Hand-feeding Birds in Slow Mo - Mourning Dove, Downy Woodpecker

- A male Downy Woodpecker and a Mourning Dove both visit the Hand of Snacks! I rarely get a Mourning Dove. The Downy seemed a little unsure at first about sharing but the Dove didn’t seem interested in leaving. Plenty of snacks for all! Video switches to real time after the Downy takes off.

Poor downy looks so shocked every time that dove reaches for another morsel. He’s waiting to be eat and the dove doesn’t like sharing. He’s like 🥺😱
Oh gosh. Birds are so beautiful. I love them and the little woodpecker is so hilarious in this video. The looks from him/her to a totally uninterested dove is like a little cartoon story. I've never seen a Woodpecker or a mourning dove. In UK I often hear woodpeckers but they aren't easily seen.

Don’t think I recall ever seeing hand feeding a wild mourning dove on yt before so this is pretty impressive to me even amongst all the other birds you’ve hand feed in other videos!

Mourning doves are notoriously mean to each other and to other birds. I have seen them pull out chunks of feathers. I agree with the downy to be wary.

I have both in the backyard this winter but they don't interact. Woodpecker in his suet and Dove on the ground... Thought only chickadees could be handfed !

My White Winged Dove is from the pet store. I'll try peanuts for him not by hand. In the food cup. He's not trained he's wild.

As for Mourning Doves, I'm not sure - sorry I don't have more info! They can nest in some odds places (like on top of lights and hanging nests.)

Pigeons will eat ALL food, leaving nothing for small birds. I guess Dove is similar to pigeon
I'm not fond of Mourning Doves, they are vacuum cleaners with wings. All the other birds take a peanut and fly off, the doves just suck up every seed within three minutes! But I just loved the Downie's reaction when the dove gobbled up that first peanut and went for more. 😄😄😄😄
