I understand it's not everybody's case, but I'm quite relaxed with my 3yo son's speech. I raise him as bilingual, and from the beginning I was aware he will speak later. And, I even don't like to call it "delay", as I believe it is just a way to learn different ways of communication in diverse environments.
Recently, I realized that my son uses words from two different languages while communicating with me, but when he is with his dad, he uses only his native language. I beat, he knows which one is mum's language and she can speak in dad's language too. However, dad cannot speak in mum's language, so he wouldn't speak to him in my language (anyway, I haven't seen him trying to speak to his dad in mum's language so far)
Yes, I'm quite aware he doesn't meet UK's milestones, but I'm not concerned at all, because, at some point, my son will speak fluently in at least two languages while his peers will keep trying to grasp their native language.
My advice to parents is: Chill out! Enjoy playing with your child, and include them in everything what you do, washing, cleaning, cooking, shopping, meeting with friends, interacting with other kids, etc. Communicate with them in both ways: your way (talk to them, exaggerate facial expressions and emotions in the tone of your voice, show excitement, or concerns, such as "Oh no!" poor kitten has boo boo" " need go hospital". And if your child would repeat after you "boo boo...pital" with similar worrying expression, it's all good! They know what you communicate to them. Keep talking to them. They will be practicing repetitions, and eventually, they will get there. And! prise them after their responses, even if it is just a "boo boo... pital" They are working hard. And most of all, kids love learning!!! They are LEARNING MACHINES. Trust them and trust the process.

It's true what you say about different languages.i will stop worrying because my son his 2nhalf and is exposed to 3 languages at some point he will be fluent in all. We teach him one thing and he will say it next time he wants to say it in English and not how we taught him bcoz of what he heard from the tv. I just worried when I see his peers already forming sentences n stuff.

@@preciousprecious7581 Please, do not worry!! My son amazes me every day. Now, he names one thing in two languages. Not necessarily at the same time, but he recognizes words to the context. When he says "cow", then I say cow in my language, then he repeats, then I say "white cow", he repeats, and I say white cow in my language, and he keeps repeating after me until I tell him "well done!" and we have 'high five' and he's happy and proud of himself. And you be proud of your son, I mean, show him acceptance. They need approval and acceptation so much. Anyway, I always praise my son for any achievement.
The new thing, from a few days, he says "mine!" instead of xxx's (name's). So far it was mummy's, daddy's, and xxx's. He is nearly 3.5 yo and learnt 'I, mine...' it's big. That's development expected for 5-6yo. Please, don't worry, you will be shocked one day when your son says, of sudden, the word you would never suspect they were understanding either combination of 3 words in a sensible sentence. Seriously, I'm fricked out how it works, but it does. Just talk to him normally, and I guarantee you, all of this sink in his mind, and one day he will surprise you by speaking about something that happened @ 5 months ago.

Without any tests whatsoever; a pediatrician said to me, "do not be surprised if your 1yr old child does not speak well." I did not understand what he was implying. I asked the doctor, why would I have low expectations of his speech? He just laughed. My child was diagnosed with ASTHMA and the doctor prescribed asthma medication (i used natural treatment to alleviate the asthma & not medication) my child had 0 problem in speech, 0 problem in language and his asthma was under control. As future medical appointments came, the doctor observed my son. he once even asked me,"Are you giving your son the asthma medication?" My son is now 18 years of age and he is going to college.

My son will be 3 in May.
He doesn’t say mom or dad. But will call his brothers names.
He knows everything we say or ask him to do. He has slowly started to communicate with babbling and some half words.
I ask him where is mom and he point at me but won’t say it. I guess I’m just waiting for that moment.

22 months and my son doesn’t really talk. I work with him everyday. He doesn’t watch tv at all. I’ve never really introduced screen time to him. He does a little bit here and there. Maybe a total of an hour a week or less. I don’t think he has asd. He says car lol.

having a higher receptive language score is actually a good sign. If it were reverse then there could be a more severe language disorder...I forgot the name of the disorder but its related to down syndrome.

My son is the same, will be four in September, we have him starting preschool then too, he has been learning words sooooo slowly, he really picks up on sign language though, so something in his brain seems to struggle with making the word with his tongue, cause when he does talk it's like his own language, he tries but I have to figure out what he's saying, unless he knows the word in sign language. They say preschool or church daycare will help him tons, I pray God intervenes because his sister is two and seems to have caught up with him.
Just putting him with kids his own age may help a bunch, cause we don't see much in the once a week speech therapy classes.
