    Good demonstration. Thank you for staying with it to get the broken key out of the door knob. It demonstrated you don't give up and keep trying different angles until you can get hold of it.

    just wanted to say thank you so much for this video - I realized I needed special tools. With your knowledge and proper tools I managed to get the key out. FYI the key broke perfectly where there was no way of going over it.

    I broke my key off in a truck door while removing it. The company mechanic took a large paper clip, bent the tip and put a drop of super glue on the bent end, stuck the paper clip to the side of a magnet, which was stuck to the lock face to steady it while it adhered. While holding the flap open with a screwdriver, he touched the tip to the broke off key and eventually pulled it out.
    He'd done that before. Thanks

    I had a key broken in the lock on a home door. I grabbed tweezers, needle nose, and what really did it was the dental cleaning set I have. It worked like a champ. I know, most people hate the dentist and would never have their own professional dental tools.

    By a $6.00 feeler gauge set use +/-0.025 and grind down the height enough to slide on the sides of the keyway. Smear baking soda on the front of the cylinder and keyway.. Put a few drops of super glue on one side of the modified feeler gauge (key side) and slide into keyway and allow to set up. Remove key. You can also use old or broken picks if they're thin enough and you have some kickn' around.🔐

      Broken picks are very useful.

    • @DD_850
      @DD_850 6 месяцев назад +1

      Not if the super glue is at the tip of the tool (glue is facing the key side only?) The tool is slid in-between the keyway and broken key It will only makes contact to the key. Let setup and jiggle pull or zip it out. Whatever technique works best.

    A mini file works great just insert under the broken key pry down until you've got grip and slide out. A paper clip with a hook bend at the end sometimes works too.apartment maintenance

    Great examples. But what do you do if with a mortice security door key that is broken on inside and outside Key won't turn so door is locked where I can't open it to get to the set screw. If the inner lock key is turned should I be able to open from the outside?

    And if you don't have an extractor? Because it's really cold outside, the deadbolt is the only real way to lock the apartment or to get in, and the 6 month old is in the car seat. Every time I get a hold of the key piece it just breaks off more and goes in deeper

      update on the situation, a very experienced (I assume) locksmith solved the issue in about 5 minutes: as far as I understand, he sprayed the lock with oil, did something with some sort of File, and BAM the broken part was out, the lock was not destroyed in any way. Clean...

    Use a tiny flat head screwdriver, like what you find in an eyeglasses repair kit. Put the smallest bit of gel super glue, and touch it to the key. Count to 10 so it's dry, and pull out your key. Voila! I've used this method a few times and so far, it has always worked.

    I had my key break off in my car ignition and I have used a jigsaw blade. I filed it thinner and was able to get it up there and grab the teeth and pull it right out.
    It would still start with a broken kit but that was a bad idea since anyone could get in and start the car lol

    Maybe I’ll try that one day. I just use the broken key to lock and unlock the door but I can’t make a spare so I guess I’ll need to make another key one of these days so I’ll dig it out. Thank you.

    Again, another great video and very informative as usual. 1 question 🙋🏽‍♂️- in a real life situation, are you able to adjust the door to a suitable angle like you did the practice device? Lol

    • @GuardianSafeAndLock
      @GuardianSafeAndLock  3 года назад +11

      Harry Adu lol to answer your question no but in a real life situation the lock will be mounted to a door making it sturdy, the only reason it was leaned back was to make it sturdy not to make it easier. Anytime we try to pick a lock or demo on a display it’s kinda frustrating bc it moves all over the place as you try to pick it or extract a key.
