For anyone wondering, this car is a replica of Kurt Busch's 2010 Penske Dodge. Specifically the version used for the first five races of the season before they switched back to the traditional spoiler. Glad to see the COT still getting some love after all this time!

This has to be one of the best sounding videos in the history of the internet. Just looking at Becky tremble from hearing this when previously she stood next to a straight piped Caterham with no reaction at all tells you enough about this engine. Imagine 40+ of these beasts at full race pace. What a beautiful thing.
It is a beautiful thing....especially at a Superspeedway like Talladega with the pack of 40 running 200+mph and the engines screaming at 9,000 rpm. It will raise the hair on your arms. The best music on earth

This is fantastic as it brings back memories of the early 2010's till 2014. Those engines were absolutely brutal. Too bad he barely got to 8k, those engines lived at 9500 -10300 RPM all day. But, given how wet the tunnel is, and it LOOKS like the show car is on slicks, it's no wonder he didn't push it that hard.

Awesome but a second series?! A Tatra 603 B2 La Route or something like a Chaparral 2C would sound ludicrous down here. This was great though. The Superbird was the iconic noise beater in classic Nascar however. Becky looks the nonsense as usual, all deeply toned on such racing pageantry. Would make a great sound tuner for the Stig!!
well yea, but this isn't a race environment, and the engine likely hasn't run much minus a few events here and there and some maintenance fires. Best to not take it to the the ragged edge so whoever has to keep that engine pristine doesn't have too big a tear-down job.
best thing that has happend to drifing in europe is that some skandinavian dudes bougth a containerload of 550-700hp nascar v8s and started throwing huge ammounts of nos at them. a true joy to witness. for example, check out lauri Hinonen´s s13
Fun fact, it was never confirmed but it was strongly rumored that around the time of the gen 5 and Gen 6 nascar. A nascar team owned a tunnel and did outlawed aero dynaimics testing in them with their nascar
It's too bad there isn't enough grip down there to get the power down, sounds like it was using 1/3 of it's power, he only revved it out to about 7000 too. There are no words to describe how insane it is to witness these older NASCARS from before they were restricted and dialed back in 2015. 9000+ rpm at over 200 mph is UNREAL to experience in person.
This is correct, the stig said that he couldn't get the power down fully even in 3rd gear and was still struggling for grip with a big issue being tyre temps
Bring a gen 4 super speedway monte carlo cup car from 1998-2007 with the X-pipe and THEN you'll hear a scream like no other. That car was loud, but get a superspeedway gen 4 car? Itll sound like a dang FIGHTER JET roaring by.
The car was really struggling due conditions in the tunnel especially the moisture, he could even get the power down fully in 3rd gear so didn't want to push it too far.
This engine note sounds like the current NASCAR truck series engine. Still badass! I’d imagine it’s really hard to find the original +9000 RPM engine in one of these today, but I’d love to hear that engine rip down the tunnel!
@@Zippydippity yeah, if you listen to this car and the current NASCAR truck series engines, they sound the exact same. Watch any NASCAR cup series qualifying video from 2009-2010 (when this car was raced), you can definitely hear that engine go well over 9,000 rpm
From 5:10 - 5:40 with my blue tooth cranked up is why I'm here. What a brutal haunting muscular sound from beginning to end. Now I wish my Cherokee Limited had a nascar motor instead of my Penastar v6 motor.
That's the "afreid" cousin of STIG, he gently accellerate and changed gears at 7000, those beasts handled over 9000rpm back in the days, but I got it, it scares me a hell of with a beast like that at over 300 km/h in a tiny tunnel😂😂
Considering he was snapping the tires loose every time he goosed it in second gear, I don't really blame him for being a little conservative with it. Even only pulling to 7000 got the point across, although it sounded more like a restrictor-plate motor at those RPMs than the howling beast you would've heard on an intermediate track.

You seem to be the only other person here besides me who knows that. Clutch is only used to start and to get rolling. But every video I see of someone driving a stock car, they use the clutch...
@@theoriginalshew Honestly, I think it's just that they don't know. They see an H-pattern shifter and a clutch pedal and immediately drive it like you would drive a regular road car with a stick shift.
Dear Top Gear editorial staff, NASCAR is the name of a sanctioning body. It is not the name of the cars that compete in the races run by the sanctioning body. Nobdy from the sanctioning body itself, from TV broadcasts of the races, or American motorsport and automotive-specific media referrs to the cars as NASCARs. You wouldn't say "The current FIAs are too big for Monaco” or “I'm going to see the TOCAs at Brands this weekend” would you? Same situation here with NASCAR.

It wouldn't Grip! It was spinning the Wheels up into a near Burnout at 7,000 in Third! , if Stig had used full Power it would have thrown itself into the wall, just no Grip, Catesby is cold and damp, and Slicks *hate* cold and damp..

@@dibarel Yes, during a flare of Wheelspin that snapped the Car Sideways, even Restricted it was too Powerful for the Available Grip, which goes a long way to Explain why NASCAR events are Red Flagged when it Rains.

Not the same tunnel. This one's modeled after the famed Laurel Hill tunnel, but it's in Northamptonshire, UK.
