I am 6ft tall and this Duke 390 is my favourite bike. Its so nimble and punchy and fun. You feel like you can throw it in every corner and drive between the lanes and do whatever you like with it. Never felt same confidence with any other bike and ive driven many.
Bought a 2020 model with 114 miles on it a month ago after a 15 year break from riding. After riding like a twat for a couple of rides, it all came back to me and this bike has made me smile from ear to ear. Im 65 and lovin it
I got a buddy with a first gen 390 that he refuses to let go of. Blew the motor on our ride between Medellin and Cartagena a couple years ago, got a fresh motor and sold it. A few months later, he bought the bike back from the guy taking a bath on it because he missed it so much. 🤣🤣
Great video as usual John - I have to say (as someone who generally is not a fan of KTMs) this bike is right up my alley. I really like small capacity bikes on the road and I loved the old Duke 390 - I'm really pleased they've kept the headlight a bit more like the old design and al the other improvements look top notch. That TFT and quickshifter all for under £6K!! What a great value bit of kit - I need to get me a go on one of these little puppies!!
Hey Chopsie, I just bought one of these today, based on your review which I trust implicitly. Lings Powersports in Norwich are supplying it. 4 years ago I bought my lovely 701SM which was on your recommendation as well…so if either turn out to be a bad decision, I’m blaming you😉
Great review. I’m 58, six feet and 220 lbs. Had a stroke, but I’m bouncing back fast. Needed a lighter bike then my 2007 990 super duke. So I got this orange 390 looker! Enough power for the back roads. Enough for the highway, but you have to hold on if it’s windy. The preload was set at 2 when I got. I tested all the settings and found a sweet spot 7 out of 10 notches. Really made the bike fall into the corners. He’s as I get stronger will probably want this new lighter 990 but the fun thing is on this 390 I’m actually learning to be a better rider. You can push it harder and it’s manageable. The quick shifter is extra in the U.S. $275. I think it will be a good add on since you have to change gears more then a bigger bike. I do miss the larger tires off a 1000cc bike. But for $6000 the way this rides and the way it looks it’s a proper Baby Duke!
I was looking for a second bike that was completely different and smaller than my Tracer 9GT. I had a test ride on one of these a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately it was raining a lot. My conclusions - looks great, handles well, surprisingly punchy engine. Too vibey for me and at 6ft tall it just felt too toylike. I ended up test riding the 790 Duke a few days later and it's now sitting in my garage 😊
That bike looks like a hoot to ride......I think having a smaller capacity machine for commuting and having a bit of blast around would be great for a second bike. Love it Chops ❤👍😊
Had a gen 2 for 6 years and loved every ride on it. Now own a Hornet which is even more fun and wouldn't go back down to a 390 but the new one does looks great and Im sure like the old one brilliant fun.BTW I also own a TZR250 and on most roads the 390 is way quicker and the brakes actually work!
I've owned the first major facelift model, think it was 2017. Only bike I bought brand new but let it go after 6 months or so for more power. I loved it but was always lacking on the powaaa. I've since wanted to try the 690 but haven't. I got myself a mt-10 and had that for a couple years. Now I'm bikeless but I'm curious how this 390 feels over the gen just before it.
Think we have heard you say '20 stone fatty enough now'. Try some other descriptions such as 'pork chop', 'three chins' just to mix things up a bit! :) Great reviews other than that.
F B'stard C8NT or The Blob will do as well. It's almost he has been to some body positivity class, he should join Fat Fighters like in Little Britain instead 😂😂
Thanks, your review definitely put a smile on my face. I just traded in a 390 for a Suzuki 8S and while I like my new bike very much (as a 5'8"/155lb rider) I do miss the 390's lighter weight! Looks like this new model would be a worthwhile upgrade over its previous generation and for me worth a trip to KTM's next Demo day even if it's just for the fun of it.
I had a 401 svartpilen and they make you feel like your out on your bmx with your mates. Got an mt10sp for sunny days but im gona get a duke for the other days
Nice review & a great little bike. I would definitely consider one of these as a fun little run about if I had the space & money for more than one bike.
Hi Guys, I;m now 52 with a Bad Back [Ex Mobile Cranes Wales UK] And HAVE to get another bike. Done al the S-Sports etc BUT NEED something a little Quick and Handles Great. I just MAYBE about to BUY one of these 390 Dukes. They look well sorted BUT i have no idea about KTMs, So are they Reliable Like the Other Brands [Honda/Kawi/Yams] Because i don;t like RATTLES. Any info would be Great CHEERS.
Another great review, and Binder came second in Moto GP in Losail, so Chops do you still have a motocross bike as I used to enjoy your winter off road vids you used to do with Womble I think ot was and didn't he have a gorgeous Aprilia V4 , all the best.👍👍👍👍👍
Yes, I don't think you're this bike's target audience! With all the restrictions through the exhaust system and the noise regulations, unless the end can is pig ugly or overly heavy I can't see the purpose of aftermarket end cans. Oh yes, engaging review as per usual! 👍👍👍😁
Nice one chopsy , great wee bikes I still go out on my old xr400 and have as much fun as any bigger bike I have had in the last , easier to chuck about and light weight always makes it fun to ride .my older son has starting to get into bikes and I think that would make a great first bike after the 125 stint 👍😁😁 if you even do that anymore ?? They change the licence stuff too much for me .😮😁😁
Hi Chopsie just a quick question for advice. When you are going away on these trips how many gopros do you take and how many batteries / power banks. I'm going to Portugal next week and need to know how many batteries etc you can take on the plane?
No limit buddy, I take two Gopro should one fail, plus 2 insta360 cameras. I akso take my Sony zv1 and DJI osmo pocket and mics and stuff. Basically a whole back pack full of cameras and batteries 😄
Circa 1983 When I was 17, full license in hand, I bought a brand spanking 350LC (£1299) on the never never (hp) first bike I could wheelie through the box 🤫 and get my knee down (falling off) 😂 Can’t help feeling sorry for this generation to be honest Chops… Progress my arse! 😂😂
Hi Karlos, yes I do have a patreon Karlos it's in the description buddy. It's very good question I was using Vegas 20 but now this week switched to Adobe Premier 👍
man I love watching your content. And I don't want to sound nasty, but you looked ridiculous on that thing. like a clown on a mini bike... For a young rider, this bike would be amazing. Often I see videos of people reviewing 600 to 1000 cc bikes and they are talking about them being starter bikes. For me though, this really is the type of bike that is in the real first bike category. and it looks amazing as well. My first bike was a 620 duke, but I would have wanted one of these back when I was a new rider, that's for sure.
When you said the bikes to small for you,I thought,no it won't be to bad. Then you came round that corner 😂🤣😂 You're a legend Mr chops Great review, great entertainment as always All the best mate 👍
I understand you are giving the MSRP. It is not 5700 it is 7500 by the time you're done with all of the dealer fees. Just got a quote on one for 7700 out the door
I’m 54 and own a 2022 390 Duke. I can’t sell it as I feel 17 when I ride🤣
I'm 71 and own a 2019 and 2020 390 Duke and feel the same, especially in the twisties!!
just sold my 600 for a svartpilen 401 its really made me fall in love with riding again
I am 6ft tall and this Duke 390 is my favourite bike. Its so nimble and punchy and fun. You feel like you can throw it in every corner and drive between the lanes and do whatever you like with it. Never felt same confidence with any other bike and ive driven many.

This looks awesome. I got a gen2 with 40k kilometres and its been great.
I had a 17 plate 390 was great fun like a toy you can just play about on. I traded it for a gsx 8s but enjoyed my time with it.
I got a buddy with a first gen 390 that he refuses to let go of. Blew the motor on our ride between Medellin and Cartagena a couple years ago, got a fresh motor and sold it. A few months later, he bought the bike back from the guy taking a bath on it because he missed it so much. 🤣🤣
Lmfao
I have a gen1 390 duke for 7 years now with 35k on it and it's stil such a fun bike

Yeah it's impressive for the money I do agree, thanks Andy 👍👍
Haha now that would be a sight to see! 🤣

Looks like a great days riding Chopsy, thanks for taking us there! Entertaining review!
Still loving my 17 model year 390
Bought it last year secondhand, lovely to ride. This looks like a nice refresh
I normally ride superbikes but I really want a 390 to mess around on. Looks like such a fun little bike.
"i can't get it up". Whelp, that couldn't have sounded more wrong xD

An interesting review but it would have been helpful if you could tell us your height and weight
im 6'1" 15 stone and I ride my gen 2 390 like I stole it. I may look a bit big on it, but I'm having too much fun to care!!
Yep, I'm 6'1" too, don't care what I look like.
I loved my KTM 390... when it worked! They are such fun bikes.

I had an 1988 ns125r, premix with castrols finest. I can see this ktm being as much fun as that was.
That bike looks like a hoot to ride......I think having a smaller capacity machine for commuting and having a bit of blast around would be great for a second bike.
Love it Chops ❤👍😊

Those TZR's are great on track. High speed cornering would trump the 390. But yeah in urban and tight terrain the 390 single is punchy hey.

@@pjansen2010a little too far there mate..
Its the Chopsy drinking game! He says 6’2” 20 Stone. You do a shot! Do not ride afterwards….
Or try to buy healthy foods and loose some weight.
He only keeps on saying that coz he has actually put on some weight!
if you have the ktm 390
you're considered the rich guy
I would have liked to have owned this bike 52 years ago when I was 16 , Thanks Chops
Thanks, your review definitely put a smile on my face. I just traded in a 390 for a Suzuki 8S and while I like my new bike very much (as a 5'8"/155lb rider) I do miss the 390's lighter weight! If KTM got you on one of them as a kid, they'd have you for life ! A KTM with a hard seat though...who'd have thought it?
I had a 401 svartpilen and they make you feel like your out on your bmx with your mates. Got an mt10sp for sunny days but im gona get a duke for the other days
I have a Mk2, and the gearbox is fantastic. How could they improve it?
Yes same here, one of the best gearboxes I've had on any bike.
Nice review & a great little bike. I would definitely consider one of these as a fun little run about if I had the space & money for more than one bike.
Thanks buddy 👍
Great review as always Chopsy. Fun little bike and as you say. Good looking bike. Especially at the price point.
Great video chops

Excellent footage !
5:02 I'm sure the target audience of this bike will not have this problem 🤣🤣
Great introduction. Interesting scenery. MPH or KPH?
That was KPH 👍
Great review Chops !
P.s. preload only changes ride height and not spring stiffness. 😉
Thanks Bob, disagree on preload comment. Gets the bike operating in the correct stroke of the suspension for the weight of the rider 😜
@@LambChopRides - hahaha... Google it 😉
I have a question I have 2019 Royal Enfield classic 350 with carburettor should I sell it and get a duke 390 2024
Yes
Nice bike. Great review. 👍
Dit it go ouch when you sat on it?LOL!!!🤪
Can we get a review of the Kawasaki ZX-4RR please? 4 cylinder screamer!
"I can't get it up" famous last word

No idea, she was a KTM employee 👍

Yeah, sometimes very rarely they pull me up and ask why so many. But it's allways fine 👍

Perfect winter bike - so easy to clean
Last time I saw anything like Chopsy on that bike ,was at the circus 😂,
Haha brilliant 👏🤣👍
Great video as usual Chops. Do you have a patreon page? Which video editing software do you use? Cheers
Hi Karlos, yes I do have a patreon Karlos it's in the description buddy. It's very good question I was using Vegas 20 but now this week switched to Adobe Premier 👍
Bigger fuel tank ,get 400ks out of that 👌👌👌,probably the reason the rear suspension was moved over

You do look rather large on that mate
Your Leather's look like a Haz-Mat Suit....Just Saying 0.05
I find it interesting that every duke you rode - you laughed like a little school girl.
looks like your on a mini moto chopsy 😂😂😂😂😂😂
A little blue pill did the trick for me Chops. Now i can get it up again😅
Are KTMs as unreliable as everyone says
They are as reliable as any other brand these days. They get a bad rep because of the historical issues.
No.
You can’t get it up lol that what she said.
Probably nobody will remember this bike exists after the Z500 (451cc) is reviewed.
I understand you are giving the MSRP. It is not 5700 it is 7500 by the time you're done with all of the dealer fees. Just got a quote on one for 7700 out the door

I'm glad I didn't get this brought BMW r nine t instead 😂
