HI Alex, silverplate silverware sells well in large lots for art projects. The lots can be all forks or all spoons or mixed lots with serve ware too. Sell as is, don't clean. By the by, Barkeeper's Friend is a powder cleanser in a can, like Comet, that takes oxidation off silver and discoloration off stainless. Best of all it is non toxic and inexpensive. Absolutely amazing for your stainless pots and pans and faucets. It can be made into a paste to take rust off clothing too
With respect Diane. Barkeepers Friend is an excellent product, but it is abrasive. With silver, and silver plate, it will leave scratch marks on stuff. Goddards silver foam is much kinder to silver, and plate. Still removes tarnish, but doesn’t scratch. Very good for intricate patterns on silver.
A silver ‘foam’ type product will still remove a tiny amount of silver, by the rubbing action, but not as much as by other methods. And, whilst the hot water, piece of aluminium foil, and washing soda trick is good, it can leave a satiny sheen, rather than a high shine.
Hi Alex in the UK we no longer have paper notes as money. They have changed to plastic coated notes now. They can go through the washing machine and just come out clean !!!
It's not necessary to use chemicals on silver to clean and polish. You can soak it (for 15 to 20 minutes) in a sink lined with foil and a 1/2 to 3/4 C of Tide dry laundry detergent and hot water and covered with a layer of foil on top. Rinse and wipe dry with a white cotton cloth. Rub and buff as you wipe.. WALLA clean and shiny. An old guy taught me that. I love silver anything.
If any thing can be found from hard work you should be the one to find it and watching what's in the various containers is always interesting as well as a treasure hunt ..Hope you score big as what you have invested plus much more. Nice to also see Melissa helping with her background of knowledge . You are such a sweet couple and lovable family.
That was an interesting collection of "silver" items. I learn a lot when I watch these. Aside from the value of silver, I did think old coins (50+ years) would have been valuable. Oh, well. I'll keep saving them because they're neat to look at.
Always good to see the money and the precious metals that you find! That particular box yielded some nice items! I understand what you say about scrapping out silver, since you can sell it quicker for the silver value. It’s just a shame to see a silverware set being scrapped. There are those of us who still polish silver and use it for what it was intended for. But yeah, I get that there are not enough of us to warrant trying to sell to a collector. This whole series again shows that some people hoard a lot of random things we would consider junk. But you always find the gems among the coal!
Nice find 👍 Enjoyed seeing Melissa too! I look forward to seeing each video and make quite a production of brewing a cup of coffee to enjoy while I watch.
My mum has the exact silver coated coaster... several of them🤣...they ´ll put out every single christmas dinner (to this day). Very sad to see, that you cut the iconic Hans "I´m home, honey" out of your intro, Alex 😞. I loved repeating all the words from it (including your words ) whenever you put out a new video... I will miss that😢very much. And yes, I know... time to change... sometimes its best to move on...but still (sniffs). Oh well, anyhoo... good to see wonderful Melissa🌼helping you out there. Even though it was not the jackpot you might have hoped, Alex... there were still some nice items among all the banknotes, coins and silver. Well done and thank you for taking us along. Good luck on the upcoming auctions🍀. Sending a Hallo from Germany👋
To clean Old silver… Aluminum foil in the Bottom of a container - plenty of salt - place the silver stuff in there - Pour boiling water over and submerge the silver…. Magic happens!!! Notice: it Will smell bad😅 Sulphur like… But SO easy on your forks knifes spoons💯 Its chemistry without harmful chemicals🤷🏼♂️Its so magic to Watch silver become clean in seconds!!!
Renee, from the "Paper and Moose" RUclips channel, is currently going through an abandoned hoarder house. She came upon a stack of WWI and WW2 posters from Red Cross, USA etc. Plus many awesome treasures. Congrats Alex on your windfall pick, love the Predator Artwork.
@Arthur Funny you should mention Renee when the person above said Alex wasn't excited enough brought me to thinking of Renee when sees some kind of poster like yesterday she got so excited about it she can hardly contain herself or the elves from a viewer I have to laugh at her sometimes but Alex has been doing this for so long and he's a guy (you know what I mean by that) he has probably seen everything over and over again so just not as exciting the 50th time around 🇨🇦🦩
Those Canadian five dollar notes in the binder i noticed have serial numbers that count in sequence, and are sought after by collectors. I wouldn't seperate them or spend them, hang on to them Alex!
I think I recognized some of those charms may be from Cracker Jack or gumball machine as well as from jewelry store, such a mishmash....there are coin & bill beginners who start their collections with common small denominations like you showed now that the queen has passed certain bills have more meaning.....even some of the small tins/boxes have collectors - great start on a small box
Watching this made me realize that if someone were cleaning out my house they would find little that they felt was "worth" keeping. There's no jewelery or silver coins. Maybe a handful of interesting antiques, and all the rest of this will end up in a thrift store.
Nothing wrong with that. People define their lives too much with things. I keep decluttering, but I think I’ll keep my art collection and go maximalist on the walls.
Great video. I chuckled when you brought up the plastic charm bracelet. As a young child, I and my peers would collect the charms and trade them. They came in little plastic "bullets" from vending machines like the old gumball machines. I'd forgotten about them, but having seen the one you showed, I remembered and realized I probably still have some of those around here somewhere.
Good box of "littles" with some very decent items. Requires a bit of closer looks at some things. Tripod can be useful for tabletop displays. Just need practice. Stay well Archbold family. Hope you had a fun Halloween.
Hey Guys! I think all those little plastic 'charms' that were in the cigar box, are actually prizes from 'Cracker Jacks' from back in the 70s when they still put toys in the boxes. So exciting!
I have a vast elephant collection, some expensive some not, but my favorite is a little green plastic elephant from a Cracker Jacks box that walks. And recently when my family discussing what things in particular they wanted from my estate, the first thing my son

Really glad to see you have two hands 🙌 .
So excited to see this.
LOOKING FORWARD TO THE SAFE CONTENT ALEX 🖖👍👌
Just my opinion. I prefer without tripod. If it's not broke don't fix it.
This made me dizzy 😵
I prefer it without the tripod as well.
Hi Melissa, glad you are doing this with Alex
So happy for you and your family!!
The american $5 looked like a silver certificate.
To clean Old silver…
Aluminum foil in the Bottom of a container - plenty of salt - place the silver stuff in there - Pour boiling water over and submerge the silver….
Magic happens!!!
Notice: it Will smell bad😅
Sulphur like… But SO easy on your forks knifes spoons💯
Its chemistry without harmful chemicals🤷🏼♂️Its so magic to Watch silver become clean in seconds!!!
I appreciated the tripod thanks Alex. It was so much better to watch having a still and stable picture. Happy treasure hunting.
Just starting to watch. It’s great to see the two of you. I’m excited ❤
Thanks for the heads up Arthur, I will check out that channel!
You found alot of history in that box !!!
Those Canadian five dollar notes in the binder i noticed have serial numbers that count in sequence, and are sought after by collectors. I wouldn't seperate them or spend them, hang on to them Alex!
Looking forward to the next one!
Another great find
I think I recognized some of those charms may be from Cracker Jack or gumball machine as well as from jewelry store, such a mishmash....there are coin & bill beginners who start their collections with common small denominations like you showed now that the queen has passed certain bills have more meaning.....even some of the small tins/boxes have collectors - great start on a small box
ENJOYED THE VIDEO AS ALWAYS, NICE TO SEE MELISSA TOO!
How fun. Thanks for sharing. 😁
This one was a little hard to watch as it was zoomed in a little too closely but was still a fun lookie-loo video - thanks Alex
That was fun! Looking forward to the next one! Thanks!
Alex, you have really done a good job on the hoarder house videos. I think I missed one so I have to go back and look. Look forward to the next ones. God bless you and family.
