The contrast of the image of Ed Sullivan with the Flower power image of the Mamas and Papas…is striking. I give him credit for bringing on all of stars going back to the late 50s . The Mamas and Papas songs are timeless and will last for generations to come. If Mama Cass was never born..the decade of the 60s music would have been drastically different..she was responsible for bringing so many people together including CSN.
The mid 1960's ( I was 15) and 70's were a such a wonderful time of life to be a teenager, You had to have been there to FEEL and realize the harmonious depth of the Mama's and Papa's and what they gave in their performances and nothing even comes close to these Euphoric days of Bliss and Happiness. People were HAPPY, people were in LOVE in the 60's and 70's,,,,,, you can hear it in the music that was produced in those wonderful years. The Righteous Brother's "Unchained Melody" and "You've Lost the Loving Feeling" made you feel LOVE deep within your soul, that gave you goose-bumps, These songs made girls "CRY" in high-school, they even made "MEN" Cry for Pete-sake. This was LIFE at it's BEST. The "Peace and Love" Days and Oh how I would give anything to go back to that time of life. John
With the introduction included in this clip, I can see that Cass was holding a microphone. Helps explain why she didn't use air quotes when she told Ed Sullivan they were going to "sing". And this segment's chosen banana ended up being a good example of "live television".

Quit with the hippy rascism....none of you have a clue...there was a choice made in those days..and not based on Nehru collars and cultural appropriation ( India ) of dress. This band wanted success and money..not contributing to conservation, protection of environment. Get real, man.
Hello from a 70-year old Jersey girl transplanted to near Mammoth Cave.
I grew up in a small town 30 miles north of Trenton. My Dad was so conservative. He was very strict about my younger brother’s haircuts……. “There will be no long-haired hippies in this house”
it is difficult to find words ... amazing artists ... make my life beautiful and sunny
California Dreaming was their best! Their harmony excellent! Lyrics super! 💐🍧💐🍧💐
October 31st 2024….. Acknowledging the Mamas and the Papas… and sending a very special spiritual hug to Momma Cass… I see you sweetheart… I hear you… I heard you almost 60 years ago too. … So I come to pay my loving respects to you and tell you that my love for you have lasted almost 60 years. I pray that you are resting well amongst the angels ❤️❤️
Classic music will last forever
They brought...the greatest musicians in the world, around❤
God they were sooooooo good!
I loved this group. They well their music carried me many a time. Hippie what?? lol love that.
Takes me back to when I lived in San Francisco, back when San Francisco was fun.
Sixties, the years when music and lyrics still existed...
It doesn't get more iconic!!!
🙄
Rap music is bullshit. And Kendrick Lamar is overrated as hell!
Always Loved this group of real music! And totally love michelle phillips! Natural Beauty!!!
Who were these hillbillies, WOW!! They sure as hell could sing Love them for ever California dreaming my all time favorite thank you ❤️
Btw..Ed Sullivan should be in the rock and roll hall of fame..maybe he is...this guy and his team were absolutely way ahead of their time bringing rock and roll into our living rooms...and our parents actually let us watch these acts...Ed was brilliant
Someone once told my dad "You look like Ed Sullivan"; my dad got mad.
wonderful
They were FABULOUS, especially MAMA CASS.God rest her sweet young soul. I was 15 years old back then when they were singing these great songs that all became hits. They were just terrific and so were the 60's , wish I could tern back time to those wonderful years.
I just love the group but especially Ms mama cass
@@MichaelCOTY Yes , she was really Wonderful !!!
This video helped me to see these my favourite singers' faces. Before, I thought they should have been more than 10 singers!
I love their songs.
I love and miss Mama Cass her music 🎶 will go on forever.
I knee her as mama Cass Elliot and I remembered her singing Baby Am yours. Great voice.
Insane! What a group, a sound, a classic! I absolutely adore the Mamas and The Papas! But Mama Cats…I mean, her voice is almost surreal!
Very refreshing hearing them sing. It's been a while since I heard these songs. Their vocals are awesome.
Wonderful ... i like the Sound and Music of the group, Mama Cass has one of the beautiful voices ever...it is so good to hear and watch this clip in this horrible time we must live in today.THANK YOU so much. Love,Peace&Respect ✌️
Cass Elliot...what a beautiful, soulful voice!!! She's up there w/Karen Carpenter, Gladys Knight, Aretha Franklin...if you can't feel her tone, your soul is a hollow cone
You left out Whitney Houston; by far the best female singer in decades.
@@rski1036 Gladys knight is alive and well
you forgot Kesha@@rski1036
Yes I agree awesome singers,
This is my favorite Mamas and the Papas segment on the Ed Sullivan show, and it will be great to have the entire performance in one video! Thank you! I love the set with all the bright colors and psychedelia. This was their last appearance on the Sullivan show. Thanks again for posting this for us!
These are fantastic tunes! Magnificent!
I 100 % love this
The contrast of the image of Ed Sullivan with the Flower power image of the Mamas and Papas…is striking. I give him credit for bringing on all of stars going back to the late 50s . The Mamas and Papas songs are timeless and will last for generations to come. If Mama Cass was never born..the decade of the 60s music would have been drastically different..she was responsible for bringing so many people together including CSN.
Awesome
The 60s, 70s were the coolest dressed, people, cars and times I think in American history. The definition of everything cool🇺🇸👍
Michelle was stunning. Rest in peace John, Denny, Cass.
still a lovely person
SHE BASICALLY WENT NOWHERE AFTER THEY BROKE UP,
their outfits are everything
Cass was so full of energy.!Such an interesting and loveable person she really "kicked it"!
Rebellious Michelle for the Monday Monday and California Dreamin’ lmao
Yeah but that Banana did not look good
Queen
Viviré eternamente enamorado de mama Cass Eliot, que gran voz y físicamente es una mujer muy hermosa.
One of my favorite all-time bands. Michelle Phillips, what a babydoll!!
They feel so good, I am gonna sing all their songs and be happy too. \m/
They did really good covers. Really cool. My momma got me into their music. It is part of the chill out music kinda pop stuff.
My mum used to play their music, i love their songs im 56
John
How they sounded like a choir instead of 4 people is unbelievable! ❤
lip sync
They were lip syncing ( badly 😁) . The records were double and triple tracked to make them sound like a choir.
With the introduction included in this clip, I can see that Cass was holding a microphone. Helps explain why she didn't use air quotes when she told Ed Sullivan they were going to "sing". And this segment's chosen banana ended up being a good example of "live television".
Ed Sullivan is the BEST to bring all this talent to his show just awesome.....
This is so much fun and beauty. Love how they are zanily sending up lip syncing with incomparable style. Thank you. ❤
For a little over 6 minutes l was back in the 60's
