He’s a pro. Faster than most cardinals I’ve seen.

I work as a manager in a grocery store and a cardinal came in thought the back dock and lived there for over a year before we were forced to have him caught and released. We named him Marty and everyone fed him. I gave him fresh fruits and vegetables and he would land on me to eat. He grew to know the sound of me whistling And would come flying. I miss the little guy :/

you can tell how much this Cardinal trusts you by how often it's crest is lowered, it clearly trusts you and feels very comfortable near you!

not only does the bird get a free feed but it also enjoys the underfoot heating as well lol
Since pandemic, I have been spending lots of time in yard and birds are getting more comfortable with me. Blue birds come within a couple feet of me now when I puttin meal worms out for them. Blue Jays come with maybe 5 feet of me and several Cardinals just seem to not pay much attention to me at all . Even rabbit lets me walk within a couple feet of him with my little dog walking along. I think they just need time to get used to you. Now they all take off if a stranger comes around. Blue birds for sure like me best.
Bluebirds are the meanest birds, they will attack you but I have a red bird male that waits for me and he gets within
10ft of me and will feed it's like he waits for me every day!! I talk to him maybe he'll get used to me. He's the one that started this relationship we have!!
Same for me except with squirrels, this little brown one comes really close to me. He'd climb on me if I let him lol
Wow! & being one of THE most Skittish Birds, too. Only a person with Good Energy, a Calm Mind & a Kind Heart could make a Cardinal feel so trusting.

Im late but there was a hearwarming story about a lady who had a sister who loved cardinals and said 'if she died she wanted to be one'
... she passed from cancer... and a few months later they find a cardal sitting on her sisters window they pick it up and try to make it fly... but it says in her hand!😮

@@lavish_1717 There's a video showing this exact thing happening. The cardinal landed on this lady and after a few minutes she tried to gently toss it into the air to fly but it just landed back on her.

This amazing Video was posted YEARS AGO & I STILL come back to it now & then just to watch this sweet Bird. If I had that sort of success with a Cardinal I truly would feel I've accomplished something UNIQUELY spectacular & special in my Life! (Sh! don't tell my Kids!)
Thank You! I do feel a great sense of connection every time I watch this video. It was something that happened unexpectedly and blew my mind at the time. This was the second time in that week that this occurred but has not happened since. I feel blessed!

I'm pretty sure there's someone hand feeding birds near my home. I was sitting on the porch enjoying the day and a chickadee flew up and landed on my knee, then waited patiently while I stared at him in amazement. I've honestly been carrying sunflower seeds in my pocket since. I hope to see him again.

I love Cardinals so much, as did my dad who passed a few yrs ago (we even had a Cardinal "theme" for his memorial.) For that exquisite creature to trust you enough to eat from your hand has to be a supernatural experience! (I'd be shaking so much from joy that he'd probably leave within seconds!) My neighborhood Cardinals flee when I get anywhere near them, even when I'm innocently just working in the yard. The chickadees will come closer and chirp at me, especially as I'm filling the feeder, but never got one to eat from my hand. 😕
Thanks Chris. This happened at a time when my Dad was in a nursing home with dementia and it brought me much comfort. It actually occured twice that week which I knew was something special.🥰This was filmed at an area where the birds are very accustomed to people feeding them.
I have a cardinal couple living in our back yard. I wish I could feed them like that.

To put things in perspective, I own an Australian Grasskeet that I've had since he was a juvenile-At that point he had female coloration. He always rushes to the front of the cage to see me when I enter the room, but will only hop on my finger/hand when I'm changing the food and water in his cage. Then is his show of aggression, he "bites" (actually more like a nibble) to let me know I've entered his domain.
So beautiful. I recently put out a new feeder. Today I noticed a new nest in a bush nearby and a male and female coming and going. No eggs yet. I'm excited
That sounds exciting Ken. I have a pair in my garden that visit everyday and nest on my property.

Congratulations! A Cardinal 😍. Thank you for sharing it. This definitely works better to try for the first time during late fall and winter. I came up with an idea and it's working (video on my channel) hopefully soon I'll be able to feed a Cardinal too.
My favorite bird ! I really think my dad sends me the brightest cardinals, blue jays and canaries just to let me know he's watching over me and keeping me safe. Every time I see one, I know he's letting me he loves me even though the separation between us will last (in my understanding) a while.
That was like watching someone eat watermelon and spitting the seeds. They are gorgeous birds. Wish we had them here in Utah. :-)
When this video began playing i wasn’t looking at the screen. When it began playing it scared me because it was so loud and sounded like tv “snow”. When I looked it was the water in the background.

Almost looks unreal. These guys would never let you get anywhere close to them. I am photographer, I tried. I have a bird feeder and every time they come over the moment I am in my kitchen 10 feet away separated with a glass window they fly away. Same with Blue Jays. The squirrel doesn't seem to care as long as I don't go outside. So this video is amazing to me.

I didnt think that was possible until i googled and then looked up this. I have a pair of cardinals in my yard i feed them safflower seed, they love it. But even the slightest movement from within my house window they get skittish and fly away. I would love it if they landed on my hand and fed. Chickadees i have had better success, albeit from a park where they are used to it
This was filmed in a park where the birds are fed regularly. It is still unusual for a cardinal to land & feed from your hand at this park. It was very cold on this day and the cardinal must of been very hungry. The cardinals in my garden react the same as yours do...one movement and they're gone.
Dang, after I crack the shell I still have to spit it out and split it with my fingers to get the seed. You win this round Cardinal.

WOW!!! I am shocked, amazed, even a lil jealous! How many years did it take to get to THAT level of trust? Getting those shy guys to even come anywhere near is nearly impossible! Even after 2 years of our regular early morning and late night seeds and singing, Pretty Papa still keeps a good 10-20 feet between us! I've never even tried to hand feed him tho... lucky you, that right there is phenomenal

What a beautiful bird and it's amazing how he stays right with you no fear at all. You have the magic touch. It take ages for animals to warm up to me though I much prefer them to people lol .Great footage ,in fact great channel everything is well filmed!
Wonder if this has to do with their range is the SE US and they couldn't expand that far North without bird feeders and nice folks like you helping when their food is covered by snow. I also have a family of these I've been spending my days with by living on my porch the last 2 months. Neighbors probably think I'm crazy. Maybe I am. But the father I've gotten within a few feet. The mother not so much. But they are incredible birds.
Wow I love this video, I live in corpus Christi texas and there is a place called goose island by rockport texas and I went there to see cardinals and bought sunflower seeds but it didnt work, but that's ok hee hee

Great this takes time. I have tufted titmice eating out of my hand and black capped chickadees too. We havetwo mates of a female cardinal and a male and both land fairly close to see the birds.
