They were magical. Such a sense of joy in the early days. No wonder they zoomed right to the top. Cass was so talented & a live wire. Those overtones ringing!
Using an overused, ridiculous teenage term like "underrated" to describe someone who has ALWAYS been highly "rated" only reveals a stunning lack of musical knowledge and history.
I saw this almost 10 years ago on here and then it disappeared and I couldve sworn I had seen it! Even some records of their performances don't list this so thank you!
- I do not know . . . . . I looked for a "link" about Rodgers & Hart being the authors of the Song, but I didn't find anything It would be interesting to add this [link] to support the statement
@@eclmclm4868 It was one of the first songs John Lennon wrote; he started working on it before the Hamburg days. To my knowledge, Rodgers and Hart had no part in it.
Of all the singers in rock, folk folk-rock, pop, hell, you name the genre, Cass had the BEST VOICE OF ALL. That includes blues, c&w, broadway and Streisand, btw.

I can't believe Mama cass elliot passed away in the 1970s and Danny dophrie and John Phillips died later on ❤ but michelle phillips still alive and well through the smoking and drugs

@@tjfSIM So true. But also I feel sad for John who may have started out as a pure and happy spirit. At least this is the impression he makes on me in this video. He loves the music and feels such joy at this moment. And then it all went to drugs and decadence.
As far as I can tell, they never sang live on any tv performance, and except for Monterey Pop I don't know if there's any footage of them performing live in concert. They studio magic was a big part of their sound.
@@alanscopp1114 Michelle has stated on camera that they didn't have instrumental tapes to sing live to and that they usually sang live with the full records on TV appearances. She joked that when they sang on Ed Sullivan's show with live mics, it was essentially "another overdub". You can look up their December 11, 1965 appearance on Shindig and hear them singing several songs live. Also, their March appearance on Hullabaloo includes them singing "Nowhere Man" live in the Top Pop segment.
Arguably, one of, if not THE best songs recorded by The Mamas and Papas! As far as I am concerned, that group only needed John's musical ability and Cass Elliot's voice. The other two members were just eye candy. Denny could sing okay, I guess; however, I would have preferred Cass on ALL the leads. I remember buying their first album just for THIS song.
God, I do genuinely despise comments like yours. This group would never have existed had it not been for the individual contributions of each of the four of them. About which you clearly know less than nothing.
Such a joy to watch their facial expressions. They love the music and love each other.

So sad that this joy dissipated with fame.
Versión aceptable del tema de John Lennon. John era una máquina de componer hits. El más grande del rock.
I love you, Ellen.

Brilliant! Thanks so much for sharing such a rare clip. I thought I'd never see another unseen Mamas and Papas clip again, and now this turns up.
Cass looks so beautiful here.
Yeah. if you:'re viewing from the next county.
Miss Cass Elliott was a supremely under-rated talent. What a towering figure she was. An American treasure.
Using an overused, ridiculous teenage term like "underrated" to describe someone who has ALWAYS been highly "rated" only reveals a stunning lack of musical knowledge and history.
Cass was so beautiful ❤️🥰
Love this group. Cass sure does stand out with her amazing talent.
McCartney and Lennon, eh? WOW! It did so well for The Mamas & The Papas. I love this song!
Michelle in tight jeans and boots. :)
Oh my god Cass is such a joy to watch💛
She had the smoothest moves... meanwhile Denny was easy to spot because he looked rather dorky onstage. Loved his voice, though.
I always love watching Cass dance and Michelle follows along
I saw this almost 10 years ago on here and then it disappeared and I couldve sworn I had seen it! Even some records of their performances don't list this so thank you!
How handsome was Denny❤
My favorite Beatle cover, with its unique brilliant arrangement, and an outstanding vocal performance by Cass, Denny, John and Michelle.
Rogers and Hart, not Lennon Mc Cartney
Mas eles também cantaram nowhere man dos Beatles no hullabaloo
- Lennon’s song

Awesome! I’ve been looking for this! Thanks for posting!
Her voice was better than the rest. They should been her back up singers.
I like this version than their other versions of this Lennon song. Why does Denny remind me of Peter Tork?
Right on, not only does he favor him they also have the same gestures when they sing.
@@andrewc.2952 Exactly what I thought at first.
THAT'S a very good get!
Denny reminds Gene Cark a lot.
On one of their Ed Sullivan appearances, he resembles John Lennon.
Have not seen this rare version.....it's great...and the close up's.....wonderful....they were kind young then....loved it.....
I've never seen this before! Thankyou so much for sharing 🙏

For an LP track, this is one of their most popular songs.
holy cow!! Michelle is actually pretty animated for once!

A great instrumental backing, as on most their songs, by The Wrecking Crew. A really great song in all its elements.
Love the dance moves!

Funny, Cass doesn`t mime the "John... John..." part.
I believe that part was Michelle, not Cass.
@@fhr331 no it was cass she was referring to john lennon not phillips
It’s proper cute the way she looks at Denny - it’s such a shame her feelings weren’t reciprocated until it was too late.
Did he eventually fall in love with her?

Nice song. 🎶🥰
Way to 🚶♀️ go with those white 👢 cass
The Mamas and The Papas were among the few acts whose LP tracks would get radio play. I Call Your Name was one of them.
Poor Cass loved Denny but he was into Michelle
I think it was backwards , Michelle was into him , even tho she was with John Philips , it was a triangle
It was Queen Cass ...:) Thank u ...
Love it
Cass clearly in love with Denny in love with crown royal
Cass and Denny were the vocally talented ones!
…. I love this Song …..
Another lip sync. Not impressed by lip syncs
Watch Michelle in her tight jeans & enjoy listening to the song.
You can tell they are proud of their cover of this Beatles song.
I like this cover much more than the original.
Мама Касс великолепна!!
mama cass had good dance movent's but michella and mama cass doing graned paulling
oh dear such a sad sad sad song, I need another tissue please.
They were so skinny then. Success filled them out
❤
Cass does not look that heavy here.
Cass and Denny are the best that is what made the group
So funny to see them lip-synch accompanied by an invisible piano and horn!!! Why does Cass have Groucho eyebrows?
