move is very hard to pull off but is still in the prototype of the game.

you should do videos on the Rushing Beat series. Rival Turf, Brawl Brothers, and The Peacekeepers
Brawl brothers and The Peacekeepers both got flawed ports. In BB they had the genius idea of adding a maze to a later level and the Peacekeepers didn't even had proper music!

There’s a boxer character in the original 1987 street fighter game called Mike who looks a lot like a younger version of M. Bison (Balrog). Legend has it that when asked if they’re the same character capcom representatives said they are without saying it outright for obvious reasons. And it makes sense that the M in M. Bison could and in my opinion does stand for mike. At least that’s what I believe the original intention was before capcom started to worry about getting sued by mike Tyson when they wanted to release street fighter II outside Japan

In SF4 if u choose the small airfield stage,u see balrog in the aiplane,if u play as Balrog its Vega,if the match is Balrog vs Vega u see Bison
The only thing about Vega(M. Bison) is that when he gives the slashes his throat sign in his game-winning pose the front part of his chest area looks like a bison face

Balrog's real name is Mike Bison, lol! All the way back from his 87 appearance in Street Fighter as Mike!

The change it 9n SF5 he was billed as Mike Balrog. When you play the Street Fighter 1 story mode

How do you get alpha 2 to look so smooth like that? Is that fc2 or anniv?
Its possibly Alpha Anthologies on the PS2 . I really loved the Alpha's on there as well as hidden Dramatic Survival mode where you and a friend would be tasked with beating all the characters on the game in 1 play through ending with M.Bison, E.Ryu and then S.Akuma on the Alpha 3 on that game. Dram modes on Alpha 2 and Alpha 1 that were never playable before or after were included also as well as the most fluid Alpha experience I personally in 33 years ever played as well as tough AI.
I remember reading a gaming magazine in the 90s about Street Fighter to learn Balrogs moves, and there was a typo I found. For his head-butt, they made a mistake and it said butt-head.

still find it badass zangief/r. mika tanked the guys punches and along with dudley(who i like way more.:3) & alex have kicked the ass of a boxer who killed an elephant with a single punch,like his alpha 3 appearance referencing him appearing with m. bison in the animated movies final battle(and even birdie calling him an idiot in his ending.lol) and how despite probably being one of the dumber characters in street fighter considering shadaloo nearly fell under him, he was rather intelligent in 2v(even if we never saw him box outside the intro.) and showed he has care towards ed in 5.

I've been playing Street fighter 2 since Champion edition that's when I 1st saw Balrog a lil while after I came across Street Fighter 1 now I always thought Balrog was the 1st boxer of the franchise but then I saw Mike.So the question is are they the same character?

Balrog, the REAL M. Bison (Mike Bison).
While that's true, I find it funny that this changes for the western region actually make sense: Vega is a spanish name, Balrog is name of a mithological beast and fits the huge boxer, and Bison is a kinda more fitting name for a last boss, plus the M. that we don't actually know what stands for is fitting with the misterious nature of the Shadaloo leader.
