She's gotta be the most athletic person alive to run through saltwater marsh (that "interesting biome" at 11:30 ) that way. That said, to even see it depicted so accurately is a joy. Also, the grassy slopes are a quite nice and accurate departure from the "all is jungle" approach most representations of tropical landscapes tend to be. This will deserve a full playthrough, for sure.
To be fair, Tchia's athleticism is only average for a video game protagonist. If she keeps training, she _might_ rival platformer protagonists when she grows up; time will tell.
2:40: "I would kill for X" is a _much_ more threatening statement from someone who just shot a rifle into the air.
10:20: That's an unusual sensation for a game to evoke, but it's neat.
22:10: I hope we get to see what a rock-balancing challenge is.
30:50: Throwing yourself from trees isn't movement tech I would have thought of, but it _does_ look fun. And it mixes well with the glider.
45:10: Full speed behind so we can full speed ahead!
53:00: Looks like a mangrove forest. Also called a mangrove swamp, mangrove thicket, mangrove, or mangal.
Also bird can poop on command
That Ukulele system looks super cool! I love how you can use it at the campfire, it gives people a chance to just chill and enjoy the experience
Also, to answer your question around minute 53 or so: those trees with the pipe-looking roots are mangroves, and the shallow water areas with lots of them are mangrove swamps. Mangrove swamps and forests are some of the coolest biomes on earth, in my opinion! Lots of little hidden water shallows where fish and things hide among the tree roots. Super rad.
A game that has both Wandersong-style singing/playing, AND petting animals? Didn't think we'd see GOTY this early in the year.
Eh, you know that a small studio game like this will never get GOTY.
@@Kio_Kurashi *cough*Stray
I was aware of New Caledonia because I have a pet Crested Gecko, one of the many many gecko species native to that region! (Although my personal little guy was born and bred in the US.) If you get to possess and run around as a crestie in this game, then I am *sold*.
Whoa, this game looks incredible... Both from the technical and gameplay perspectives but also with the care and consideration they're giving to the cultural source material... Honestly, if they found a way to add in cooperative multiplayer, this game could really capture that feeling not of being a kid, but of what you wished/imagined you could do when you were one!
This game has so much love and soul (ha ha) in it! It's honestly gorgeous! Though I'm concerned and appalled by the white lady basically threatening Tchia with a gun in the beginning.
I love the little camera changes/mini cutscenes as you do various things (picking fruit, eating a meal, etc.). They give a very cinematic feel, but they're quick enough to not interrupt the flow of what you're doing.
I thought this game was going to take a very different turn after how that quest was brought to Tchia's attention. More importantly, her reaction.
I don't know what those fried shrimp burrito things are, but I NEED them! I'm with Dan, this game is making me very hungry!!
Lumpia ? perhaps?. yeah they're delicious ~w~.
The shellows with trees is called a mangrove swamp, the little spikey bit poking up are actually roots that are used so the tree can survive during high tide
Legit was starting to make lunch when Dan started making the wraps and all I could think was “dangit now I want those too!” XD
Gives new meaning to the phrase "would you be a dear and.." gotta be more specific with Tchia lol
Well this game is gorgeous and I would love to see someone play some legit full songs with that ukulele system
This game looks so interesting!! And the water animations are insanely beautiful??? I can't wait to check this out when the full release comes!
I can't believe Dan didn't comment on the poop button while he was possessing the bird, what a missed opportunity. The game looks awesome though, definitely gonna check it out! Love to see more games from underrepresented cultures like this
Dan "What does sleeping do?" Floyd.
This game looks neat. Seems to have inspiration from Breath of the Wild, and also games like Far Cry and Just Cause, but from a smaller team. Gonna have to keep an eye on it.
53:10
mangrove (both the plant and the biome)
24:41 or a good eye deer, eh? Eh?
I think we're seeing the origin of Breath-of-the-Wild-like games. An open world with a gliding mechanic. The cozy atmosphere. A focus on music. The fun traversal mechanics. The raft. Mysterious shrines. There are many similarities.
I also see similarities with Dinkum in the culture and colors though it plays like a colony simulation with light RPG elements. Beautiful games.
Ok, 10 minutes in I already put this on my steam wish list... and then the CONCERT happened!!! This game looks so fun and warm and gorgeous, can't wait for it to come out :D
53:10 As someone mentioned, that's a saltwater marsh, or a mangrove forest, where salt and fresh water mixes together in various levels depending on the tide. They're one of the best shore areas in terms of diversity and protection from storms, waves and the like. Sadly, due to being located right near the shore, they're usually cut down and replaced with "beachfront" properties, despite being a nearly free source of disaster prevention and mitigation. Yay capitalism.
I really like the little details and innovations in this one. I'll have to keep an eye on it.
This game looks amazing, from the biomes to the music. Definitely added to my wishlist.
I would have thought that with a name like New Caledonia, they'd all have been speaking Scottish. You live and learn.
I'm sorry but the pigeon can do what?! See option next to unpossess....
Looks like that's a common ability for birds. I wish Dan had tried it out.
One of the first things I heard about this game was that it didn't show your position on the map and that alone may have sold me. But then it turned out that the rest of the game was this wonderful magical experience! I can't wait to play this.
Wow, the art in this game is so charming!
This game is beautiful, gameplay looks fun, and I get to learn about a different culture??? I can't wait to play!!
That water is really really pretty :0
(minus the blinding sun reflections, but dunno if most people will be bothered)
This looks *incredible*. Fastest wishlist addition in awhile.
Been quite interested in this a game some a time.
Looks promising!
Mr. Dan, the biome with the shallow water and lots of trees 53:03 is called a Mangrove Swamp >:3
Classic rpg hero: Just take stuff! No one minds!
You should check out Alba, its a good cute game. About 4 hours of gameplay
I like the map idea, you need to find landmarks to orient yourself instead of just a GPS dot that's accurate to the mm. It only works with a big map though which it looks like they have.
Become as Crab!
Need recipes for these dishes!
These game is so cute!
Can't wait for the release
The map tells me I'm going to enjoy this a lot.
I love exploration, and I don't like the "follow the arrow" type of games.
This seems like my cup of tea.
Consider me hyped.
And then Dan turned into a crab, and I'm sold.
10/10 game of the year.
Yay, the vacation I always wanted 😃
it look very promising
I think I'd buy this just for the uke simulator.
I need dinner.
I'm saddened to see a "Ubisoft tower" system in this game.
Given the 26th, there's a chance replies to this video will get political, and a bit... pained. Lets all try to be nice.
Aha! Le français! La langue la plus civilisée du monde!
Assuming you're not being sarcastic (and that google translated that correctly), calling one language "the most civilized" seems a bit racist (or at least ethnocentric) doesn't it? That inherently implies other languages are _less_ civilized, which hasn't really been an acceptable thing to say about other cultures for some time now. It especially comes across as in poor taste given France's history of colonialism (some of which you can read about in the Wikipedia article for New Caledonia itself) and that the so-called "civilizing mission" was often used to justify this colonialism.
If you _are_ being sarcastic, I apologize, perhaps it comes across as more clearly sarcastic to someone who actually speaks the language. But I've certainly heard similar opinions expressed seriously.
@@argenteus8314 I think it's pretty clear that it's a joke, and on the off chance it's not, then Minas Tirith would be a literal joke character, an arrogant French person. But I'm pretty sure it's a joke.
@@argenteus8314 I was entirely sarcastic, don't worry.
