You should def visit Egypt again. It’s a beautiful country. Just make sure you have local friends to guide you throughout ur trips and join u in the very touristy places so that people don’t bother you.

They even used some of the bricks from the collapse ancient lighthouse to build the fortress. Alexandria is a beautiful city when you go back hit the library, catacombs and mango ice cream. 🫡

You didn't let anyone down Chris, that was a nice little video of Alexandria. You did quite a lot, the Street from the Hilton, an uber ride, shopping, boat ride, citadel, ice cream and a great mooch about. Cheers

The fort was built at the place where the lighthouse of Alexandria once stood. It used what was left of the Ptolemaic building once stood.
As for the purpose of the fort, its was to defend Egypt from the Crusaders who invaded the land several times with no success.

When I used to live in Egypt 25 years ago I used to pay after I got the service not in upfront like what you are doing and I used to give tip for the labor sometimes in upfront to get good services or I say if you give me good service I will give you tip but if I didn’t get the good service I will not give the tip or I give small tip .
Most of the labor are very poor and tip if you convert to the foreign currency it is few cents you make them happy and you will get excellent service and at the end it is your choice you pay tip or not it is up to you .
Egyptians people are happy people and they love the foreigners ., thanks for sharing your experience .

When I was little I always asked myself how do I get to the citadel and you brought me there today. Alexandria is much different from Cairo
I visited Egypt with my Greek husband and we experienced a lot of what you experience with people because we were also considered tourists it was very tiring
Having said that, people in Egypt are very poor and they live off tourists
It’s a doggy dog world for them

Chris, your videos on Egypt brings back memories….I visited there back in 1985 while in the military….It appears that it hasn’t changed much except for new buildings….The “street hawkers” or supposed “tour guides” really are relentless….even the camel driver at the Giza Pyramids tried to rip me off…I did purchase some interesting souvenirs, including a concentrated perfume ingredient which actually my wife enjoyed…😅

Really enjoyed the video, Chris. Very entertaining views and walk thru that amazing fortress built on that very ancient site, even if you didn't know it's origins it was fantastic, boat ride well worth it, too. That 1st vendor, glad you didn't pay more to his pushy dishonesty, and the 2nd one so much friendlier and seemed way more honest with you, well done, brother. Touts are everywhere so stay strong and safe with them, best to avoid how you do already. Stay Healthy, Happy and Safe, brother, and get some charcoal tabs for your stomach issues for around the world, caution on not so safe/clean street foods, but hotels sometimes much worse if not eating early AM or at high end. Also, longer queues usually mean much safer street eats, too.

Thats not true, tipping culture is around in most tourist countries. I was in Alexandria last year and tipped restaurants, taxis and people on the steet if they gave me good service or if they helped me find somewhere. Tourist destinations rely on it and the dollar/euro is so strong that a few egyptian to give is not only an act of kindness and appreciation, it also has little affect on the tourists pockets.

    • @HasnaaAlaa
      @HasnaaAlaa 7 месяцев назад +2

@@waterbearer4627 I'm guessing you're not Egyptian which proves my point that only foreigners are expected to tip, by all means tip people who are working in the tourist attractions, they definitely depend on it but it shouldn't be demanded from you, you should do it of your own volution if you want, Chris was asking Egyptians if tipping was normal, so as an Egyptian I was answering, it's expected of foreigners because the Egyptian pound keeps getting devalued compared to the US dollar unfortunately and people's livelihood are threatened but as an Egyptian it's not expected of me to tip because I too don't have US dollars and am struggling to make ends meat too, it's why you see the prices for things like trains or museum tickets be different for foreigners than locals, if you're a rich Egyptian or a foreigner sure go ahead and tip but it's not like in America where everyone is expected to tip their waiters etc, we're more like Europe where no one tips with the exception that foreigners are expected to tip in tourists spots in Egypt unlike in Europe, hope this made sense

You have to try Seafood there, there's a famous place named "Abdo Farag" it's very close to the citadel, also you have to drop into the Montazah palace and enjoy the beaches there.

Tipping is common in egypt ! Usually we pay and tip them after. If you give you like 20 pounds should be fine

    Hey Chris
Lovely vlog in Alex I see you've gotten right there. I hope you enjoyed your time right here. There is just a small heads up regarding the tips part. The boat guys didn't really seem to speak English so when you gave them the LE 150 they asked "tips?". They didn't do that because they wanted tips but it's because they knew it is extra and they wanted to know whether the extra was a tip or not, but I believe there might've been some miscommunication there; sorry this happened to you. I don't truly know their intentions but it seemed like that to me - so I could be mistaken.
A small tip, they do say have a local on you when you're in Egypt. This isn't cause Egypt is unsafe or unmanageable when you're solo, it's simply cause Egypt through an Egyptian's eye is different and you might enjoy that too.
I hope one day you'll pay Egypt a second visit, and looking forward to more of your vlogs 😊😊 cheers

That train ride was expensive and no that money doesn't go to maintenance. It goes to their pockets. Like everywhere else

As Egyptians we don’t need to tip unless we want to. Generally, Egyptians are kind they’re just poor so whenever they find a tourist they know he could give them a great tip so they ask for it. They don’t mind asking before the trip tho they just want the money!

First of all, I am sorry for your stomach, it is normal when you change from a place to place cause of the weather I guess..
2nd thing, if you are still in Alexandria you can go visit the Catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa, it is a wonderful and special place, there, you can see the historical line between the Ancient Greek and the Ancient Egyptian, hope you go there , must be early morning ...
Thanks for the video, I love Alexandria, it is a wonderful place in winter and summer ❤ and thank you for your love for Egypt ❤
You are a really super nice and patient guy ❤🎉
