First I would confirm that the door lock actuator works. No sense in diving into a complex wiring problem if it's just a failed component. If you have some time you should be able to swap the actuator with the driver's side for testing purposes. If the actuator works then I would check the wiring at the driver's door. You might have to check both doors, but the driver's side door is used the most so the broken wire is probably there.
Hi Kevin, The cruise control on my 2003 Honda Civic coupe won't come on at all. It was working fine a couple of days ago. Is there a fuse or something I could change? Any suggestions on how to fix it.
Thanks for the how-to info on diagnosing the ground problem. Will try this on my 97 CR-V. It is probably a broken wire given the age of the truck, but I want to be sure before digging for a broken wire.
Sorry for the late reply. I'm not sure about your question. The "unlock" and "lock" buttons on your driver's door should unlock and lock ALL the doors to the car. If it doesn't, check to see if the power door lock switch on the passenger door works properly.
I know this is an old video. But I have a question about my power locks. Pressing the button like this doesn't work, no noise or anything. I can only manually put key in to unlock/lock as well as open handle to manually lock the door. I've checked fuses and changed ECU. Could this very well be the problem? I only have a test light probe. I'm desperate to fix this power lock. Also I used to have a remote key fob that stopped working so now everyone has to manually lock their doors.
Thanks man! You save me a lot of trouble and unnecessary job to do. I have Honda Shuttle(Odyssey) 1998 and the problem was the same. Thank you, again!!!
Where did you get the wiring extension? Did you just use wire and some attachment? My civic is doing the same thing and I need to repair the broken wire
I have seen the power lock control unit problem as well. It's hard to say because I think they are essentially the same problem just at different locations. Personally I would check the easiest thing first. If the power lock control unit is easier to check I would start there. Fixing broken wires in door harnesses is easy work if you have patience, it's a tight spot and can be frustrating.
In most cases it's a defective lock cylinder. They can become weak over time and eventually stop working. The proper way to diagnose the lock cylinder would be with a test light to confirm 12v and ground are being sent to the actuator. Just doing a Google search tells me you can probably get a replacement actuator for $25.00. While I'm not a big fan of just "throwing parts" at a problem, that's cheap enough to be a viable option.
Wow, thank you so much for this video. I had this problem on my 98' Civic LX for over a year... I knew it was a ground wire issue but I just didn't know how to fix it. It was a little more difficult on the 98' but the concept was the similar and I had to solder the connection because the break was so close to the connector. Thanks again for the vid
Nice Video! It open a new investigation for me as the fuses under the dash and under the hood are good. I have a question, would it be enough (a broken wire) to prevent keyless lock/unlock and remote starter lock unlock to work?
I have a 2010 Civic and my doors will lock repeatedly on their own but never unlock. I can hear mechanism inside the door panel repeatedly trigger. Then my signal lights will sometimes blink repeatedly. And then my horn will sometimes sound off during all of this. This will happen both when parked with no key in ignition and while driving. Any ideas?
what gauge wire should i use? i have a 2001 honda civic and only unlock works not lock, I found a white and blue cable that is broken in the door jam and think it might be that. I want to replace it but dont know that kind of wire i should use
My 95 Honda Civic has a mechanical issue with the driver side door lock. I replaced the driver side window channel. When I put the door panel back together, the lock seems to get hung up on something - the bar that connects to the door handle is my guess. Any ideas on how to fix this issue? I cannot turn the key in the lock either, now. Not sure what happened when I pulled the door panel off, but something changed and I don't know what. Can you help?
+Laurene Moffett I would think it's the door handle bar that is making contact. If you removed the bar make sure that you put it back on in the right configuration. Sometimes you can put them on backwards and they'll actually fit but make contact with other things, like your window track. If you're referring to the the actual lock and not the handle then that operates as designed, you're not supposed to be able to lock the door with the door open. A little trick is to hold the handle open then lock the door.
You mentioned this was a Honda Accord, I have a 2002 Civic EX all door locks but drivers will open/close with switch or keyless entry. You cant manually push the lock or close door with key from outside so im guessing its either a grounding issue or the actuator.
Good way to test and troubleshoot. Unfortunately for me and many others, this issue would be a godsend! I usually deal with issues where some locks work and others don't and my current issue is intermittent in nature in that the rear lock always work, but it randomly operates one, both or none of the front locks. Could be in the harness, or control relay and in some cars the ECM. Not as simple and much more challenging. I still liked this video, easy to follow with basic info that would work on many cars.
Nice vedio ....... a small question where can I get an original car system lock for my civic 2002 ? as the car I have is a basic one even the window is manual too .
i have a 01 civic ex coupe, and my passenger door lock is not working, do i proceed with the same steps you did on the driverside door to check the wires?
This is great informative video. I have a similar problem on a 2003 Pilot. The front passenger side Lock does not work either by remote control or driver side Central lock button. What should i do to diagnose the locking system?. Thanks in advance,
Hello. My Honda civic (2003 lx) driver side door will lock from the inside but not from the outside. Could my actuator be the issue or do I have to get a new lock? Thanks in advance for the input.
How can I unlock a civic hybrid when the battery is dead and nor the remote or the keys would work. I'm basically locked out of my car and can't change the battery since there is not way to get under the hood.
I have a weird problem where when my car is on and moving all the doors will lock when i command it but when I turn the car off and then press the driver door lock it doesn't completely go down it tries to but sticks up a bit and doesn't lock it. So I tried pressing it down but it doesn't go down by force. Now today I tried putting my key in the driver door to unlock and something was in the way not allowing me to insert all the way so I had to unlock from passenger side. Any help?
Sorry for the late reply. If you haven't resolved this issue yet, I can try to point you in the right direction. Some Hondas have a mechanical function of the latch that does not allow you to lock the driver door while the door is open. It sounds as if you might investigate the latch. A workaround for older Hondas and VWs with this feature is to simply lock the door while holding the door handle open (as if you were trying to open the door.)
When you say"from the outside"do you mean by sticking the key in the hole,or by pressing the "unlock" button on your key fob(remote control on your keyring) If it is NOT unlocking by sticking the key in the keyhole then you have a linkage problem from the backside of the keyhole to the door latch. If it is NOT unlocking by pressing the "unlock" button on your key fob then you need to check to make sure your key fob is working properly.Do other buttons on the key fob work? May need a new remote
Hi brother Great video 😊. Im Mike from London England, PLEASE HELP bro..... So unknowingly I've only gone and ordered a Dorman 741-736 window regulator which is for a USDM Civic's (Passenger side) so have just discovered that the regulators motor electrical plug is a 2 pin whereas on my UKDM Civic (Driver side) it's a 4 pin plug. So basically regulator and motor would fit as it's for the right side door, just theres 2 wires and a 2 pin plug instead of 4 wires and a 4 pin plug to connect to my UKDM wiring. Any ideas to work round this bro? Damn totally my fault I should've known plugs would be different being that RHD - UKDM and LHD- USDM, Totally my fault 🤦🏼🤣
I had my transmission replaced in my Hyundai Elantra 2010 when I got it back the auto lock for the doors stopped working where is the switch located on the transmisssion
Most of the OEM autolock features kick in around a certain speed or other various conditions. Does the speedometer work properly? Does your interior lights work properly (like do they come on when you open the door, etc).
my power door lock on my Integra does not work in any door..i test the actuator..and its good, check the wire harness...no break the wires...check fuse..it good also...help..thanks
He says the car is a Honda Accord but the video title and description says it's a Honda Civic. The door harness plug in my Civic is different than this. The wires in a Civic seem to break right at the connector in the floor harness. This video would be a lot more of a help to someone with an Accord than a Civic.

My doors lock wont lock, and when you hand lock it by using your fingers in the actual lock, the door wont close and the only way to unlock it is by pulling the door handle. I cant figure this out
I cannot open the driver door with my key because the lock got loose or something and now the key goes in but does no turn. The power locks still work though. What should i do? Now Every time i turn the car on the alarm goes off because i had to break in because i accidentally locked myself out.

I just connected the middle black one right to the door and it worked. Thanks Kevin!

This is the problem I have. How do you check the power door lock switch is the problem? Is it easy?
Tyvm man you save me from misery. Even though I already have replace the actuator

Yes.
Thank you for your answer, went to a garage and had 2 wires still connected and 6 broken!
@@kse666ful the point of the video is so that you dont have to pay a garage to do that! Lol

My 99 honda civic driver side door wont lock at all, manually or electronically, it doesnt even budge. Any ideas?
Thanks for the video! The dealer wanted to charge me $260 to replace the actuator.
Yeah, most cars an actuator can be the problem, however a proper test will tell you if it's a wiring problem or a mechanical problem.
what type of wire did you use to put it back together again?
How can I unlock a civic hybrid when the battery is dead and nor the remote or the keys would work. I'm basically locked out of my car and can't change the battery since there is not way to get under the hood.
What kind of tool did you use? I heard power pro? is it right? how much is the tool?
what tester do you use in the video? What is the brand name?

Marty Peters same issue on passenger side on a 03 civic hybrid.

Honda civic 7th gen offered in Pakistan didnt have this central locking button on inner latch nor on the power controls door trim

my power door lock on my Integra does not work in any door..i test the actuator..and its good, check the wire harness...no break the wires...check fuse..it good also...help..thanks
Thank you! Had same problem. I'll give this a go...
does this video work for 2006 honda civic lx?
Apologies for the late reply's life takes its toll on my internet usage.
How much you charge for that work nice
is it a civic or accord?
Dear Sir, where can I find the connector on the other side (right) door ? Thanks
Should be able to take a panel down and just reach up there. It takes a little talent to unplug it if you don't know what it looks or feels like.
He says the car is a Honda Accord but the video title and description says it's a Honda Civic.

awesome thanks for the adive. love it.
that was my problem also
Could that be the problem with my power windows?
My power unlock works when the car is on , when the car is off it does not work .
What year is your car?
thanks

i have This Problem too
What is this thing that you check the power?
This just happened to my accord...anyone know how to fix?
Electrical is so easy.
Ummm...that’s not a civic. Did you mean to title it like that?
hi
Why the hell people make videos at night !!!!
🤬
My doors lock wont lock, and when you hand lock it by using your fingers in the actual lock, the door wont close and the only way to unlock it is by pulling the door handle. I cant figure this out
