half hearted, not serious "attempts" are manipulation, yeah. someone who is actually at a point where they're going through with it, actually with the intention to do it successfully and 100% convinced that it will be, isn't thinking about manipulating anyone. someone in that situation doesn't really give a sht anymore about what happens to anyone after they're gone. no benefits in manipulating anyone if you're not around anymore anyway. the manipulaters are those who take a few pills (of which they're usually sure that they won't bite the dust from), then get themselve to the er, or let someone drive em, spent a day there, then another day or two get a psychological evaluation, then get told to get into therapy (which more often than not, they won't do, of course) and later on simply call it "overdose" and an "attempt." or those who scratch their underarms/wrists a bit, and then pretty much the same as after the pills example. and regarding the "cowards way" part. that's simply not how someone's, who actually intends to/is about to do it, brain works anymore. there's no reason or logic in most cases anymore, as well as a simple concept such as cowardice simply doesn't apply anymore then.
