If you look at the side of the Guristas ships you'll see that they still have their Caldari names eg Worm still has M3rl1n on its left side. The RS also has its Sc0rp1on tag (lower tail iirc) which points to Caldari origin
I always enjoy your videos, thanks. A Loggerhead is a large sea turtle, which is a reptile. So it does fit but not venomous. There is a worm in the oceans that has been the bain of wooden ships for centuries. Boring holes through hulls. Might fit the ships neme.
I pronounce Gila as Yeela and Jita as Yeeta for maximum incorrectness and for the inevitable Gif to Yif reply. Also the idea that the Worm is actually Wyrm but was misspelled by pirates is my new personal headcannon.
Ahoy there Cpt. Thanks for putting this out this video, great stuff as always. The angel cartel ships definitely havee the ring of angels in the old testament to me, which would make sense given the whole angel thing. Honestly wouldn't be surprised to see those names in good omens or something. Oh and the comparison of the angels to the OPA is spot on. I may or may not have rolled gallente main who mostly flys minmatar ships after reading thise books.
One point, calling snakes worms is an Old Norse thing. The company being Icelandic, and having many other Norse mythology stuff it makes the most sense. The same wors is used for dragons as well, ormur.
"worm"/"wurm"/"wyrm" in the sense of dragon is also just an old word for "snake". A lot of mentioned of "ormr" in Old Norse just refers to serpents, especially adders. Especially early on, a lot of Germanic (Norse, Anglo-Saxon, etc.) dragons were literally just imagined as impossibly large snakes.
Welcome back to making videos! Worm spelling may be a translation thing from Icelandic to English? If I recall correctly in older texts worm or wyrm can be seen to mean not only dragons but basically anything reptilian and vaguely snakelike etc in myth and real critters (which to some really old texts are effectively the same in the eyes of the creators of the texts etc). Like the Ashimmu and Bhaalgorn, just don't get out in them much.
Yep its proto-germanic in origin, Wyrm just meaning to turn or bend. As it diverged into other languages it became wurm/worm. In a lot of modern cases it does just mean snake or snake like
Cap, have you ever planned on continuing the navy issue/fleet issue cruisers that can do wormhole ratting? I really wanna see you fly the Osprey Navy Issue and Scythe Fleet Issue. On side note, how are you doing nowadays Cap? Happy to see you finally slowly getting back on making videos🎉
Awesome as always, sidenote thought, Mekubal actually has a meaning to it. Directly connected to some sort of mystical belief of a certain religion. Look it up, it's interesting.
Angel ship names are surely inspired by Hebrew. The names have similarities to the names for some of the angels. Such as: Arariel, Kerubiel, Ramiel, and others.
Inspired by, yes, but they don't have direct reference points like other ships.

I really enjoyed this; I was really into the main empire names videos. I am really interested in language and words especially in terms of names. Yes, Thank you Captain! Venomous NOT poisonous! Well said, who is eating who is what really matters there! I believe the Mamba have neurotoxins as Venom. Yikes! Great video sir! Of all the Pirates I am not really a fan of the look of the Sansha, they are a little too I don't know... Spikey? They just don't seem to fit the Eve ships to me. The names are great, but the ship models don't do it for me! Then again, I LOVE the look of the Tristan so others would say I have terrible taste :)
Tristan is an awesome looking ship! The great thing about EVE is how diverse the ships are, design wise. Many space games are very "one note" with their ship designs. EVE has so much variety!
worm is another word for snake - at least in scandinavian countries. You also have Wyrm - a snake or dragon in english. We have two snakes in Denmark - one being the hugorm / "striking worm". The world sepent of nordic mythology is also called the midgårdsorm or worm of midgard.
Fun fact 1: mambas are elapids i.e. the family of snakes that includes cobras (both true cobras and king cobras), coral snakes, sea snakes, kraits and death adders. Rattlesnakes, cottonmouths, bushmasters and true adders are vipers. Fun fact 2: gila monsters are one of the few identified (conventionally) venomous lizards (excluding snakes, which yes, are *technically* lizards); whilst not fatal it is described as incredibly painful. Fun fact 3: as of the last few years the komodo dragon has been identified as being potentially venomous; it has glands in the lower jaw that secrete toxic proteins that are on the border of being considered venom. Scientists are currently arguing about this. It is however not the largest reptile; it IS the largest lizard (although given the technicality of snakes, the green anaconda is longer but not as heavy), but the saltwater crocodile is by a large margin the largest extant reptile. Loggerhead doesn't refer to any snake as far as I can find; it refers to either a mid-sized sea turtle or a species of shrike. One is a reptile (well, technically both are.....), the other is insanely vicious for its' size; shrikes are small birds (closely related to crows) that catch anything they can fly off with and impale said prey on sharp objects. If you Google 'loggerhead snake' what you find is documentation of loggerhead shrikes impaling snakes on things like barbed wire.
Technically, at least the suffixes of the Angel Cartel's ships are from earth: -el is from, don't quote me on that, Hebrew, just compare to daniel, israel (Kisrael!), azrael, samuel.... -bal is out of phonician/cartgenian: Hannibal, Hasdrubal and surely several others which don't come to my mind yet. And with enough linguistics and etymology studied, I guess you also find out the words before....
A Raven slaps for C3 ratting but it's fairly expensive and puts a chunk of mass on connecting holes when you jump through each time. I've not played much with it for higher tiers.
That mastery level 5 on every guristas subcap is beautiful
I now have Mastery V on every subcap in the game 😅
🤩

Good point with the Worm there! And yes, right on the Loggerhead. I suppose it's still a big reptile 😅
I pronounce Gila as Yeela and Jita as Yeeta for maximum incorrectness and for the inevitable Gif to Yif reply.

Haha excellent headcannon! Jita is officially "Jitter" not "Jee-tah", but damned I will always say Jee.

Great books and great series! Yes, they're meant to sound like Angels, but I've not found anything called Dramiel, Cynabal etc.
This was awesome! Learned a bit of lore. I hope you do more videos that include some lore, or maybe even fully focus on the lore.
More to come! I've done all the main Empires and Triglavians too!
@@captainbenziesweet! Love your videos man!

Respect to your previous video on your health as well!

That's really interesting etymology, thank you!!
13:04 it's actually a demon that either sits on your chest or "rides" (pun very, very much intended) you.
😂
I had already forgotten about the samurai Cynabal and now you've made me remember it.....
Waiting for non pirate factions btw
😁
14:48 Cruor is a romanian word that typically means cruelty or brutality but can also refer to being drenched in blood....
Oh cool!

Yup, both those ships are on the list - there's just some stuff going on in-game right now that makes it hard for me to go wormhole.ratting 😉

Thank you Captain! Maybe you could do this kind of description for the alliance tournament hulls too!
I read that the Angel Cartel use abstract slang words. They make up their own, like street slang.

True, but that seems weird to name the frigate after the biggest of all the reptiles?

Loggerhead is a kind of turtle. The Komodo dragon is actually venomous as well as having nasty bacteria in its mouth.
I'm pretty sure a few Angel ship names are from the Bible. Machariel is an adjusted Michael and Azariel is an adjusted Azriel.
@15:10 Damn you. I couldn't see it before now I can't unsee it
😂
THX 4 the overview
Glad you enjoyed!
Hi captain. Will u ever make a video about Worm? Iz my favorite ship hehe. I have a Gila but frigs are the way to go personally
Honestly, I thought I had! It's on the list 😂
a worm is a dangerous creature to some other species its actually scary
In hindsight they should have given the Serpentis ships snake related names.
Technically, at least the suffixes of the Angel Cartel's ships are from earth:

Next: review of all ships!
Its Gee-la, fight me
Pronounce it as you like ☺️ but you are wrong 😉
Hey, can you tell me if it is possible to run a raven for wormhole ratting
A Raven slaps for C3 ratting but it's fairly expensive and puts a chunk of mass on connecting holes when you jump through each time. I've not played much with it for higher tiers.
@@captainbenzie just wondering U know a fit for it
Also know any good wormhole corporations
"stone samurai".... wait... gods dammit
And now you can never unsee this
Hello , I'm newbie but played years ago on pc. I'm looking for a corp.
Umm, the Komodo Dragon is not the largest reptile in earth. That goes to the salt water Crocs.
I'm sure I said "one of" but you are quite right
What are you chatting about the angel ships. Theyre all clearly inspired by angel names
Inspired by, yes. There's no DIRECT reference as with other names in other factions.
There are some flat worms that are venomous and poisonous so technically Worm can be a dangerous animal just not in the repitle esq family.
Interesting point
loggerhead is a sea turtle
