I love your finish of all four of the Seasonal Etchings and love how you plan to display them on those little wooden shelf type easles. I also love your Inspired by Nature piece by Quaint Rose Needlearts - it's absolutely stunning and I love your idea of thinking of it in terms of a collage. I always love watching your videos and always come away inspired and eager to try new things and improve my stitching in some way. Thank you both for your inspirational and encouraging videos.
I think it's invigorating for us all to be trying new things! And I'm so grateful that we can share our ideas with each other. I wish you could hold one of Carolyn's little finishes - they are quite dear. Happy Crafting, Lorraine! -Anna
What an uplifting video fueled by your curiosity, creativity, enthusiasm, and positivity! Thank you for being a refuge and helping us forget all the troubles in the world, at least for a time. Wow--stitching with linens sewn together and collage...that's a whole new world of possibilities. Carolyn...with regard to making braid. I always get a DMC that matches what I want to emphasize to use for making my braid. It is so much cheaper and color variegation doesn't show up anyway if you use overdyed. Just an idea. Also, I watched Olivia B right before this, and she was making up silk kits for the KB North Pole pattern so you'll have it soon. Wishing you time and energy (after those long school days) to create!
Thanks for your kind words. Using DMC for braid is a brilliant idea, Karen! And, haha, Carolyn and I both received our silk packs for "North Pole." We did a floss toss over the weekend and are ready to start when the time is right. :) Happy Crafting! -Anna
How is it that Carolyn and I just keep having more and more fun with cross stitch?! And I agree, those socks will brighten anyone's day! Happy Crafting, Sherry! -Anna
Great video! I think you did an excellent job sewing the two different fabrics together, Anna! That would be so hard!! All the FFO’s looked so good! Happy stitching!❤
Your card finishes of the seasonal etchings (and the saltboxes) are fabulous, Carolyn! Just genius! Anna, your start on the Nature design is amazing! Seeing yours and your explanation for sewing the 2 linens together was impressive and inspirational. I still don’t know if I will do it, but it has got me contemplating it. Loved all of your video and thanks for sharing! xx
Those little flat finishes look as happy as can be when you walk in the door of Carolyn's house - so cute! I am really liking the look of the two linens together and am certain I will do it again! Let me know if you end up trying it! Happy Crafting, Tricia! -Anna
I liked the inspired by nature pattern, so I'm glad to see it being stitched here. The more I see it, the more tempted I'll be. I really appreciate learning from your discussions on using 2 fabrics for 1 pattern.
I think there will be more sewing linens together in my future - I really like the effect. Let us know if you decide to start "Inspired by Nature!" Happy Crafting, Tanya! -Anna
Love the BAP switch Anna! The Inspired by Nature chart is just beautiful and I love that you went for it with joining the fabrics. Carolyn I’m loving your small finishing, I think I’m going to have to steal that idea of the frame holder for flat finishes, so clever!
I can't tell you how great the smalls look in the wooden holders, Lauren! Santa should bring a few to every stitcher this year. ;) Happy Crafting! -Anna
A library of charts is a good thing! The smalls feel so good to give away…especially when you are giving them to people who understand and appreciate the work in the item. Yes let’s support the Artsy Housewife…the patterns are lovely and Evertote is going to do conversions of more patterns…of course I asked them to get the owl design.
I really like the "Oona Owl" pattern, too. The Artsy Housewife's bird patterns call to me. Carolyn and I started "Pretty Bird" over the weekend. She started top right and I started center, so it will be fun to compare progress! Happy Crafting! -Anna
You're welcome! Carolyn and I continue to feel this endeavor is well worth the effort. Thanks for your steadfast commenting, Linda, and Happy Crafting! -Anna
Another great video! I really enjoyed my class with Kathy Barrick at the Hobby House retreat and… I had breakfast with Kathy and Liz the first morning of the retreat! After seeing Carolyn’s White Winter Moth I had to purchase the chart from Kathy’s trunk show at the retreat.
Great video! So many great projects and things to comment on. 1 - sewing pieces of linen together- Blackbird Designs has two small charts in the Garden Club series that involve two stitched pieces together - but I think the instructions just say to line the two fabrics together carefully. And although I stitched the two little pieces I have not sewn them together yet. That system of going back and forth sounds intriguing, but if the linen threads had variations in thickness (those very skinny threads you sometimes get) that might throw things off and make fabric pucker. 2 . Framing at Michael’s - I’ve heard mixed reviews- some stores have framers who know how to work on stitched pieces and some don’t. Some people have to go back to get mistakes fixed. 3. Peace on Earth - I saw that on OliviaB’s Instagram and loved it, but when I went to her Etsy shop, it wasn’t there. I had to go to 123Stitch and order it! It just came today! And I have a piece of 36 straw in my stash - but none of the NPI silks. It’s such a pretty design! 4 Ginkgo trees - there’s one near me in Alexandria and it’s beautiful. Near my daughter’s home in San Rafael, there’s a street on one of the hills with a whole row of gingkos and to see them against the bright blue sky looking out over the town in just stunning! Enjoy your fall weather - and I hope you really do get rain!
I love a numbered list! :) 1. I was expecting some puckers in the seam I made, and was really pleased with the results. So maybe using linens from the same maker was more important than I gave it credit for. 2. We've heard this about Michael's, too. Carolyn and I don't know any stitchers in our area, so maybe we should just stop in and start with a conversation with someone in the framing department to gauge knowledge. 3. Can't wait to see your "Peace on Earth" once you start it, Trudy! 4. Yay for Ginkgo's! My daughter was fascinated by them when she was young because she heard a fact about what an old species they are. :) Happy Crafting! -Anna
Fantastic!! What can I say Anna & Carolyn love what you do♥️ so much fun seeing your finishes & what your WIP’s are and plans …of course I’m in KB club 😁….Hillside Rookery has been my go to since opening 🥰. hope to be back Stitching by first of year much to catch up on😆 take care see ya next time 🧡🎃🪡🧵
So excited for you to be all healed up and back to stitching, LaNelle! Hillside Rookery has been fantastic all along and just keeps getting better and better! Carolyn and I just received our silk packs to stitch "North Pole" (the new Kathy Barrick Santa). -Anna
Time with you just flew today! So many pretties. You're both so talented. Years ago I stitched a pattern by Forget-Me-Nots In Stitches called "Moonlight in the Faeries' Garden." It had dark blue fabric (for sky), green (for grass) and sand (for pathway) that needed to be joined together. I put a basting stitch in a contrasting colour in all of them, and just handstitched from one fabric to the other into every hole, one row above the basting line, till they were joined. I kept the thread pretty loose and went back and pulled it tighter once I got near the end. My finished piece was about 7" side to side, so slow going but not tons of fabric to deal with. Stitches didn't necessarily match up perfectly but worked out regardless. Still one of my favs. Sounds like you've got a method that works well for you and the piece looks great so far. Seems Carolyn has super speedy needles. The peacock, bagder and whole gang of animals all look great. Take care, and happy stitching, Arleen
Thanks for describing this technique, Arleen. I may have to try it next! Carolyn is one of those people who steadily makes progress day-by-day, and it adds up to a lot of x's and so much beauty! Happy Crafting! -Anna
Love seeing you again ladies. A lovely mix of projects and plans. I'm working on Spring at Hawkrun Hollow at the moment and if the squares are as big on the houses as Spring, each one is 90 by 90 stitches. Not sure if it would work with your little blocks but definitely doing them as separate pieces would be a little less daunting. Enjoy it when you start it.
Hi Kim! I'm curious to see when Carolyn starts her Hawkrun piece and how she decides to stitch it! What are you enjoying about your Hawkrun? Are you stitching from top to bottom? Happy Crafting! -Anna
Another great visit with you two. Thank you! I love seeing what you are working on and tonight I was going through my WIPs to pack for a weekend away and after seeing some of your pieces, I may have to kit up a new project tomorrow! I should be working on ornaments, but I'm still in a Fall mood.
As we all say, "Stitch what you love!" And if fall stitching is calling to you, the ornaments can wait - haha! Enjoy whatever you choose and Happy Crafting, Deb! -Anna
Such a fun video! I love your switch to a new BAP, Anna. And sewing those linens together is really neat. Your students are lucky to have you teach them sewing. I am very close to starting Autumn at Hawk Run Hallow, Carolyn. I just got the NPIs from Olivia B. and am waiting on some linen from Cedar River. There was a recent post of the Houses of Hawk Run Hollow where the stitcher personalized it with different addresses, and then put a quote about home in the last square. Great idea!
Berry Bowl is stitched after. I was going to do this with a friend. I have instead stitched both sides on two different fabrics and am now to the point of stitching them together. I did watch the tutorial you mention but also was given a lesson from a friend that showed me how a finisher sewed them together where you stitch a running stitch on each piece and then you use those stitches to stitch it together. I have stitched mine but have not attempted to stitch them together yet.
Hi Anna - for some reason it won't let me reply to your question but I am loving that even though it's a huge piece, finishing each square is like a finish. I've changed the layout on mine from 2 across by 6 down, to 3 across by 4 down so it's not quite as long and thin as the original. I figure it might be easier to frame. I've nearly finished my 4th square - so almost 2/3 complete (Spring has a banner across the top which I've outlined but not stitched)
Thank you so very much for all of the kind words, ladies!! You're support and encouragement mean so much. And thank you for doing the Kathy Barrick Fan Club proud!! Carolyn, I may need to start Peace on Earth too. It's such a great one.
Sure thing! Olivia, Carolyn and I are thrilled with the "North Pole" silk packs - thank you. We did a floss toss and ended up choosing the same linen. If you start "Peace on Earth" I won't be able to resist joining the fun! Happy Crafting! -Anna
I love hearing the ideas bounce between you- so much fun, so many creative ideas!!! Your enthusiastic attitudes toward stitching, trying new things, knitting, family, everything you talk about-wonderful!
Thanks, Linda! I feel fortunate to have a sister like Carolyn with whom to explore crafting (and life)! Thanks for joining in the conversation, and Happy Crafting! -Anna
I really like the two linen pieces sewn together, Anna! It is a unique pattern and something we do not often see designers do with their patterns. But this question is for both of you: What happened to your Fruits of Plenty and the assignments? Are they in time out??? LOL Happy stitching you two!
It's so funny the way our energy for "The Fruits of Plenty" has ebbed and flowed. I haven't even thought about it recently! I'll have to check back in with Carolyn about this. I still love that piece and want to finish it. Joan's probably going to beat us to the finish line! Happy Crafting to you too, Stacey! -Anna
I take most of my reproduction samplers to a local very capable framer. There is nothing like the feeling I get when I see the finished result. It’s OMG I stitched that beauty? So pleased with myself! And grateful that we can find and purchase the necessary supplies. It’s all good. Karen G
Your strand tally is so interesting. Like you both, I still work FT. I am definitely not as young as I used to be and feel it in the evening. I’m curious compared to summer season for you? Some nights I just sit and don’t do anything lol, and some nights I do stay up too late, and then of course I have the 2 steps forward and 3 steps back night. 😂. I’m going to tally strands this next week. Inspiring. I bet my count will be very similar to you Anna. I have decided to knit a min of 2 nights a week until I get a rather involved knitted shawl done. I had set it aside once, and it took me so long to get back up to speed on the pattern I have made a promise to myself to finish it. 😂. ( Skala shawl by Melanie Berg)
I'm curious to hear about your strand tally, Ginger. I probably stitch a little more in the summer but still primarily after dinner. I wonder if I'll stitch in the daytime once I'm retired... I know what you mean about having to make an effort to reconnect with a knitting pattern. The baby blanket I'm working on has an error that is worth ripping back to resolve and the blanket has been stalled for a while now... Happy Crafting! -Anna
Another Workbasket fan. Welcome to the rabbit hole. They have so many unique and quirky patterns and finding them and collecting them is like a treasure hunt. I’m there with you. If you are a squirrel lover you are in for a treat. They loved to add squirrels to their patterns every chance they got 😊
Haha! Thanks for the welcome! Have you stitched any Workbasket pieces? I think I'm seeing a theme for myself - I like a quirky pattern. I just discovered today that Kreinik Milkpaint is a silk thread. Happy Crafting! -Anna
I've watched for a while and have enjoyed your format and interaction. Makes me wish for a sister, only brothers and they don't stitch. About stitching on different fabrics, have you checked out Blackbird's The Garden Club, 12 designs on different linens, then stitched togethere. I wish I had confidence to stitch on linen. Sight issues just now. Until next time.
Thanks for your kind words. And thanks for pointing me toward "The Garden Club" - absolutely love the look of it! I know there is more sewing linens together in my future! Happy Crafting! -Anna
Speaking of Kathy Barrick....a friend of mine has this bird that seems to hanging around her house. She captured a picture and said it was a Cooper Hawk.......and I swear it so looks like the pattern of the hawk by Kathy Barrick whose name is Cooper....AAAAAA...crazy or what...lol. I too am a fan of course.
I had to get North Pole the minute I saw it. I have all the DMC flosses but am not quite certain about the color for his coat...I will get started on the border and trees and see how it goes. It is not in my budget to get the NPS and have actually never stitched with silk (I feel like I may love it and it will be cost prohibitive...I am 70 and trying to retire and I would rather stitch with DMC and save my cross stitch dollars for framing, chart purchasing and linen stash). I have been a fan of Kathy's charts and actually met her a couple of years ago at a retreat in Lancaster, PA. My first was And Heaven and Nature Sing and then I have stitched Esther, Maria P. Oliver, a small sampler that was in a magazine...Emma's Samplers and Merry Christmas Wishes. I have others I would like to stitch as well.
So many Kathy Barrick stitches and Kathy Barrick in person, Sandi! Wow! Carolyn and I are both poised to start "North Pole" when the spirit moves us. I have heard several folks considering change the color of Santa's coat - it will be fun to see what people come up with! Happy Crafting! -Anna
We had Guinea Pigs also while growing up. My brother had Clyde, my sister had Cotton and I had Frosty. There was another one called Different that took a chunk from my thumb which got me a nice tetanus shot. It really wasn't his fault though. That Sgt Pepper's yarn is very cool. I like to knit cuff down with a slip stitch heel flap. I love watching you ladies think. It's almost like we can see the wheels turning. No wonder you became teachers. I admire that greatly. I sure do wish my little grey cells worked better. Anna, that is a fascinating stitch you're doing not only with the two linens but with the stitched and sewed on pieces. I'm looking forward to more of that. I'm still also curious about your Mary Barr because, as I've mentioned before, I am very attracted to that stitch. It puts me in mind of Frank Lloyd Wright. Finally I just have to say this was a really great episode and I enjoyed it immensely.
Haha - sometimes it FEELS like the wheels are turning in our brains, literally! And I like that feeling. :) I haven't given up on Mary Barr - just need to take a fresh look at her when I have some time to reconsider the colors. Happy Crafting, Alison! -Anna
When my father died in 1968, someone planted a ginkgo tree at the foot of his grave. It has grown into the most glorious tree and not one you see often in Mississippi.
Hi Kathie! Carolyn had the idea of showing how she turns the corners on our next FlossTube - I'm looking forward to seeing her technique. Happy Crafting! -Anna
Thanks so much. I was just looking up this thread this morning and was surprised that it's silk! Have you ever stitched with it, Elizabeth? Happy Crafting! -Anna
Thanks for another enjoyable Flosstube Anna and Carolyn ! Always nice to hear your ideas and opinions. Have a great stitchy week ahead! 🥰🇨🇦
Thanks, Marilyn. Carolyn and I are both starting "Pretty Bird" by The Artsy Housewife this weekend! Happy Crafting to you, too! -Anna
I love your finish of all four of the Seasonal Etchings and love how you plan to display them on those little wooden shelf type easles. I also love your Inspired by Nature piece by Quaint Rose Needlearts - it's absolutely stunning and I love your idea of thinking of it in terms of a collage.

So good to hear, Michelle! Hoping to stitch together one day. Happy Crafting! -Anna

-Anna
@@we.are.curiouscrafters I’ve stitched God’s Critters and I’m in the process of kitting up my workbasket project
Just looked up "God's Critters". The vines look cool! -Anna
So if you using Aida you could do it over two and then go back and fill it in?
Yes! Exactly. I think that would have been easier on my eyes! Happy Crafting, Mary Lou!
She's clever, that Kathy Barrick! We have Cooper's Hawks where we live, too. Happy Crafting, Hanna! -Anna
Great presentation as always! Becky is my daughter and I love seeing the interaction with an east coast/west coast sal!
Constance!!! I'm so happy to know about this connection! I'm enjoying watching Becky and Carolyn's progress, too. Happy Crafting! -Anna

That's a beautiful story, Odette. Thank you for sharing it. Happy Crafting! -Anna
Carolyn
What fabric and count are you using for the peacock, unicorn etc…..
Hi Barbara -- I'm using 36-count Zweigart Flax (linen) and the called for Soie d’Alger silk threads. Happy Crafting! -Carolyn
How did you get your corners so "Sharp" on the owl finish? Adorable
Hi Kathie! Carolyn had the idea of showing how she turns the corners on our next FlossTube - I'm looking forward to seeing her technique. Happy Crafting! -Anna
123stitch has the Kreinik Silk Mori Milkpaint
Thanks so much. I was just looking up this thread this morning and was surprised that it's silk! Have you ever stitched with it, Elizabeth? Happy Crafting! -Anna
That is a lot of stitching to just give it away randomly....lol.....great for the receiver though...
Hi Hanna. I'm sorry, but I'm not sure to what you're referring. Would you mind telling me more? Thanks! -Anna
@@we.are.curiouscrafters LOL...sorry, I am not sure anymore....I'm sure it was not important. Thanks for the show...always LOVE it
