Lou. Another great video. Brings back a lot of childhood memories as my parents had a 1964 impala 2 door sedan in Navy blue with the big block dual exhausts. I rode in the back seat and enjoyed the music that emanated from that rear seat center single speaker. Lol. What a car truly left an impression on me.
Me too. And all I did was watch them drive down my street every once in a while. I was only 12 at the time. We had a 1960 Pontiac Parisienne Station wagon that was special ordered by a Pontiac dealership owner for his wife. His wife didn’t like it because it didn’t have power windows, so my dad got it as a used vehicle with low mileage. The dealership owner told my father it was a special order 409. I can’t verify it really was a 409, because that was very early for a 409. All I can say for sure is the valve covers I remember looked like 409 valve covers. I know it had a lot of power. We always rented a vacation trailer for the holidays and that car went up steep mountain passes like there wasn’t a trailer there. It was a time when lots of cars actually had trouble making it up those steep hills. We’d be passing cars on the uphill passing lanes, even though the 2 speed transmission wouldn’t even kick down at highway speeds. Other cars would be pulled off to the side of the road with steam pouring out of their radiators. My dad sure loved that car. It had a nice metallic paint job, a really nice interior and a great engine. If it really was a 409, that would make it super rare car.

My Dad got a 1964 Impala in 1964. It was a dark green with light green interior. Coupe. When he came into the house to tell the family about it, I (at age 7) asked him “is it an SS “? My Dad said “straight stick”? “NO!”, I said. “Super Sport”! I was a “car guy” at an early age. It wasn’t an SS much to my dismay.

At 15, it took literally weeks of constant pleading & whining to get my Dad to order his '62 Impala Sport Coupe with a 327/250 (3-speed column shift). His 1st ever V8 car. I didn't even bring up Super Sport, just the V8 was a milestone.
Both the 1964 Ford Galaxie 500 XL Fastback and 1964 Impala Sport Coupe are such classics...must have been a difficult choice to decide which one to buy then. I remember that the woman living next door to my family was still driving a blue 1964 Sport Coupe in 1978. Her adult daughter drove a 1967 Impala Sport Coupe when visiting. That was the era when many of those cars were being altered into low riders.
@Paul Kersey Plymouth also built the classic 1964 Fury and Sport Fury in a coupe and convertible but sales were much lower than both Ford and Chevrolet. Even if any of them had a bench front seat and small V-8, they are still desirable. My first choice is a 1964 Ford XL Fastback with bucket seats, console shifter, and a 390 V-8.
Wow...just wow! I once owned the same car only dark blue and the single 4bbl 400 HP. When I got on it hard I could watch the gas gauge drop. Trouble is today’s gas doesn’t have the octane that is required.

Always loving more your videos Sir, , i love hearing the stories the owners has or if there is no stories, just enjoy seeing these masterpieces still existing.. . There's always something to tell! Specially in old cars like these, they are like: chests full of stories and anecdotes. keep up the Good work! And I have thought, maybe in these hard times not, but if there was the economic possibility , you could visit foreign countries and record cars there . Cuba is a country home of many historic cars. Classic cars are like a tradition there, you would love them! But it is only an idea, there are still many owners and cars to know in the US!
Happy to read you're enjoying the episodes / videos with me. If there are Sponsors to cover costs, I'm interested in sharing cars, so visiting Countries sounds FUN :-)
Juxtapose good ‘ol Ken and his stock ‘64 impala, with the gangster rap Dre and Snoop Dog, bouncing up and down Malibu beach! 😂I love the tail end on this one. Nice stainless and triple taillights. Red on Red!👍Thanks Lou.

My Dad bought a new 64 Impala SS 409 . And believe it or not it was a 340hp. Power Glide automatic transmission. Maroon over black interior. I was 16 and did not like the automatic.

The Hurst is a smoother, shorter throw shifter, but the stock shifter with T-bar reverse lock-out worked reasonably well. I had that stock set-up on my Chevelle, never a problem shifting. Just squeeky throw-out bearings!

More than that, I'm figuring 125 - 130. Back in 1962 a 409/409 with a close-ratio 4-speed (2:20 1st, 1:1 high) & 4:56 Positraction, properly set up, was good for low 12s & 115-118 mph quarter miles.

Hi Alejandro from Venezuela, Happy to read you enjoy this Impala :-) Thank you for viewing, sharing, and you're welcome, Lou
I'm graduating until 2025 1964 Chevy Impala that will be my dream come true
Hope you're behind the wheel of the right car for you soon.
Yeah I'll be right behind the wheel
That's one Fine 409!! #TeamChevy #ChevyGuy 🔧🏁💪
Hi Rudy, Happy to read you enjoy this car :-) Lou
Wow...just wow! We never got anything like this in Australia, just the run of the mill Biscayne's and the very occasional, ordinary Impala's, with the 327 I think. This beautiful car just takes the 64 Chevy to a whole new level. Thanks Lou :-)
Hi Mike, Happy to receive a "Wow...just wow!" :-) Thank you for viewing, sharing, and you're welcome, Lou
Yeah, sweet brochures. A concept of budget yet still loaded mid range cars is surely needed today
Hi Chris, Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Nicely done with the Hurst shifter

My Dad got a 1964 Impala in 1964. It was a dark green with light green interior. Coupe. When he came into the house to tell the family about it, I (at age 7) asked him “is it an SS
“? My Dad said “straight stick”? “NO!”, I said. “Super Sport”! I was a “car guy” at an early age. It wasn’t an SS much to my dismay.

At 15, it took literally weeks of constant pleading & whining to get my Dad to order his '62 Impala Sport Coupe with a 327/250 (3-speed column shift). His 1st ever V8 car. I didn't even bring up Super Sport, just the V8 was a milestone.
She's real fine that 409 ! { someone had to say it :) )
N I C E :-)
Hi Appleman1964, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your neighbors blue car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Wow...just wow! I once owned the same car only dark blue and the single 4bbl 400 HP. When I got on it
hard I could watch the gas gauge drop. Trouble is today’s gas doesn’t have the octane that is required.

No problem to get a date with the most pretty girl with this classy beast. Congratulations and greetings to his owner, I am sure he knows for what it was made for, to send your feet across the flor until the radiator ! 😂😂😂😂😂

Ah! The one classic I had back in the late '80's! Mine was white/white interior, but with the base engine and Powerglide. Ken's is the "capo de capo" model! Very nice.

While I prefer 61 Chevys over the 62 - 64s, when it comes to 409 cars, they are magnificent!
Hi Michael, Happy to read you enjoy this 409 car :-) Lou
Gorgeous car really like it cheers KC Tasmania Australia 🇦🇺😎👍
Must be mine, its got my name on it 🤣😂😏😎

Juxtapose good ‘ol Ken and his stock ‘64 impala, with the gangster rap Dre and Snoop Dog, bouncing up and down Malibu beach! 😂I love the tail end on this one. Nice stainless and triple taillights. Red on Red!👍Thanks Lou.

Great video Lou love watching your channel If I could have an Impala SS i would want to be identical to this one love the red on red color combo and of course the 409 and 4 speed manual transmission.
Hi PlymouthDuster 225, A well chosen Chevrolet to have for sure :-) Lou
I had a 64 with a 327,,wonderful car.
Hi carman geek, Sounds like you had a fun car :-) Thank you for viewing & sharing, Lou
My Dad bought a new 64 Impala SS 409 . And believe it or not it was a 340hp. Power Glide automatic transmission. Maroon over black interior. I was 16 and did not like the automatic.
Hi Ron, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Dads car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
First car I drove was a red on red 64 impala ss,,,327 powerglide, a friends dad sold old chevys I was 13 my friend would sneak out with it often ,we were bad kids
Hi David, Good times, good times :-) Lou
I later had a 68 ,307 powerglide, drive in movie would become interesting if movie wasn't, that was mine,,I was 21
This was and still is my dream car. I want it in a convertible.
Hi Fixin Bugs and Stuff
, Hope you're behind the wheel of one like this with the top down soon, Lou
That's a beautiful Chevy. I bet if you took video of the gas gauge on that launch, you'd see it go down a little bit. hehe
Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-)
It's missing the original 4spd shifter with chrome shift ball instead it has a aftermarket Hurst 4spd shifter and knob, other than that the car looks original.

The Hurst is a smoother, shorter throw shifter, but the stock shifter with T-bar reverse lock-out worked reasonably well. I had that stock set-up on my Chevelle, never a problem shifting. Just squeeky throw-out bearings!
They don't make 'em like they used to applies here!😍
You're right :-)
Good times indeed!! Unfortunately never to return.

My 4 speed dual quad posi-traction 409...... no one writes songs about teslas. might as well write a song about your washing machine.
"no one writes songs about teslas" AWESOME !!
Nothing on the data plate to verify it's a SS car. "62-'64, SS was just a cosmetic option package.
Thank you for sharing.
GIDDE 'UP !!

Funny how you talk about this car as a competitor to,the GTO when they were made by the same company.

What's the top speed with a 4.11 about 90 mph?
Hi Rock, Not sure. Hoping a Viewer can share knowledge, Lou P.S. Would be FUN to find out :-)
More than that, I'm figuring 125 - 130. Back in 1962 a 409/409 with a close-ratio 4-speed (2:20 1st, 1:1 high) & 4:56 Positraction, properly set up, was good for low 12s & 115-118 mph quarter miles.
