I wish I had this video 8 years ago when our child was first diagnosed. He touches on details of how our mindset should be and some harsh realities we all need to consider.
It's an eye opener for parents... we know our kids need therapy..... reality is hard....we need to accept and take one day as it comes.... thanks for the video.
I really like and appreciate how realistic you put it in this video. My daughter is four and a half years old. She has trouble sounding her words (only half of what she says is understandable) and mixes sound positions with "s" words by putting it at the back instead of the front. She has speech therapy at her school and has improved quite a lot. Before she started, she couldn't be understood much at all and would just make general ambiguous sounds. I got us in an early prevention program, but it did little (kinda made me feel like I wasn't teaching her right since 99% of what to do was on my part and I'm not a trained pathologist or anything and they just told me what she needs to work on 🤷🏻♀️). The past couple years have been an uphill battle, but it's far from over. She really tries everyday, but like any typical kid, she only has the patience to practice for up to a half hour (on a good day).
@AbdulRahman-lv5pj That stuff don't work. Autism isn't something that can be cured through herbs. Don't spread that kind of misinformation around as it can cause more harm than good to those with autism.
You’ve given me hope for my 18 year old son, because you helped a 30 year old. I thought it was over because of his age..He’s been to so many therapists and they work on things he doesn’t need help with like idioms etc. He stammers so much and says hmm, reverses and changes what he is saying. He has no fluidity. He is on the spectrum. His symptoms are the stammering and no fluidity. What can I do to help him? I will do anything!!!! He wants to work and be independent but how if he struggles to communicate. You’d have to be so patient and have all the time in the world to wait to see what he will say. One sentence takes forever. I want to help him. Please! 😭🙏🏼🙏🏼
we need to know which language level does his stuttering become manageable... Does he stutter at word level? Phrase? or only at sentence? does he stutter when he sings?
@@AgentsofSpeech ALL! But 99% of the time at sentence level. The rest only about 30% of the time. Thanks for answering. Let me know if there’s something I can do for my boy.
I have 3 officemates who are on the spectrum. 2 engineers over 30 yrs old. The girl is in her 20s. They all have different levels. But the other engineer struggles with speech. He stutters continuously, by word and by sentences. He doesn't get social cues but he manages with everyone in the office with a little bit of sense of humor. Has struggles with work but excels at computer programs. Bullying and teasing happens but others got his back too. He's living independently thousands of kilometers from his parents. We took care of him when he had a panic attack because he skipped his meds because he has trouble sleeping. Obviously it all depends on the levels. But from what I observe is that this is a life long commitment for parents. If they're gonna live independently, it's best if it's only within a hundred kilometers away from you. They need you. I have a 3y.o. diagnosed to be on the spectrum too.❤

He has just been evacuated 2 weeks ago and will have his first session next week. I have found he can make most speech sounds but struggles with f, th, w. What he cant do is use them in words. When he talks he has a d at the beginning of most words. He has great understanding and is very social, just struggles to talk. I guess ill just have to wait and see how the speech therapist is going to begin helping us.
My son is 19 month and not talking. I think it's more my fault than anything, not working with him to teach language. I thought that if I just talked to him a lot he would start but maybe that's not the case? He has hit every other milestone and his doctor says he isn't autistic. Apparently his comprehension is behind as well, I'm told he should understand commands like go get your cup. However if I haven't taught him the word cup obviously he can't do this. So how do I teach him "cup" just show him the cup and repeat the word endlessly?
