I am just curious about the other Cardinal watchers and their experience. I had a dozen Cardinals males and females at my feeders for years , they all seem to have disappeared. Does anybody have any ideas why? 🤔🤔
I once found a Cardinals egg that fell out of its nest. I took it and put it in an egg carton and placed under a heating lamp turning it on and off periodically. My mom said, son that egg will never hatch. Believe it or not it hatched a week later. I reintroduced it back into the nest and the mother raised it. One of the most satisfying things I did as a kid.
Wow!! That’s the best story!! 💕 You saved that baby and it went on to reproduce and then their babies went on to have babies. You made a difference. Even a small pebble makes a ripple in the water.
Wow! That's amazing. Truly one in a million shot, the fact the egg survived the fall, the fact you managed to incubate it in an egg carton of all ironies, the fact it actually hatched! and the fact you successfully reintroduced the chick into the nest and the mother raised it without question. BRAVO Sir 👏🏻
A great aunt of mine collected Cardinals. Every knick knack you could think of. The whole house was full of them. After her funeral, we all drove out to the cemetery. During the graveside service, we all noticed that the evergreens around the cemetery were FULL of cardinals. They were all around us. It was the most beautiful sight.
My mother knew an old saying, that said, “ When you see a red bird, throw him three kisses and make a wish and your wish will come true.” They are my favorite bird. I love their sweet songs; “Cheer, cheer, cheer”. Thank you, God, for Cardinals, they cheer up my days!
:3 God is the best and I'm glad I know Him and I'm glad for those that believe in Him cause for those that do are blessed no matter what is going on :> I'm happy He made such animals but I wish to see the ones that died off because of the Ice Age and the stuff before that.
The cardinal pair in our neighborhood are so tender with each other. When the female is feeding on the ground at the bird feeder, the male is up in the tree, watching out for her, chirping. He won't eat until she's had her fill.
I didn't realize this until you said this. I thought he was being fearful oh well now. ,,,I appreciate them even more. I also have a pair of doves that visit me almost daily for 3 years
I enjoy seeing red cardinals beautifying my backyard while drinking a nice cup coffee & sometimes bluejays show up occasionally. Watching them helps to take your mind off of all the nonsense going on in the world
My wife put a humming bird feeder on our porch we also love to watch them in the morning with a cup Of coffee and in the evening . We have all kinds of birds we also have a bird bath which helps them come to your yard .
Ikr that's why I look out the window so much or just go outside. To take my kind somewhere beautiful so I don't go insane and listening to Linkin Park helps too :p
And I hope you feed them! Feeding birds in the wintertime is so important. I live in one of the Mid-Atlantic states and we have a lot of trees on our property and feed them daily.
Mom and I always adored these birds.. After she died every afternoon at 400pm a cardinal would make an appearance and begin to sing... I could have set my watch by it.
I have experienced same likeness my beloved passed Away three years now first of september every beginning of each month like clockwork the cardinal comes , if im busy in my house it calls for me to notice its there then it will come in veiw so that I can see him and look to see it im coming to the window I ran to my window it begins singing I know thats my beloved come to say hello on the first or second day of every month.. I get a peace and Im so mesmerizesd by its faithfulness and beauty..💕
Nearly 10 years ago we had a brutally cold winter in Southern Ontario. I saw a pair of Cardinals (male and female) in the yard and they were actually digging in the ground looking for worms. (Normally this isn't their food choice) The male was sharing whatever he found with his mate - or Mrs. Cardinal - as I nicknamed her. It was a sight to see.
I showed this video to my 91 year old grandmother and she absolutely loved it! She describes herself as a lifelong cardinal lover. Thank you for making this video!
We have thoroughly enjoyed watching our cardinal couple, “George & Gracie” at our bird feeder outside our kitchen window this past winter. They brought us so much joy during our isolated days during covid.
I'll be drinking my morning coffee and I'll hear that little pip sound that they make and sure enough, I look out my window and there they are at the feeders. When I see one I know the mate is not far away.
Greg LaPointe yeah I know what you mean, when you hear that “feeding chirp” as I’ve heard it described- you know they are near and it is awesome because that way you can be alerted to when they’re at the feeders or just visiting. I’m speaking specifically about the winter, in the spring and summer, they sing, so you can be alerted to their presence very easily at that time. But in the winter and stuff they don’t sing, so it’s great that they still do the feeding chirps that way you can look outside when you hear them and then see their magnificent beautiful colours (the males and females are both beautifully coloured in my opinion) and they look stunning against the white wintery backdrop
I had two or three couples of cardinals nesting in the trees in my yard in Texas. That was when I found how caring the red dad's are to their babies. I saw a male & female near a feeder, and I noticed that though she was almost as big as him, she was still young cause she started the fast wing flapping and chirping baby birds do when they want to feed. The dutiful dad went to the feeder, gathered sunflower seeds and fed her 3 or 4 times before they flew off. I had never seen that before! It was like a human dad hand feeding a 16 Yr old! I thought, that's daddy's little girl!! She was really demanding, too. Great respect for cardinal dads!
Watching Cardinals raise their babies was a joy I had years ago, the pair in my yard would visit the feeder with their young gray fledgling and it was so cute
Wow the same thing happened to me 3 years ago and it actually sparked my interest in birds, and I still see and feed that very same cardinal couple daily. It’s 3:00 am here, and I know in 4 hours I will see them 😊. I’m happy that a cardinal pair came to you as well, I know how lucky you were to have this as I had the same luck. Hope you’re well now
With all the craziness in the world, I know that I can always come to a Lesley video to put a smile on my face. She has made me love birds even more. Big hug from Detroit!
I have heard so many different stories about the significance of seeing a Red Cardinal - most recently, when one appears it is the Soul of a Loved One passed. I had a wonderful Pair living for years in my Yard and one day while trimming the Hedge, a stunning empty Nest fell to the ground. I was shocked to see the beautiful creation with pretty delicate ribbon woven thru and around the perimeter, perhaps from someones Birthday Gift that escaped the Trash? but most stunning and breathtaking were the dried Hydrangea flowers!! neatly tucked near the threaded ribbon - it was so beautiful it truly looked like a Wedding Bouquet! So excited by my find, I sadly forgot to photograph it before I gave it away as a Gift to my Neighbor as it was really her Hedge from which it came. Not that I should regret giving away any Gift, I secretly do! It was just so special and knew it was built by my little Red Friends I was devoted to for years. Watching the Male (Henry) tenderly hulling a Seed and feeding his Mate (Gladys) was perhaps the greatest Gift of all!
When my friend Angel was terminally ill, she told me that I would know when she crossed over. (She lived in Florida, and I was inTexas) one Saturday morning on my way to work, I saw cardinals my entire drive. Later that morning it occurred to me what I might be witnessing. I was right, she had passed away early that morning. I knew she was with me. That was 20 years ago. I rarely go a day without seeing cardinals. I’ve lived in several places since then, visited other states, and still I see cardinals. I’m most excited now as we moved into another home, and I have a pair of cardinals that inspired me to put up feeders. I’m so excited, I have gray doves 🕊 (3 pairs) at least 3 blue jays, a red headed wood pecked, and 2 other smaller ones, but don’t know their breed. I also have chickadees, mocking birds, and several small birds. I need to invest in a book! But your channel really helps feed my new found love of bird watching. They make me so happy.
That is a an intriguing story, I have heard of similar accounts. My brother witnessed my father die from an extended illness, hours before his passing he told of a white horse he seen, minutes before his passing he said my white horse is here waiting for me and he passed.. One day we will all be together with God in Heaven amen...
I found a baby cardinal in the middle of a road with no trees or parents to be found. I was able to raise Roscoe and prepared him for release. However he always returned, demanding to be brought inside. After nearly a dozen releases and observing close calls with a hawk, a snake and a cat we decided he could stay. One of his many fans and friends gave him a huge cage and we put it in our sunroom. Each morning I opened the cage doors and he had full use of the room. He proved to be extremely intelligent and solved a number of puzzles and even housebroke himself and would return to the cage to relieve himself. He loved people and always flew to his visitors to sit on them and eat any treats given to him. He bathed each morning and loved to eat the grasses, flowers, seeds and fruits I picked daily for him. He grew into a gorgeous red male. Beautiful. Sadly somebody reported me and he was confiscated and released in the middle of winter. Sad day. I miss him.
Thanks for the molting info; we saw the pet Cardinal in our yard looking very beat up with almost every feather gone from its head and we assumed he lost a bad territorial fight. We felt so sorry for him. Now we know he was just molting.
It's also said that if you see one it represents one of your deseased loved ones. And my Grandfather who was Native American said it's good luck as well.
I feed the birds and squirrels every day on my deck. There are two male and two female cardinal birds. It's like the males are bringing their girls to dinner. They are so smart and cute. They recognize you and somehow seem grateful. A couple of times, I've seen the male get a mouthful of sunflower seeds and hop over and put the seeds in his girlfriends mouth. To me, this is the greatest show on earth.
Doug Overoff....it is said, that if you see Cardinals. That Angels are near,Condolences on the loss of your Loved one. In April 2019 ,I lost my beloved Brother In Law. A few minutes before he passed at home, his Brother came into the house from the back deck and said,I just saw the most Beautiful Cardinal sitting on the deck railing.
@@michaelgaynor6866 Thank you for your kind thoughts. Condolences on your loss, as well. We'll see them again, you know. I think that there is probably some truth to that old saying, and those who knew my father wouldn't be surprised at all if it were true. God bless!
Doug, I thought that it was just me, but the day of my mom's funeral I saw a cardinal. So I made a vow to always say, "hi" to my mom when I'd see a cardinal!! Now, we have a couple feeders and at one time we counted 8 males at one time!! There were several females, too, but much harder to say how many!! Thanks for your comment!!
In November and December when it gets really cold and snowy the cardinals all pack into the trees in our backyard. They all just sit out there with their feathers all puffed up trying to keep warm.
I am so jealous of you both ! Man ! I'd love to have lots of red cardinals like apples on a tree near by our place !!! Lol. Though I live in L.A. ! Lol. But, I've seen some in Cali a loong time ago ! I do believe so ! Please take care & stay safe !💜💜💜💜🥁🎵🐉🎤🎶🐧🐦🐥🦃🦅💕💞
This summer I was filling up my feeder every day because I had so many juveniles coming to eat. It's hilarious to see a baby land on the feeder next to a parent, and beg for food while it's basically sitting in the food.
It's so hilarious and sweet, we had a really noisy little fella about a month ago who followed her mom everywhere. They can really throw a tantrum, complete with wing flapping that's ridiculously cute. Best laughs my family and I have had for a while, nice to see others getting to experience that joy :)
In southern California I taught a mockingbird to do the cardinals “ me toooooo” whistle. He’d sit on top of a power pole and whistle away lol. People looked all over for that strange bird sound. Some Easterners swore they had “seen” a cardinal around
My mother in law's favorite bird was the cardinal. We placed her chair at the kitchen table where she could watch the birds at the bird feeders. We lost her on October 16, 2018. Since then we have seen cardinals in places and act in ways we never saw before. Because of Mom's love of the birds we instinctively say "Hi, Mom ". We believe she uses her favorite birds to let us know she's watching over us. 💜
Ah, Cardinals! I love watching them and listening to their beautiful chirps and songs. I never knew they “attack” their reflection. I also didn’t know how devoted the Dad’s are to their young. Another informative video, thank you!
It was saw on Alabama couple months back. Was in fla. I saw the yellow cardinal. I asked God if he wanted me to go take care of a friend /cancer....sit a yellow bird right there and God did....flew and sat on banister and sang a different song from a cardinal it was beautiful .. a yellow cardinal
I live in Northern Florida and Cardinals started showing up right in front of my porch. Beautiful birds. A trip to town and got a feeder, which I hung 15 feet away from my porch. I also provided them with water, and now have front row seating morning and night. Oh, I forgot, the male attacks the mirrors on my truck. I’m guessing he thinks an intruder is on the other side 😅
I have cardinals constantly in my backyard. I feed wild bids and they seem to take a hankering to me. Whenever I sing or whistle a song, they seem to appear out of nowhere. I love them. They are always in pairs...so sweet.
I often have a whole flock of gorgeous cardinals feeding at my many feeders. The view is breathtaking!!!👍🏻 Makes me stop in my tracks & always fills my ❤ with JOY!!😍
I love my Cardinals, I have a beautiful pair that frequent my yard. They are such a stunning addition to our bland winter. They are timid and I appreciate seeing them and the doves we have. Thank you for identifying their call as I now know what call I have been hearing. ❤️😊
As a kid, I remember their beautiful morning songs. It’s still rare to hear one in north Texas. But when I do, it still to this very day, brings a smile to my face. I will always love the song of this beautiful bird....and smile when I hear it.
I’ve always seen them and record them. And it’s always this way when I’ve moved homes. There would be a red one. Just sitting on the gate. I live in Louisiana now and I see them more here too. It’s nice. Because native Americans believed they were messengers of passed loved ones or just a symbol to stay strong in faith.
I've heard someone else say that they are manifestations of our deceased loved ones. I had to say goodbye to my sweet Miss Kitty yesterday, and the cardinals have been all around me as if to say, "We are taking care of her now." I spent some time in our yard tonight and saw one or two flying by me. It was so comforting. Might need to spend more time hearing their lovely song.
Awww, this was adorable! It's great to see others interested in birding helping each other out as well. Thanks for another educational and wonderful video, Lesley!
I live in NYC ,,I see starlings ,pigeons,,house sparrows most often than gulls robins and doves and some black bird (raven or crow) I once saw a red tailed hawk on a light pole,,I just did some NYC bird research and realize that there are so many birds that I don't remember ever seeing,,,what's funny about blue jays and cardinals is the the only place I remember seeing them from time to time is in our backyard,,I think there are some trees that attract them,,I don't remember seeing the NYC state bird
Born , raised and live in Ohio my whole life and my anticipation of spring gives me joy not only because of warmer weather but the wonderful calls that our state bird makes. Love the Cardinals ❤ in Ohio !! Thank you Leslie 👍✌🌹!!
We have a pair in our backyard, I call them Paris and France. The female is just as pretty as the male, with a beautiful colour distribution. They feed each other, too.
I used to say the same thing. Cardinal sounds like they're saying "pretty birdie. Pretty birdie. Pretty birdie." Then, you have the chickadees saying "hey sweetie" : )
Thank you everyone for contributing. I have great memories of a cardinal, "Lil' Red Bird". He was a hurt cardinal, I brought to the animal hospital. They said his wing was too damaged and they were going to put him down. I told them I have a birdhouse, 16'x32'x8' high, sides protected with half inch hardware cloth that I raised bobwhite quail. He was with me for several years. He had branches to hop around on and would fight with several males through the hardware cloth. He was The Boss. 😊
That's so sweet & kind of you !!! Thank you so much for being so compassionate & helping the poor cardinal ! A lucky / bossy bird ! INDEED ! Lol. A FABULOUS story ! Thank you for sharing ! 💜💜💜💜💖🥁🎵🎤🎶🐉💕💞🐦🐥🐓🤗😍
When I saw how long the video was I was like “That’s too long!” Boy, was I wrong. That was the fastest ten minutes I think I’ve ever spent. Thanks for all the great information from someone who didn’t know as much as I thought I did! Oh, and I had a male cardinal that showed up bald every spring for three years in the Outer Banks of NC.
I’m so blessed to have a male and female pair of cardinals who visit my window every day in the morning and noonday. Seeing them during this covid virus reminds me of many who have passed on but there presence has helped me so much. Thanks for this video it’s made me more knowledgeable about them .🙏🏽
As soon as I open my door to let out my dogs I hear our Cardinals singing outside. After losing my husband in 2019 it is the most comforting feeling. ❤️❤️🙏✝️
Thank you SO much Lesley for putting together this wonderful, informative video. And thanks to those who gave you videos & info to use. Decades ago when we lived in Southern Ohio, I was thrilled to have them coming to my feeder. They ARE spectacular & their songs are so happy! But, since 1978, we've been in SoCAL & there are none here! I miss them, however, I have other birds coming to my backyard. I certainly miss those brightly colored feathered friends singing their happy songs. Thanks again to you & the folks who gave you what was needed to make this terrific video! ♥
So lovely. I love their colors (both the male and female). Once they are paired, they really are inseparable- this one couple comes to my parents' house just about every day to eat from the feeders. Whenever I'd see one of them, I'd know the other was nearby and I was always right. Their commitment is admirable. Also, the other day, I was in my backyard with my family and a cardinal was above us in a tree calling its little heart out. My mom whistled at it and it stopped and looked right at her, lol! They are just too cute. Thanks for an enjoyable and informative video!
"I'LL CATCH YOU WHEN YOU FALL"...Sometimes I feel like a redbird, that's searching for its lost mate, I beat my wings as I climb to the sky, but fly alone till death is my fate. There's an amazing story about the redbird that inspired me to write a rockin blue grass song 30 years ago. It's even more amazing than the song, and my blessed widowed grand mother, who inspired it 30 years before that. As a little boy with a BB gun in her back yard, I remember when I heard MeMe say, "David, don't shoot the redbirds." I asked her why, and she said..."because they mate for life." Imo, the most amazing thing about the song was, right after I wrote it, oddly I went out on my patio with my guitar to make a first ruff recording on my cassette recorder. I hit a G chord and the record button, and heard a sweet sound on the high line above. That beautiful male redbird, sang a duet with me all the way through two of my original first cuts. Wonder what the odds are of a wild red bird, singing a duet twice in the first cut of a song about a red bird, inspired by a comment to a 7 yo boy 30 yrs earlier about red birds? Funny thing, he'd wake me up at 3Am and be singing in a little tree in front of my bedroom...lol. My mom used to say, it was the spirit of Meme in the redbird. :)
Reincarnations are real ! I wish if I could tell you the whole stories ! I am seriously convinced my soulmate & my dad returned to me at the same time in my cat ! I know sounds very very crazy ! But my mom & other friends believe it ,too ! As he showed behaviors & habits of my dad's & others of my soulmate's & much more ! He understood what I was telling him ,too ! And my the other cat passed two months after him ..started showing my original cat's habits which he never had done in his entire life !!! I don't expect you to believe me ,I take it if you think I am wacky ,even ! Lol.Lots of hugs from L.A. ! I am Japanese, though ! Please stay safe ! 💜💜💜💜🎵🥁🎤🎶🐉💕💞👍
Thanks so much to all who contributed to this lovely video. I really enjoyed it. I used to live in Florida and we had lots of them in our back yard. I really miss them, and their songs now that I live in N.California.
Glad you enjoyed, Im hoping to have a newer more polished video of the Northern Cardinals out soon. Thanks a lot for watching and leaving a lovely comment
I have two cardinals who are wonderful fun to watch. "Barney" is a feisty cardinal that patrols the windows of my job attacking windows. After a point we ended up putting up a fake owl to protect him from himself and to stop the perpetual tapping noise of the beak against the glass. Barney moved on shortly after and other birds seemed not to mind oddly enough . Nowadays Barney is busy attacking lamp posts with glass *sigh*. He's less successful with making contact though. The other cardinal I know is the "Little Firebird". I've never seen a cardinal so intensely red in my life. His tail feathers are a little longer then most cardinals I've seen which makes it more dramatic when he takes flight. However the most special thing about him is when he catches the light. He looks like he's made of flames. Little Fire is tricky to catch a photo of. I think he's either a neighborhood celebrity or very aware that his extra bright feathers attract more attention because he does his best to hide in the shadows. It's a real joy when he feels comfortable enough to come out and show off his intense red.
I have 2 couples (I think) coming to my feed station...not sure who is with who [LOL] but definitely 2 different males....but, never considered naming them. Thanks! :)
This is a really good video! We have had cardinal families in our backyard for 20 years and I recognize all those wonderful calls but I've never seen a yellow cardinal (but I will be looking from now on). I also just learned from your film that cardinal mates sometimes divorced and cheated. Those scoundrels!
This video made me smile! I'm lucky in Ft Worth, we see many cardinals in our area. I have subscribed to enjoy more bird videos and education. Thank you to all the team who are doing this!
Thoroughly enjoyed this...thank you. Also, thank you to all the others who allowed their beautiful pictures and info to be used....We love sitting outside watching and listening to all the chatter....
Here on Amelia Island in northern Florida, we have always had 3-4 couples grace our yard over the years. One male stands guard in the tree while his wife baths in the bird bath. Another male waits till dusk....till everyone has gone to bed....and then comes to the feeder for special nighttime treats we put out just for him. They are a joy!
You just answered my question about Cardinals and their reflections. A few years ago, a Cardinal was about go insane over his reflection. Thank God for your channel, and the cool people that helped with your video. Blessings bird lover!
I have enjoyed watching cardinals for as long as I can remember. I watched a pair on my deck furniture several hours ago. There is no mistaking their distinctive coloration.
Cardinals are my favorite bird because I'm from the St. Louis area. Sadly, I did not know much about them before this video though. Thank you so much, Leslie. Great work! God bless, Gary.
My very aged Mother needs to have a Cardinal come to the feeder when she can still see him. Pray that she shall receive this Wonderful Sign from GOD. Thank You. Great Upload Lesley
Every winter for 4 years the same two cardinals go on my neighbors roof, and I always feel lucky that every year their roof is a top destination, I believe the two cardinals are together, as the male has bright red, and the female has brownish red, cardinals are such a sight to behold on...
I’m so happy I stumbled upon your video thank you for all the info. I live in PA and every morning for one week now I see a male cardinal ( I’ve been recording him) . I said to my mom I don’t know why but he does this dance on the windshield and on the cars side mirror . Now I know why he’s doing it LOL it is the cutest thing !!! I have been walking my dogs earlier so I can see him longer😍😍😍 (I’m going through something and I feel like he is heaven sent )
I am tired of companies thinking they have a right over OUR planet to do as they see fit and the governments in cahut turning their heads looking the other way or accepting bribery. In my book a company spraying pesticide in the wild is a criminal company. The wild does not belong to them, i don't care what countries laws are when they fail to protect nature, any government authority is null and void in my book when it proves incapable to protect nature. I think most democratic government are in fact tyrannical and should be abolished.
Big Shout Out to red cardinals in Hawaii !!! Seen it all the time when i was younger. See it currently not as often but every so often, WALLAH, there it is !!! Such a beautiful bird with its usual songs. Kudos for your video.
I'm from Ohio, so I saw a lot of these over the years. Did you know they often times, at dusk, can be found as groups of 20-30 at reliable feeders? Usually during winter. It's beautiful to witness. Thanks for the video.
I have a lot of cardinals living around me. I once saw a yellow one and thought it was another bird that had a beak with other caractoristics like a cardinal. Thank you for this video. Now I will be trying to get a pic of him. ❤
I dont know how it didnt break the glass or get concusion...but one would CrasH into the window I was trying to sleeping under for hours!!! ;( Nightshift in Pa;)
I've got a very aggravating one bothering me for the past 4 months and still is. It's fall, not mating season. He started with my car mirrors, messing them with his spit and poop. I convered them with socks and he started on my windows. I cut the bushes off so he couldn't sit there conveniently, and then he started pooping up the mirrors on my camper! He hits my bathroom windows so hard I'm afraid he's going to break them while they are below freezing. I wish he would go away. He's making me not like the beautiful birds any longer when he wakes me up every morning sounding like someone is pounding my house with a hammer.
@@wuznotbornyesterda I had a group of them this year constantly hammering on my window. I would sit at my desk and I'm sure they were aware of me but it didn't deter them. They were entertaining except for early morning acoustics! Far worse were the pileated woodpeckers that began hammering on our eaves troughing in our neighbourhood the year before. More than a few of us bolted out of bed shocked at the unbelievable din. Our street backs onto a mature deciduous hardwood forest. We have so many birds we have to cover our furniture from May through June.People from all over North America and as far away as Europe come to our area to view birds.(Especially owls) I guess we're pretty lucky because our days are filled with beautiful bird songs. If only they didn't crap...Everywhere and on everything!!
A big thank you to you Lesley for this beautiful and entertaining video of one of the if not the most beautiful bird in the world. Blue Jays, Cardinals, Cockatiels, Pigeons and Mockingbirds are my FAVORITE birds.
Many thanks for putting together educational videos. All praise and thanks to God Almighty for all the beautiful things that He has created for us to enjoy, wonder and ponder.

What a wonderful experience-thanks for sharing
Wow! That's amazing. Truly one in a million shot, the fact the egg survived the fall, the fact you managed to incubate it in an egg carton of all ironies, the fact it actually hatched! and the fact you successfully reintroduced the chick into the nest and the mother raised it without question. How did the egg not crack when it fell from the tree?
❤ my daughter saved a dove when she was a child she is currently a veterinarian ❤

Thanks for sharing. Never heard that saying. My mother loved cardinals. Everytime I see one I think of her. Cardinals are truly beautiful.

So true! ❤️
Have loved both cardinals and jays throughout my years and have found them both beautiful talismans as spirit guides.🙏💜💙💚💝
My wife put a humming bird feeder on our porch we also love to watch them in the morning with a cup
Of coffee and in the evening . We have all kinds of birds we also have a bird bath which helps them come to your yard .
Ikr that's why I look out the window so much or just go outside. To take my kind somewhere beautiful so I don't go insane and listening to Linkin Park helps too :p
When the cardinals show up in my back yard, my wife and I drink coffee and look for more birds. Small thing but priceless
bulock3 I like to watch them with a nice scotch in winter and beer in summer........yes the special things are nice 🍺🥃 ☕️ cheers 🦜
And I hope you feed them! Feeding birds in the wintertime is so important. I live in one of the Mid-Atlantic states and we have a lot of trees on our property and feed them daily.
My husband and I watch them at our feeder every morning while having tea and coffee- so enjoyable and relaxing!
David C .......yea Dave that reminds me I have to go to Home Depot and get more seed 🍻
Chuckles live it up sir 🍻😎
I've been told cardinals are Angels.
@@lilylily9012They truly are. God bless those beautiful little reds and every bird in the world
So adorable how that male was sharing with the female. What a gentleman.
Most of them are gentleman. There’s one that comes to my house on the bird feeder and he feeds his girlfriend all the time. It’s so cute.
Yes it is. My wife and I haven't seen any other birds in our yard doing this
Nearly 10 years ago we had a brutally cold winter in Southern Ontario. I saw a pair of Cardinals (male and female) in the yard and they were actually digging in the ground looking for worms. (Normally this isn't their food choice) The male was sharing whatever he found with his mate - or Mrs. Cardinal - as I nicknamed her. It was a sight to see.
I think he was feeding a recent offspring who has grown nicely.
That will change after they get married........
My husband and I have a cardinal couple, too! We call them “Mr. and Mrs. Cardinal”. 😆 We love them so much. And it’s so sweet when he feeds her. 🥰
I love hearing them , they sound so nice and peaceful, we need to appreciate these simple things in life.
Made Fromscratch Yes , we do. They are gifts from GOD.
I love these birds and think it’s adorable that the male will crack sunflower seeds and give the seed to the female.
Vivian S i
Golden Runway ha, ha!
A lot of species of birds do this in some fashion
I thank God for the cardinal couple he sent to visit me when I was in a low place.
Yes...we often get "messages" by way of the animal kingdom. It's important that we pay attention to these little heavenly gifts.

True ❤❤❤
Awe that is so sweet. I believe that is something heavenly to see a cardinal. They are quite shy and elusive.
That is a an intriguing story, I have heard of similar accounts. My brother witnessed my father die from an extended illness, hours before his passing he told of a white horse he seen, minutes before his passing he said my white horse is here waiting for me and he passed.. One day we will all be together with God in Heaven amen...
Happy hearing, and even happier for you...Stay well !
@@petemavus2948 Thank you very much that is very kind, stay well too..
@valerie sweet story
Sad day. I miss him.
So terrible. People are awful
Some people are so NOSEY!! I can't stand nosey people.
So sad. Hope he survived.
Thanks for the molting info; we saw the pet Cardinal in our yard looking very beat up with almost every feather gone from its head and we assumed he lost a bad territorial fight. We felt so sorry for him. Now we know he was just molting.
My grandma always says, "If you see a cardinal, it means someone is thinking of you." :)
Just saw one a couple minutes ago. Brought me here
I agree...
It's also said that if you see one it represents one of your deseased loved ones. And my Grandfather who was Native American said it's good luck as well.
I think of my grandmother ego raised me when I see them .. the backdrop of my youth in southwestern Ont. 🙏💝🙏💝
They always fly across me when I driving. My favorite birds!
My favorite bird, and my father's, too. Several showed up at his funeral, as if to say that they somehow knew that.

Michael Gaynor really I just saw two of them in my backyard yesterday
I have cardinals in a tree by my house their are so many males they look like apples in the tree. Love them
In November and December when it gets really cold and snowy the cardinals all pack into the trees in our backyard.

I saw a cardinal yesterday. I feel so blessed. They are precious 🥰
Birds bring such beauty and joy into the world I'm so thankful God gave us these beauticul creatures to sing songs to us every morning 🥰
I saw several cardinals Saturday and late Saturday afternoon my town was hit by a heavy storm.
This summer I was filling up my feeder every day because I had so many juveniles coming to eat. It's hilarious to see a baby land on the feeder next to a parent, and beg for food while it's basically sitting in the food.
What do you feed them? I always have sunflowers seeds out for the birds but still no luck attracting Cardinals.
@@dorothyandrews8872 Usually all I put in my feeder is sunflower seeds. Are Cardinals common in your area?
@@ldever3 Yes they are, but not for me. see my post below
It's so hilarious and sweet, we had a really noisy little fella about a month ago who followed her mom everywhere. They can really throw a tantrum, complete with wing flapping that's ridiculously cute. Best laughs my family and I have had for a while, nice to see others getting to experience that joy :)
I love their songs so soothing especially at dusk. We have them in Florida too. We have beautiful birds here. I love your vids!
Hi... friend.

They are so fun to watch them are soothing for the soul ❤
Ah, Cardinals! I love watching them and listening to their beautiful chirps and songs. I never knew they “attack” their reflection. I also didn’t know how devoted the Dad’s are to their young. Another informative video, thank you!
I slept in the basement when I was younger, and I remember a Cardinal tapping on the window EVERY SINGLE MORNING, definitely for a few months.
That yellow cardinal is gorgeous. I hope to see one someday.
I have two sets of Cardinals around my cabin. I have watched them feed in the winter-red against the white snow!
Richard Bedard That's my favorite. Looking out my back window at a new snowfall seeing the cardinals in the tree.
Sheila Blische indeed
Saw 4 cardinals, all together, on my walk yesterday. They were a beautiful sight on a cold, gloomy Chicago day. ❤🐦
I live in south Florida, we have cardinals year round. Daily on my bird feeders & bird bath. They are def beautiful.

They are beautiful a sign from heaven some say
I watched a male cardinal I call "Pappa" call to his lady (I call her "Mamma") to gently offer her a peanut! So sweet!
I saw my first Cardinal last year at our feeder, I was so excited and happy to see it, so beautiful!
LOVE the cardinals, so great seeing a splash of color during winter months.
Awww, this was adorable! It's great to see others interested in birding helping each other out as well. Thanks for another educational and wonderful video, Lesley!
My favorite bird! They're our state bird in Virginia, too, so they're even more special!

I love that I have two pairs living in my garden. Watching them year round, everyday, is wonderful.
Cardinal in my neighborhood growing up called what sounded like "pretty bird pretty bird". Loved it.
I used to say the same thing. Cardinal sounds like they're saying "pretty birdie. Pretty birdie. Pretty birdie." Then, you have the chickadees saying "hey sweetie" : )
Haha, I hear "where'd he go, where'd he go?"
Watching them attack there own image is funny huh? Not when it's your car there scratching and defecating all over.
That goes for Robins too.
On a cold dreary winter day they are such a bright sunny sight.
What a blessing, getting to watch. All these people loving, and sharing, was wonderful. Best wishes ♥️♥️🙏🙏🇺🇸🇺🇸

I've had two breeding pairs in my yard for several years. They LOVE sunflower seeds.
As a little boy with a BB gun in her back yard, I remember when I heard MeMe say, "David, don't shoot the redbirds." I asked her why, and she said..."because they mate for life."
Imo, the most amazing thing about the song was, right after I wrote it, oddly I went out on my patio with my guitar to make a first ruff recording on my cassette recorder.
So much I didn't know----Thank you!
And thanks for giving credit to the people who helped!
My grandmother believed she'd come back as one. I'm wating for you, Lolo. Take your time.
There are many many people that believe that when they do see a cardinal, a loved one has returned to pay them a visit.
I'm coming back as a black crow!

I don't consider the females to be "dull". I consider them to be "camo" (camouflage) because they bear the young.
camouflage is dull. lol
Dull here is used in the sense of not having a vibrant color, not necessarily because their colors can be boring :)

Such a beautiful bird with its usual songs. Kudos for your video.
I get a lot of cardinals at my feeders. They love safflower seed!
I'm from Ohio, so I saw a lot of these over the years. Did you know they often times, at dusk, can be found as groups of 20-30 at reliable feeders? Usually during winter. It's beautiful to witness. Thanks for the video.
ABC 123 Wow, that’s awesome!
I just found your videos and I love them!! I can't seem to stop watching. Thanks for educating me on my backyard friends. :)
Thank you for your sharing! That was a perfect presentation of Cardinals!
😊🤗😊🤗😊
I have a lot of cardinals living around me. I once saw a yellow one and thought it was another bird that had a beak with other caractoristics like a cardinal. Thank you for this video. Now I will be trying to get a pic of him. ❤
Sometimes the cardinal call sounds like "pretty birdie pretty birdie pretty birdie". Then you have the chickadees chirping "hey sweetie". : P
I had a cardinal peck my house window for 3 or 4 years in row every spring. Never knew why till now
I dont know how it didnt break the glass or get concusion...but one would CrasH into the window I was trying to sleeping under for hours!!! ;(
Nightshift in Pa;)
I had the same thing happen with a titmouse for two or three years.
@@unclepush2895 eesh ....poor thing
A big thank you to you Lesley for this beautiful and entertaining video of one of the if not the most beautiful bird in the world. Blue Jays, Cardinals, Cockatiels, Pigeons and Mockingbirds are my FAVORITE birds.
Thanks for educating me on these beautiful neighbors of mine. This pair of cardinals have been providing me with delight in my backyard.
We also are very lucky to get a lot of cardinals here in northern Illinois. I’m watching three at the feeders as I write this.
Many thanks for putting together educational videos. All praise and thanks to God Almighty for all the beautiful things that He has created for us to enjoy, wonder and ponder.
I find it fascinating trying to imagine what their lives must be like.
Thank you for your awesome videos. Life is much more pleasant with them! ❤️
