Did You Know In THE GOOD PLACE…

  • That the show’s creator, Michael Schur, got the inspiration for the series from another iconic television show? The Good Place was a critical smash when it debuted on NBC in 2016. Starring some of the most iconic names in comedy such as Ted Danson and Kristen Bell, the show was an original take on a distinctly utopian premise - the afterlife. However, despite its originality, the show’s premise was actually based on another popular show that dabbled in similar themes of resurrection after death. This show was the Damon Lindelof helmed ‘Lost’. Schur loved Lost so much that he personally called Lindelof when he was writing the first season of The Good Place to ask for advice.

The Good place is one of the most original show I've ever seen. Super funny and actually really deep. I keep watching it over and over again

yeah i realized thru this video how different it really is from other shows, not a lot of "utopian" shows out there. most are dystopian.

Well, i think it's being kind of underrated is also a reason I like it more. When something becomes too popular the audience changes as well and tgp fans are so great and chill as they are.

I tell everyone to watch it and no is interested! It drives me crazy! It’s literally the only show out there that has a PERFECT ending. No loose ends, bitter sweet, and PERFECTLY encapsulates the feelings we have about death and ceasing to exist but are too afraid to acknowledge : that eventually our story has an ending. I think about Jason’s line about the air inside his lungs were the same as the air outside his body all the time. I’ve had those moments and it comforted me to think that may be how the ending comes. This show may be the best television series in existence.

Kinda. This was his second inspo I guess but the original concept came from when he was driving. He'd yell out random "points" for drivers based on how much they pissed him off. He stated that this brought him to the thought of what if we could assign points for all actions

This was absolutely not the inspiration for the show. As ACCastell says below, it was an incident he had while driving - he'd been playing the "points game" since he was a kid.
How do we know? Because Schur wrote the introduction to a book called The Good Place And Philosophy, in which he talks about where the idea and inspiration came from.
