Gail, I've been watching sewing/tailoring videos on RUclips for the past few years. Your channel just came to my attention today. You should have more subscribers! You're very thorough in demoing and explaining. You also have topics that are valuable to me even though I don't have a cover stitch machine. I can see why Bernina's are so wonderful!.
Thank you! BERNINA makes amazing sewing machines and sergers but there are also other wonderful machines by various manufacturers. Feel free to ask any questions you have.
Gail, you never cease to amaze me.
Hi Merry, I love the Raindrop Stitch too-thanks for watching!
Oh my Gosh!!! I Want this MACHINE!!! You are incredible Gail!
@@1daizie The L890 is an amazing machine. If you decide to purchase it, contact me before you buy and I will send you a $100 rebate coupon, but you must let me send it prior to purchase. These are strict BERNINA guidelines. Thanks!
@@GailPatriceDesign Thank you so much. I have a Pfaff 4862. Great combo serger, but, I have never used the chain or cover stitch on it as there are so many steps to get there. Now I am getting arthritis and making it hard to thread the loopers. I really love the features on the L890. You inspire me. I am so very grateful for your detailed instructions. All manufactures of machines should have videos like you do for their customers to watch. None of the quality machines are cheap. I am grateful for you...
@@1daizie What a nice compliment-thank you. Air threading loopers is super convenient for so many reasons. It's faster, no threading sequence is necessary and it's much easier on our hands. Let me know if you have questions and I'll always be happy to help you and thanks for watching!
Love this! Three in one!
Pretty amazing isn’t it? Thanks for watching Serger Tip Clips!
I just bought the Bernina L890 and have been unsure of using it. Now that I've found your videos, I am learning so much about this particular serger and anxious to try your techniques. I am binge watching and am so appreciative of your teaching.
Hi toby, Congratulations on purchasing the L890. You'll love it more and more. It's the best serger on the market! Please reach out with any questions and I'll be happy to help you get to know the machine. The possibilities are endless! Also my email is: gail@gailpatrice.com if you want to send questions or pics. Thanks for watching!
Gail. This is amazing!! Can’t wait to try this.
@@berylhostetter7513 It’s a great edge finish for various knit fabrics. Looks best with 8-wt thread. Thanks for watching!

so talented. I appreciate all your tips. I'm loving my L-890!
Hi Paula, The L890 is such an amazing machine and the ability to auto set stitch tensions and/or tweak them, makes decorative techniques such fun. Thanks for watching!
Paula, do you remember me? Lynn Leipold. Did you get your L890 in Greenville? We have moved to Fort Mill just south of Charlotte. I got one from a store in Charlotte. Miss you and Leslie and Marge and everyone at the store in Greenville. Say “hi” for me.
@@lynnleipold2617 I bought mine in Muskegon, MI while visiting a store...great salesman but I don't regret it one bit. I love it! I am so grateful Gail Yellen is on RUclips...she is such an inspiration and SOOOO talented!

You’re welcome Kim! Thanks for watching Serger Tip Clips!
Wonderful video. Thank you
Glad you like it, Lynn and thanks for watching!
Wow, I love that raindrop stitch! I reminds me of the hand embroidery chain stitch. I have a Babylock Ovation. I'm definitely going to try it out though. Thanks Gail, wishing you and your family a very Happy Easter!
Hi Nancy, it does look like a hand stitch now that you mention it. Hadn’t thought of that. You’ll get good results on your Ovation. The raindrops won’t be quite as long 7.5mm instead of 9mm, but will look great. Have a lovely Easter too. Thanks for watching Serger Tip Clips!
@@GailPatriceDesign I always need all the help I can get with my serger. I love using this machine, but I have to admit I am still a little intimidated by it. Even after owning it for almost 5 years. I'm not quite sure why...so please keep making serger tips clips, because I watch and re-watch them all..thanks again Gail..
@@nancygross9422 Glad to be of service!
Super fun 🤩
It really is and there are so many decorative possibilities on a great serger! Thanks for watching Serger Tip Clips!
I have never used stabilizer on fabric. After you showed us the beautiful effect of the second example, how do you remove all of the stabilizer without damaging the fabric and stitching?
Thank you.
Hi, the fusible stay tape remains on the fabric. Because it’s on the wrong side nobody will see it. Stay tapes are very helpful especially for garment sewing. They keep edges from stretching (shoulder seams and bias grainline seams) as well as make certain unruly fabrics more manageable. They are great for hemlines that require more body to hang beautifully. Let me know if you have more questions. They are available in my website store gailpatrice.com. Thanks!
Hi Gail. Love. What size topstitch needle please?
Thanks!
Hi Nancy, I almost always use a 90/14 topstitch needle and definitely did for the Wrap Me Up and the sample in the cover shot of the Tip Clip. Hope all is well with you! Thanks.
Gail, what size needle did you use in the left needle for the 8wt thread? Thanks! Penny Somerset
Hi Penny, I used a 90/14 topstitch needle . The easiest way to thread a needle with thick 8 wt. thread is to use a thread cradle through the needle eye. Let me know if you have more questions and thanks for watching Serger Tip Clips!
Can youi give a suggestion of how much pearl rayon to use on a hem?
Hi Karen, it depends on what you’re hemming. But I don’t start with less than 3/4 of a spool so that I don’t run out 10 inches before the finish line. A tip (from experience): when testing a stitch settings use the same type thread but in a different color to avoid running out of the intended color for your project.Let me know if you have more questions. Thanks for watching Serger Tip Clips!
Would this work as a nice finish for Minky fabric?
Hi Christine, I haven’t tried it on Minky, but it probably would look great. If you try it, let us know for future reference and thanks watching Serger Tip Clips!
Can these be done on my Triumph?
I believe so. Set up for a 2-thread overlock the same way as the video: topstitch needle with decorative thread, engage subsidiary looper, serger cone thread in lower looper. And the fabric edge will look best with knit stay tape (or woven if you aren't using a knit), wrong side up. Your raindrops won't be quite as tall but should look fine My L890 has a 9mm wide stitch and the max on a Triumph is 7.5. Let me know if you need anymore info and thanks for watching!
