  • In this video I show you how to make time lapse and slide shows using Kdenlive. Once you have a series of photos taken you can put them in a sequence and convert that to either time lapse or slide shows. The process is easy and you can learn making them in just a few minutes. In this video I show you step by step what menus to use and what buttons to press to get a nice time lapse. Then I highlight what the differences are between time lapse and slide show.

I used to create my timelapses in Blender, but it's a painfully tedious process and the quality of image re-scaling is poor. This seems like a good convenient replacement and I need to try it soon. Thank you for showing us!

In the current version of Kdenlive, the Project Monitor has a menu that allows you to zoom out. This is useful if you do a lot of panning and your red target slips off screen. Also, make sure editing mode for the monitor is turned on (the rectangular icon with a slash through it), otherwise you may not see the target at all.

1:01 Don't just look at the resolution and framerate in the project settings. Also note the old ITU-R 601 color space that was chosen when you selected 1920x1080 23.98fps. Rec 601 is a color space that was used in old PAL and NTSC broadcasts and DVDs. Don't use it for your HD project. Spend some time on learning the different color spaces and what's best for your project.

I was hoping to learn how to keyframe a timelapse, in the sense that I have sections of video I want to fast-forward through without fast-forwarding the whole video. All this video really did was piss me off.

The Time Remapping tool can do this. Right click on the clip and select Time Remapping (aka speed ramp). To speed up only a portion, you can also cut the clip, then right click on that portion and select Change Speed. There are many RUclips videos that cover this.
