    Just bought a clean 2005 Honda Civic. It wasn't until I came home that I realized the driver door doesn't unlock/lock with the fob. Pretty sure it's the actuator now after watching your vid. Thanks for the easy and clear instructions, man. I think you've saved me a lot of money from the mechanic. Any idea if installation is any different for a driver door? Thanks again

I have a 04 Sedan Lx and the driver lock won't go down it doesnt matter how much force I put into it, when I put my key in the fob it wont move at all in both doors, and I lock and unlock with the control and I can hear the locks trying to lock and unlock but the bearly move or dont move, do I need to replace all actuators or that box that sends the signal to all four doors?

    Thank you for the great video. Seems like these problems dealing with the window and lock actuator could also be blamed on worn out wires (the one that connects from the door to body of the car). How often do you think the wires are to blame?

    • @BigDog50001
      @BigDog50001  5 лет назад +1

      Sometimes wiring and connections are the problem, maybe 10% of the time. This happens more often in areas where there is a lot of corrosion. Most of the time it is a component failure. Thanks for the comment!

    I have a 01 civic 2 door, and I moved to Arizona from Michigan, and the car battery went dead at some point being in the sun maybe. So I replaced that, then it seemed like shortly after the key fob would not open the drivers door maybe 30% of the time. So I replaced battery in key fob but started doing it again. Its all original. The hand switch door lock button has always been not very forceful of a lock, and the passenger door has never locked/unlocked with the fob. I didnt know it was suposed to.

    Thanks for the very detailed video. I have a problem on my 2004 EP3 Civic, my drivers door would always lock, but not unlock with the fob. I would have to lift the rod manually for the last milimeter or two. I just replaced the door actuator with a new one, and the same thing happens. It locks, and ALMOST unlocks but it stops a few milimeters too short.
    Is it something to do with the rods? Do I just lube every single moving part inside and hope for the best?
    And my passenger side is fully dead, will get that fixed right after figuring this one out.
    Thank you

      @@neidyrodriguez7167 Sorry for the late reply, never got the notification.
      Yes, I did.
      After trying to fix the old actuator and putting the new one in I realized that the connections had no power so I investigated further, turns out the prior owner installed one of those "Universal central locking systems" and the actual actuators were just hanging there, connected by wires that went noowhere. And the universal locking ones have a rod that ties to the actual rod you see from the interior when u lock/unlock, and the clamp has loosened over time, so it didnt have enough grip to fully unlock it. So I got a new clamp, tied it back together tighter and it works now, very weird, I didnt even know those Universal ones were a thing so I never noticed the little black box inside the door card.
      And the Passenger side had no power to the Universal one either, and it turned out that one of the wires had a lot of corrosion at the connection point, so I just re-cut, re-splyced them, isolated and it works.
      Good luck

    When you click the key fab, or the door lock button in the car, and it does not lock or unlock, could it just be a bad fuse? Or could the whole internal fuse box be bad?

    • @BigDog50001
      @BigDog50001  5 лет назад +2

      It is possible to be one or both or a million other things. The locks are controlled by the Multiplex Control Unit which is part of the under DASH fuse box (inside car). Fuse 16 (20A) in the under HOOD fuse box (inside engine compartment) provides battery power to the Multiplex Control Unit for the door locks.

    I have a 2005 Honda Civic Dx, my windows are manual. My left door won’t open because the lock is STUCK. Can not open the door at all. I was wondering if the actuator is on the right side for my car as well. Also I stopped using my remote to open my car because the driver door doesn’t unlock when I press it. (I have to go through the passenger side and push it up). Is there a certain name for the wire/cable that connects to the lock?

    • @BigDog50001
      @BigDog50001  4 года назад

      Those Civics use rods (not cables) and there are several of them (cylinder rod/lock rod/outer handle rod/inner handle rod). Both sides are pretty much a mirror image. I have seen the door lock actuators become frozen and stuck and not move and other times it is an issue with the latch. Penetrating oil can sometimes help (spraying down through the window opening at latch/lock or through the inside door handle area and then working handles and rods back and forth). Unfortunately many times breaking stuff (like the door panel, latch, lock etc) so that you can get to the problem area is the only way to fix it.

    • @BigDog50001
      @BigDog50001  5 лет назад

      Hopefully the Multiplex unit is not damaged. The power to the door locks are ultimately controlled by the Multiplex control unit (part of the under dash fuse box) through electrical "inputs" to the control unit. If all of the locks work in one direction but not the other then most likely power is good to the Multiplex unit (still not a bad idea to check fuses 9 and 16 under hood and 10 under dash for power).
      I would verify that ALL power door locks do NOT work in one direction FROM EVERY SINGLE "INPUT" (key in door, key FOB, door lock switch).
      If ALL locks work in BOTH directions from at least ONE of the INPUTS, I would look towards an input problem to the Multiplex unit from the input that was not working (bad switch/FOB/wiring etc).
      If ALL locks do NOT work in both directions from ANY input, then I would look towards a problem with the Multiplex control unit.
      As you can see, troubleshooting this system can be a bit complicated and usually requires some background into how the system operates to find a problem when it isn't a bad door lock actuator. Hopefully this at least helps you understand what you are paying for if you end up paying someone else to fix it for you.

    I have an 03 civic sedan manual trans, I replaced the driver side actuator OEM from Honda.
    Fuse for door locks in engine bay is fine. Yet, all doors only unlock from both key fobs but will not lock.
    When sitting in the car with all doors closed, all doors lock if I manually push down the door stud.
    The unlock/lock switch on the door handle only unlocks all doors. Same as the key fobs
    So now I have a spare actuator but no solution. Please help. Anybody know if there’s a component or relay or something I should check. So annoyed. Thanks.

    • @BigDog50001
      @BigDog50001  6 лет назад +1

      It is almost impossible to diagnose things over the internet and you did not say whether problem was there before or after putting a new door lock actuator in, but I would look for input problems to Multiplex Control Unit first (I have seen Multiplex unts fried due to improper installation/testing of components so hopefully the MICU is not damaged or bad).
      From your description, the doors lock properly when manually pressing door lock rod, so power and ground to locks appear to be ok. If you look at 12:45 in video, you will notice doors do not lock until door contact switch input is closed (which I did by hand). If the door switches or wiring from them to MICU are bad, the doors will not lock.
      This is where I would start on your vehicle if I had it in shop. I would check for proper operation of switches at all doors and see if I can verify proper operation of them either through scan tool, interior lights or locks themselves.
      I would not fire more parts at it until I could find the problem. Good luck with the repair.

    In which part of the car is the module of the electric locks?, since a door of my Civic 2004 does not receive electrical signal, but if the actuator works that raises the insurance

    • @BigDog50001
      @BigDog50001  6 лет назад

      The locks are controlled by the Multiplex Control Unit (MICU) which is part of the fuse box under left side dash inside vehicle. If lock actuator works when given power/ground, some possible causes are broken wires, bad wiring connector or bad Multiplex Control Unit. **I do not give any lock component power/ground while plugged in because it can damage the drivers inside the MICU.

    My key fob unlocks the doors, but then instantly locks them. The driver door won't open at all. The only way to get in the car is to quickly open the passenger door before it locks again.
    It happened once before in winter when the door latch froze.
    Could this be an issue caused by the door latch itself?

      It is possible there is a problem with one of the door latches, it sounds like an input problem. It needs troubleshooting done but the control module is most likely seeing an input to lock the doors and so have to narrow down what is causing the input.

      @@BigDog50001 thanks for the reply, I think the door latch failed when closing the door, the door bounced back open, whilst I had set off driving. I managed to flick the lock to keep the door shut. This has probably triggered some safety feature to auto lock the doors (because the car was moving)
      Now I just need to get the door card off somehow without being able to open the door.

    Need help, same car. But I can't manually lock or unlock the rear door lock. It won't move. I can't open the door panel because I can't open the door. The lock won't unlock.

      Sometimes the lock mechanisms or the latches will seize in place and they can be a bear to get undone. I would start by removing the door handle like I showed at around 6:30 in the video and try to work the lock rod and door hand rod back and forth. In situations like that I will sometimes lower window and spray penetrating oil down towards lock and latch rods and mechanisms. Sometimes damaging the door components is the only way they get fixed.

    What happened or what to check for if i don't get 12v power to the door actuator

      Have to track power (or ground) circuit back to the source (battery/chassis) until you find where you are losing it. Have to know circuit design and all components involved in that circuit.

      Big Dog50001 Automotive thanks for the video helped me out a lot and I did this today and it worked. No more having to unlock the door from the inside to get it to open which I hated doing

      Double check work, especially the door lock knob that pokes out of the top of the door panel, they can get jammed during reinstall and do what you are describing.

      A test light at one of the door locks that aren't working is where I would start.
