    To people saying this is a bad idea/don't use WD40/etc.:
    *This is a temporary fix.* When your Honda key and lock get to this point it means your key and lock are worn out and at the end of their useful life. *You are going to have to replace the lock and key anyway.*
    This happened to my Honda Element. I sprayed WD40 in and it was enough to let me unlock the door. Everything worked for several months and it seemed ok so I didn't worry about it. But suddenly one day this week my driver door lock stopped working. I could not turn the key, the lock was stuck at 45 degrees. Locksmith came and said my key was severely worn out. He had to cut me a new high security key and program it, cost $150. (Dealer charges even more.) *He warned me several times "Do NOT use your old key any more or you will ruin your ignition lock!"* It's even more expensive to get your ignition lock replaced!
    And I still have to get my door lock fixed!
    If it bothers you to spray stuff into your lock then you can always enter through the passenger door.

      I'm an automotive locksmith. Honda's are notorious for for having bad wafers (many of you call them tumblers). No other maker has this issue this bad. They have known about it for years and for some reason haven't addressed it. The door lock should have been rekeyed in addition to a new key. You will have problems down the road as only half of it was addressed. We use a spray called Houdini it's made for locks. Don't use graphite. That went out with high button shoes. These door locks a complete PITA to take out. Many YT video's on how to do it. If you are handy this is a DIY project. Buy a rekeying kit and fix your door locks without paying me $300. In all honesty they are such a PITA we send them to a mechanic to have them pulled and we will rekey them. I won't do them myself any more. Removing the the window 2 screws makes it a lot easier.

    Sadly, this didn't work for my 2015 Ford Fiesta (similar door lock control of the electric door locks). My key did and does go all the way in (works on the passenger side at same insertion depth, hence I'm still able to drive the car, locking and unlocking via the dash button), but won't turn more than a few degrees toward "lock" and even less toward "unlock". I suspect the mechanism behind the cylinder is jammed in some way and I'll wind up paying a body shop or locksmith to fix it... :(

  • @miguelquazar883

    2006 Accord EX. First my driver side door, then passenger side, now ignition. Door lock actuators are screwed which is why I started using the keys instead of the remote in the first place. I have had some shit cars before and have never had so many problems like this. F*** you Honda. They obviously used garbage components. It is still mechanically sound though. But like I said, never had so many issues on any other vehicle I have ever owned. The door locks are in sync. So one actuator failure lead to having to replace everything. The first time you get locked out, is the funnest time. It only gets better after that. Hondas are reliable, sometimes. But this uncommon crap gets pretty expensive after a while. I miss the 90's...

    Pro tip: don't use WD-40 in locks.
    The "WD" stands for "Water Displacement". WD-40 works great for keeping water off of and out of things, but it collects dust and will turn it into a gritty paste that will hurt your locks.
    If you're in a dry climate you can use a graphite or teflon based lubricant such as triflow.

    Thank you! This worked great! However, in my case, it was because the lock was frozen over AND a dying battery on the key fob so none of the doors would unlock with just the key fob. I sprayed a ton (and I mean A TON) of wd-40 into the driver key hole, and was able to get into my car but the lock froze up again so I couldn't open the driver door (could have climbed out the window or other doors, I guess lol).. Fortunately I had a pair of pliers in my car & yanked the lock up from the inside and sprayed more wd-40 into the keyhole! Oh yes! On the road again!

    It wasn't the door flap that you said was the problem since it DID allow the key to go in about halfway. Instead, it was most likely the inner lock "flaps" that were stuck and prevented the locking/unlocking process... thus allowing the key to turn and do its business. IMHO

    Mine was not a key problem, or to use WD40, or the electric actuator, or anything else not found in any of these videos.
    No, the problem was the lock cylinder shaft not being connected to the lock actuator that is connected to the cable, that in turn, moves the door lock knob.
    To fix this, there is a rubber cover that you remove, revealing a bolt that connects the key lock to the actuator. There is a 10MM bolt to remove, and then take out the door lock. Remove the key lock cylinder and reposition the shaft into the mechanism that turns the lock. Then your door lock is now fixed. I would have made a video about this, but its not my thing.
    Peace out.

      If the lock is actually frozen (usual hint: it's well below freezing outside and the driver door was facing rain or sleet before it got cold enough to freeze solid), windshield washer fluid is better than WD-40. Otherwise, as others have noted, this is at best a temporary fix, you need to at least get the lock cleaned and relubricated with the correct grease, as well as lock and key checked for wear.

    Used WD40 and lock loosened after one appication. I had stopped using this door lock more than 5 years ago because it was stuck. 1999 Ford Expedition.

    WARNING! I used triflow lube but a piece of the red hose broke off into the lock and i had to figure out a way to get it out, i used small allen wrenches, and it still didn't work for me, not saying it won't for others but for my cousin car it didn't work, her lock seems loose and worn out.

    So the locksmiths can replace the car lock? Or do i need to take it to auto shop or dealer?

    • @willwood487
      @willwood487  Год назад

      Yes they can. I find the locks are cheaper online. Locksmiths change tumblers to match the new Lazer cut key

    Gonna give it a try.. my alarm system had been weird. Main key won’t open now, but will the trunk. Radio goes out every now and then, have to put back code. New battery installed 2 months ago.
    Update… nope and since that happens and you could pop it with a coat hanger, or squeeze in the trunk as the key works there most likely… then had to go under car and unplug the car horn for the alarm. Makes it drivable at least and not a nuisance. But this didn’t work for me spraying.
    For me I checked the hinges and the key worked 3 times and never again. Something is a miss inside the door. I just can’t believe in my 2006 civic no key lock on passenger… that alone would solve 90% of my issues till I get the main door fixed.

    Thank you!!! I have 2004 Honda Accord and was thinking I needed a new door lock that would hundreds of dollars.. And what’s worst is for about 3 days straight I started leaving the door unlocked due to fear I would not be able to get it back open again; it got really bad. But I did everything you described in this video and it worked great! The easiest it has felt in years!! Thank you!

    • @nmr20067
      @nmr20067 8 месяцев назад

      @@Brandonjames8046 Yeah. I was doing that…. Because the author of this video is right. It does slowly come back. Luckily for me, I didn’t know until 6 months ago that my spare remote control lock still works…. That’s one option. If you can get a new battery in your remote lock if it does work already….

    All my key hole are messed up, never once I've experienced this with Honda but both Honda PILOT did this.. smh @ Honda pilot.
    Driver side key was able to go in further but still can't turn.
    Tried my back trunk and the straw got stuck. I tried everything and it wouldn't come out so I pulled it and now the tip of the straw is stuck in the key hole.

      Well not exactly. I heated up the key to try and melt it and to free it up. Got some but not all. Still doesn’t work. I think ya have to take it all apart is the best but looks like you have to have the right tools. Best of luck to you.

      Use a small flat screw driver to hold the "flap" open wile you insert the red" straw". Also i used fluid film when i did this. My key wouldn't even insert into the lock but after lots of spraying and in and out with the key it worked. Only on passenger side will try again with some grafite spray for locks. Hope this helps someone.
