Just found your channel and a great video with much needed insights. We are in the process of doing the same thing ourselves. After an initial visit in March we are over again in late September looking at property and then another trip in January planned to check out the winter weather and more property...

I live in northern Finland and it would be amazing to retire in Madeira. I hate cold, darkness and snow and it's like 6 months of that in here🤭😬

Interesting to hear how Brexit muddied the waters and made things difficult for you.
I was half way through actually buying a house in Finland when Brexit hit and because of all the uncertainty about how things were going to turn out, such as whether I would end up with nowhere to live in England and owning a house I couldn't live in in Finland, it all fell through.
The loss of free movement is such a blow as it makes everything a hundred times harder and more fraught with risk, which is why the sensible and practical visa conditions for Portugal are so welcome! I don't have the resources to Golden Visa it but, if I sold up here in England, I would have the wherewithal to buy somewhere modest in Portugal and have no worries about funding the five year journey to residency.
Brexit!! It would have been such an easy process if the UK hadn't left the EU, but you've heard the saying anything worth having is difficult! Madeira is a gem and worth all the challenges. Follow your dream!
I can relate to your situation. Trying to decide about retiring early to Madeira vs waiting until I'm in my 60s.

How are you managing with Portuguese language ?
Hi Karen thank you for your comment and feedback! We started to learn Portuguese using apps and online videos but we do not find they help enough so we have just found a brilliant teacher who lives in Funchal and we had our first lesson with her on Tuesday. Even the locals who speak English tell us Portuguese is a very difficult language to learn but we are committed to learning 🥰🙌

Thanks for the confirmation. We toured the entire island last week. Drove nearly 500Km's in 4, of the 7, days alone. A beautiful place to visit for sure. We are still debating it being a possible retirement location for us. Bournemouth vs. Madeira (and Viana do Castelo/Oporto/Valencia/Malaga/Bilbao)?
