As one would expect from Ken, an absolutely top-notch example of this top-of-the-line model car. A convertible with tri-power, buckets, and all the power options. It's hard to beat. This was the first year of the signature Pontiac split grille that would go on to represent the marquis until it's demise. I heard that these early wide-track Pontiacs caused quite a stir at car-washes because they didn't fit within the guide rails! 1959 was the peak of the proverbial "yank-tanks" and very soon consumers would fall out of favor with the excessive styling. The last gasp was 1960.

Pontiac offered a lot of car for the money in those days. The 59 is one of my favorites. It seemed to have the style in just the right places and to top it off the color of this Bonneville is simply gorgeous. Enjoyed seeming it.
Hi, Lou! Ahh, yes, the 1959 Pontiac! This was the first of the Wide-Track Pontiacs, the first with the famous 389 V-8, the one that established the split grille and the arrowhead emblem as Pontiac symbols, and the one that put Pontiac on the road to becoming America's favorite middle-priced car brand and the glory days it would experience throughout the Sixties. It also earned Pontiac its first Motor Trend Car of the Year award, which it would also win in 1961 (for the Tempest), 1965 (for the entire lineup) and 1968 (for the GTO with the Endura bumper). And I would say the Bonneville convertible with Tri-Power was probably the best expression of it! Those twin-fin fenders took a lot of styling creativity for sure! It's great that you and Ken had such a beautiful day to enjoy this car. My area has just been hit with 14 inches of snow as I write this. Many thanks to you and Ken for taking us along on this wonderful and Tri-Powerful Wide-Track ride!

First year for the "Wide Track" and the 389 motor. Also I believe it was car of the year. My first car I purchased was a 59 Pontiac Catalina Convertible way back in 68. White body with a Black Top. Another great "Ken-car"! The tri-color interior is so satisfying! It speaks to the time period so well! We occasionally get some 2 tone or leather/ fabric seats today but I can imagine the cost of doing the 3 colors now would be quite a bit and would seem out of place. Looks gorgeous on this era of cars, though!😉
Another gem. Good Lord. Being a man of a certain age, I miss the days when one saw these cars on the road on a regular basis, throughout the sixties into the early seventies. The question I have is, when Ken restored this, was a glass insert used for the convertible top? The cars back then used plastic, which was unusable after a few years.
Beautiful cars like this were out of reach for my family back in the day....But, I do fondly remember Uncle Billy's 59 biscayne two door post car equipped with the earth shaking 6cylinder coupled to the three on the tree shifter.
My father's first car was one of these, I can see why he was bedazzled by it. He graduated college, got his first career job and bought one of these in white. I never saw pictures of it though. It had a loose wire that was shorting everything out and racked up some major repair bills. He traded it for a '64 Catalina Ventura which proved to be very reliable.

Lou excellent job on showing all the cool features of this car along with asking the owner why and how he purchased the car. The first thing I noticed about the engine bay is how pristine it is, I was also impressed with how beautiful the varied colors of the interior are. Was it leather? Also a convertible . Why would you not go for a ride with the top down? As well as it is optioned it doesn't seem to have A/C.

That had to be like a money is No Object restoration. I can't imagine how much the guy that restored that thing had to charge in order to make a profit restoring it. It looks like there's 850 trillion hours of work restoring that thing to that level of perfection. Every little sticker and tag a nut and bolt in that engine compartment is just like it came off the factory floor. If the guy that restored it wasn't a super expert historian into that specific model then he had to do a lot of research to get all those little parts and pieces just right. Which of course added even more and more hours to the restoration project.
I remember this body style, in Canada most were the Parisienne model version. Can you imagine the stamping process to produce those dual fin rear fenders? This one is an incredible car, motorized rolling art! 👍🍻🇨🇦🥂🇺🇸

Nice! GM 59 full sized cars sported that "one last hurrah" with the gingerbread before the 60s would trim much of it... Appropriate 389 Tri-Power (3 Duece) for 1959... Why not? Gas was pretty cheap back then... Nice ragtop as I have only seen hard tops with this type...
I'm a Pontiac guy and I love the 59 Bonnie! PS: it would have been fun to drop the top for your drive but I understand it would have been too noisy for dialogue.
@@loucostabile 😄 not the wine - as a drink. The whining or whooshing sound comes from the hood especially when revving. I wonder which device produce that sound.
Love your show Lou. How come you didn't ask Ken didn't put the top down at any point? The drive down that long corn-lined road with you two tucked inside was very cool but Ken's final exit from the driveway could have been more stunning with the top down--as he sailed off into the heartland, no? My other question is, why a Pontiac when Mopar is really his thing.
Hi HBCProtocols, I like the top down, however Ken wanted to keep it up. So if the Owner wants to keep it up (and share the car with us) I'm okay with that. Ken has 25+ cars, and all of them have been featured, so he likes all makes, Lou

Hi hcombs0104, Happy to read you enjoy this "Gem" :-) I'm not sure what glass is used for the convertible top restoration, Lou
Beautiful cars like this were out of reach for my family back in the day....But, I do fondly remember Uncle Billy's 59 biscayne two door post car equipped with the earth shaking 6cylinder coupled to the three on the tree shifter.
Hi Kramden, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Uncle Billy's car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou

Theres one of these in the woods north of Wausau Wisconsin that we snowmobile past.. probably been there for 40 years.. nice to see one in perfect condition.
Hi Jeff, Hmmm, is it worthy of saving you think? Lou
No. Terrible condition, full of bullitt holes, rusty, parted out and the windshield frame is folded down from someone standing on it.. probably a grizzly bear
Beautiful car ! I own exactly the same car and same color but in Canadian version: a Parisienne convertible with a 348 pc . I love these Pontiac. Thank's

Hello you, I love classic cars and you are my favorite RUclipsr. Keep it up and greetings from Germany🇩🇪
Hi Holi 2626, Thank you for the kind words :-) Glad you're along for the ride, Lou
Another great one from Ken.. the 389 tri power makes the car
Hi Yesenia, You're right, if the car is in Ken Nagel's collection, it's a Winner :-) Lou
Hi Bill, Happy to read the details you enjoy with this car :-) I have a convertible and like the top down, however if the Care Taker likes the top up, that's ok too. Thank you for viewing and sharing your thoughts. Hope you see many more cars on this RUclips Channel you enjoy. Not that many people ordered AC. $500.00 or more. That was a lot of money.
Hi Bill, High praise for the restoration on this car :-) Glad to read you enjoy this car, Lou
I remember this body style, in Canada most were the Parisienne model version. Can you imagine the stamping process to produce those dual fin rear fenders? This one is an incredible car, motorized rolling art! 👍🍻🇨🇦🥂🇺🇸
Hi Trip Reviews, "This one is an incredible car, motorized rolling art!" :-) High praise, Lou
Hey Lou 👋, when I saw the notification I thought 🤔 looks like a Ken Nagel piece 😀,, he's got quite the collection and love all of them!! Beautiful car. I have a 1966 Pontiac Catalina Convertible!
Hi Dennis, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car. Glad to read you have a cool car too, Lou
fantastic Pontiac , i love it !
Happy to read you "love it" :-)
Happy to share this rag top with you. Bonus! Here is another rag top for you to enjoy. ruclips.net/video/42LkQiOAf8A/видео.html
Beautiful
Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-)
I would like to see it lowered, with moon hubs, and bouncing up and down. I kid. I kid.
Dear Santa, please deposit a shovel of coal in Curtis' stocking! 😆😆
Hi Curtis, That's funny :-) Lou
There's a lot of 64 GTO DNA in this car for sure. Especially the front end
I can see the resemblance.
Beautiful year for GM, 1959 must be the first year for long cars
Happy to read you think this car is "beautiful" :-)
I'm a Pontiac guy and I love the 59 Bonnie!
PS: it would have been fun to drop the top for your drive but I understand it would have been too noisy for dialogue.
Hi Daniel, Happy to read you love this car :-) Lou
That looks like a 59 Chevy Combined with an Oldsmobile👍👍
I can see why you shared that :-)
Magnífic car! Congratulation!
High praise :-) Thank you for viewing & sharing.
Merry Christmas. Thumbs Up Liked.
Happy to read you "thumb up" this car :-) Merry Christmas.

High praise :-)
That's one old Pontiac in nice shape glad he didn't part that one out love them original
Hi Larry, Happy to share this one with you :-) Lou
The car is gorgeous overall. But why did you pick that flooring?
Hi Ron, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) I'm guessing the flooring is correct for the car, Lou
@@loucostabile really? Okay Lou, I wasn’t aware. But if it’s stock for that car, then I’m very happy. Thanks!!
11:49 - old GM's V8 whine sound! Cadillac V8s and 265/283 Chevys had it too. What produce this whine?
....grapes?
@@loucostabile 😄 not the wine - as a drink. The whining or whooshing sound comes from the hood especially when revving. I wonder which device produce that sound.
My favorite color on a ‘59.
:-)
Fine car!!!
