So I decided to put it to the test. Lets face it the price of pick up trucks have sky rocketed and $50 k for a truck is a lot of money
I have a 2017 titan xd It has been a very good truck and good quality build. The 5.0 Cummins is a stout good puller It’s no race car and not supposed to be. Most people have the mindset that unless it’s big power and tons of torque it’s not worthy don’t buy it but I can’t tell you now having worked in a performance engine shop there are two kinds of motors , hard working long lasting grunt work get it done kind and the go fast , lots of power high performance in the shop more kind . My xd does what it it’s supposed to do pulled in the mountains and high wind. Good and stable There are a lot of titans with 200k-400k out there
One feature I love that you didnt mention was the in cab adjustable headlights, which only Nissan and Toyota offer. Great for hauling or towing heavy loads at night. Let's you put the light back on the road where it belongs instead of blinding oncoming traffic. Also, this engine has the most awesome exhaust note of any v8 pickup once you put an exhaust on it. My brother put the AFE side exhaust on his 18 and it sounds amazing. I have a 16 titan XD platinum reserve and love it. These trucks really are under rated and deserve a second look. And that 5.6 really moves.
I'm confused because I have this exact truck , just an 18 and the exhaust not is sweet, in fact when we run around town with all the windows down my buddy's compliment the sound
I'm an 18 Titan owner, and I'd like to pose a question for y'all to answer. Q. Is there any way to turn all of the interior lights on all at once, when you are seated in the vehicle, doors closed, and nobody inside the truck other than you??
The less people who buy the Titan, the cheaper they are for people who want it. It's not overrated but can do more than most other trucks in It's class.
That's Nissan's fault. They hired the wrong guy to lead the Titan. That guy jumped ship and now runs Mitsubishi's US operations. They should have never used the Cummins V8. The engone sucks, but created the huge and awkward front overhang on the truck. The gas V8 wasn't available until nearly a year later. And the Titan Warrior concept fixed the awkward proportions and created a ton of buzz over the new Titan but some moron at Nissan never brought the concept or styling to market. If They built the Warrior, the truck would sell. It's a better truck than the Tundra without a doubt.
They have a removable Titan Box option which is similar to Ram Boxes. The reason any real bed innovation exist today is because of Nissan. First with step to get in bed. First factory spray liner. They pioneered utlitrac adjustable Bed tie downs/ cleats. First with a damped tailgate etc....... You said it needs more power. How does it feel compared to a Ford 5.0 or GM 5.3?
I have a 2012 Sv 4X4 Nissan titan. Got it with 50000 miles and now have over 120000 miles. No major problems except for my exhaust rusted off which I knew was a possible problem before I bought it. That was probably due to I live in the northern part of Minnesota where winters are harsh and roads and harsher. Love it though so far after almost r years with it.
You hit the nail on the head with regards to needs, if a homeowner is looking for a DIY type truck but not towing large payloads this truck fits those needs. No one buys a truck for gas mileage and the pros will out weigh the cons since it will be the do it all vehicle. I’m going to wait till February and see what the Tundra reveals with its new hybrid engine, if it’s not a difference maker, I’ll look at the Titans.
@ Smoke Stack Actually some people do pay attention to gas mileage when buying a pickup. It was one of the main reasons I walked away from the Tundra. That and the salesman told me that with Toyota about $1500 off sticker was as good as they could do.
@Smoke Stack I bought a 2018 Nissan Titan SL. Sticker price was $53875 , but I paid $45000. In mixed driving it’s getting a little over 19 mpg. My wife and I are real happy with it.
Stepping out with tension that chain. That's nuts, my friend. I work in the coalmine. we do alot of pulling with chain and cables. Many of miner been killed by loaded cable and chain. Something to think about that's all.
I feel like more detail into what the truck offers would have been a big plus. Skid plates, posi rear end on top of the locking diff, gearing for the 4lo and 4 hi, seat comfort, steering comfort on rough roads, how the stock tires do, how does the truck perform on mid towing, etc. A lot of the complaints are aesthetic issues, and nothing to do with truck performance. I agree, the newer Titan was dated the moment it was made. But this truck wasnt made to compete aesthetically rather in between offroad and on road competition.
I'm a Titan fan but I'd still wait since the gas has a couple of issues such as the electrical recall, shaking, engine knocking, I think that's it. The diesel seems to have been going fine. I have a 2010 just going to install headers and cat back from AFE. Also great that Nissan goes with Bilstein instead of Rancho like GM for their off road package.
More sound in the exhaust, put the lead in it... ;) I might be biased. 17owner and Love it. Sure it has a few things I don't like, like no Apple Android, that will one day get replaced with after market, I considered looking into the 19 upgraded stereo (likely it would fit) but then saw where there put the camera button on this new model, further away. Why the flying (bleep) would you do that? For the dollars imo it's one of the best trucks on the market, sure it has a lot of misses but it really nailed a lot of things as well, like ground clearance, air vents for back seats, heated rear seats, storage under the seats and behind the seats, lots of lights in the box (I'm comparing similar model year manufacturers) It's an under rated over looked truck that drive better than the competition as well. Brand loyalty, perhaps if Fiat dodge (barf) all work together in the take over, Nissan will finally get the recognition they deserve. In closing i'd put my truck up against any of the other 3 and i think it'd win or come in a close 2nd.
Love dark green trucks, I’m going to consider a Titan for my next truck. Seems the newer trucks have 100 buttons and useless features. Titan seems like it has all the necessary things. Nice and simple👍
I think with the recent incentives, it is a good bargain for the right needs. It tows 10k lbs more confidently than other half-ton pickups and is often a better price than 3/4 ton pickups. The 5.0L Cummins is thirsty, but if your needs outweigh fuel economy concerns (which they should), then it is a good buy. The warranty is pretty good as well. I still have my "Tim-isms" about the trucks, but if the deal is right, I say go for it.
Scott Symons Remember it is a 1/2 truck. Since the tow numbers are down on 2019 I wouldn’t tow any heavier than 8,000 lbs. But that is the great thing about the XD being heavy. Heavy loads aren’t going to push you around like it would other 1/2 tons that are light.
Good video and review. I have a 2018 Titan XD with the gas engine, and I love the truck for towing my 8K camper. Rides nice and stops great. Agree that the mpg is low when towing, but we can't have everything.
Love the color. Be interested in how the paint holds up. Others have noticed the paint on recent models chips way too easy. Been looking at Titans simply because of value (option you get for money) and the warranty. I just need these trucks to be at least two years old to justify the purchase price and feel good about it.
I bought a 2019 ram 1500 big horn 5.7 hemi engine Worst decision ever. you let the truck sit for a day or two and the timing chains rattle like a old beat up engine Another thing when you're driving in stop and go traffic the transmission feels like is going to fall apart It clonks so bad it's not even funny I took it to the dodge dealer in town they claim it's perfectly fine That the noise it makes in the engine compartment it's normal for the hemi engines for which I dont agree one bit Will be trading it in @a loss for new Nissan Titan
@@bakersfieldbatteries9476 My 2019 BIG HORN is 8 months old now and when it sits for 2 days there's no problem. Must admit AC is always on so I can't hear much ( I'm starting truck remotely almost every time) . From what I've heard this engine needs 10 to 20K to brake in (don't know exactly but wouldn't be surprised). Transmission is probably software, that can be fixed. Except 2/3 little recalls ( and only problem on this truck that bothers me is OIL FILTER LOCATION 🙈) I must say UBER HAPPY with it. Sorry to hear about your problems !
It's better to buy it plain Jane then take it to the aftermarket shop and hook it up going through the Dealer would kill your Bank account Just think about what i am saying to you options if you plan on keeping it you can customize it to your liking
Great video. It would be nice if the Titan came with a factory wench. Only the Power Wagon has a factory installed one. A second entry in the truck marked with a factory wench would be great. My next truck will be a Nissan Titan XD Pro4x diesel weather or not it comes with the wench.
Interesting you bring this up. I wrote about this very idea a few years ago: www.trucktrend.com/features/1608-could-the-2016-nissan-titan-xd-pro-4x-be-a-ram-power-wagon-competitor/
Tim Lal when it comes to car audio systems, usually only one or a few car companies get to use them. For example, a Mark Levinson sound system is only in Lexus. Bang and Olufsen and Burmester are only in German brands. Revel is Lincoln only. Meridian is Jaguar/Land Rover. Bowers and Wilkins is Volvo. Ford for years only used Sony before the switch to B&O Play.
Elliott Manning - I did a “little” research and Bang & Olufsen are B&O. Pretty sure the Ford are not exactly German!!! Hahaha, just hacking at ya! Stay safe out there, Eh!
Elliot Manning! Subaru outback’s also have a B&O system. It’s not only a German car thing. And the fender system in the Titan is top notch. Yes there’s better but not in a truck that I’ve seen and I’ve driven most of the big 3s trucks!
Nissan must have changed the exhaust because the Titan used to have the best sounding exhaust period. You can hear it at 1:53. ruclips.net/video/3xIbVuIuslY/видео.html
What u thought would happen trying to pull that Legendary Bronco that's seen better days. You think it look good with the 3 inch lift and Tacoma got the army green coming out for 2020
@@Pickuptrucktalk No one will ever attach the word "premium" to a Nissan as long as they continue this practice. Maybe that's what Infiniti is for, but Toyota doesn't seem to mind if some of their cars are very, very close to being a Lexus (Avalon, Highlander Limited).
Radio buttons should not even be considered when buying a vehicle. Do the buttons turn the radio on? Yes. Does the volume buttons work? Yes. Lets move on.
Great review, but I thought you were being sarcastic about the engine note.... and then you moved on to a different topic. I honestly have no clue what you’re looking for in a factory exhaust note, the Titan’s stock exhaust is one of the best sounding exhaust in any vehicle for sale right now. Including many sports and muscle cars. Your audio was horrible for that clip and nowhere near an accurate representation.
The trd sounds good and exhaust sounds are subjective, but the Titans is much throatier than what’s shown. Not sure why the audio for that clip in the video is so muted. I’ve seen lots of comments about the sound, and “too quiet” hasn’t been a complaint until now. But I guess that’s the definition of subjective :) Great channel and glad it’s taking off!
Thanks for commenting. Not sure why my truck sounded like it did. I promise, I put the camera right next to the exhaust and revved the engine. I didn't alter the sound at all in post editing. Maybe something changed?!? I don't know.
Ok 18" tires man those are wheels that's nothing it's the size of the tires is some but the suspension is what makes it damn I hate when people do this and don't understand it.

Decent truck. Not greatest looking. But, it's very dated. Only the Cummings or, 5.6. I question it they're using a decent automatic. You can never find a king cab version. Ok. To be honest; I would consider them before dodge. They're made in Texas. Dodge is made in Mexico.
The f150 5.0 2.7 and 3.5 all have problems, serious recalls.....you know like your truck rolling or engine knocks with no solution. Nissan has poor interior quality but their motors never die
lmao you think the Titan doesn't sound good? and you bought a Tundra with engine sound that comes from the speakers? LMAO the Titan and outgoing Tundra are always rated as best sounding stock trucks.
Had an 08 Titan and nothing goes wrong. I told people to get the Titan but they all said it’s ugly and went with the other brands. It’s not that ugly and it’s a work horse and that’s all matters to me.
I don't know if they are viable enough for options that's the sad fact of it. Nissan is the most american truck right now built by americans and domestic steel. But they can't compete with the big 3 from a lot of brand loyalty and restrictions getting into the commercial segment. Nissan vans are going away and the xD was derated for tax purposes. Nissan listened to us we just didn't buy and we also didn't voice our opinions loud enough against ford's mexican automobiles which dominate our american fleets.

Just bought a rebuilt 2011 Titan sv for 6,000 ...can't beat that . Also best decision I ever made
That engine exhaust noise is interesting because TFL had it winning exhaust note. They must have made it quieter in '19.
I'm confused because I have this exact truck , just an 18 and the exhaust not is sweet, in fact when we run around town with all the windows down my buddy's compliment the sound
Yeah, now I'm confused as well.
Yes, my 2018 sounds really good and is not anywhere near that quiet.
Seems confusing, regardless, the sound the intake makes is still a sweet sound! Maybe they changed the exhaust for 19?? Hmmmmm
I have a '17 XD, and the exhaust note sounds great. The clip in this video is underwhelming for sure but doesn't compare to mine.
I'm an 18 Titan owner, and I'd like to pose a question for y'all to answer.
Q. Is there any way to turn all of the interior lights on all at once, when you are seated in the vehicle, doors closed, and nobody inside the truck other than you??
TexasBoy1965 I don’t think so. I was wondering the same thing with my 19, but couldn’t ever find a way. It’s really annoying
@@johndeeretech10, yes it is. Even my old 2009 Ram had that capability.
Loving the refresh on the 2020 Titan also
Me too!
My Nissan dealer by has had the same 3 titans sitting on their lot for 6 months. I don't think they are selling because those are all the had.
The less people who buy the Titan, the cheaper they are for people who want it. It's not overrated but can do more than most other trucks in It's class.
I like the titans. They definitely get overlooked.
Is that a stereo system from radio shack?
I agree with you 100%. Come on #NissanTitan step it up
They have a removable Titan Box option which is similar to Ram Boxes.
This day in age for a real truck you buy a Nissan. You're an idiot if you pay Ford and Chevy prices for a Half Ton truck.
Just found your channel you did a great review- I own a 2017 Titan XD and love it
Thanks!
This truck is amazing, but the 2020 is a real sight too see.
Stillen makes a great exhaust for this, unleashes like 40 more hp and sounds amazing.
The Tactical Ape but you have to apply the sticker to back window to achieve this said 40hp
You honestly believe that claim? 😂
There is zero hp gain from exhaust changes only...unless it involves the cats.
Did they change the exhaust note?
When you said it doesn´t sound good I wondered and then listen and was shocked.
It is an ongoing discussion. I need to follow up with another Titan.
@ Smoke Stack
Actually some people do pay attention to gas mileage when buying a pickup. It was one of the main reasons I walked away from the Tundra. That and the salesman told me that with Toyota about $1500 off sticker was as good as they could do.
Ronald Poley ....What did you end up buying?
@Smoke Stack
I bought a 2018 Nissan Titan SL. Sticker price was $53875 , but I paid $45000. In mixed driving it’s getting a little over 19 mpg. My wife and I are real happy with it.
I agree, a tweak of the windshield pitch, a minor fascia tweak and for crying out loud, re-style those grotesque headlights!
I love those trucks.
Does the 5 year 100K warranty just cover the first owner or is it transferable?
Nissan announced it was transferrable when they showed off the 2020 model. I’m not 💯 certain it applies to older trucks. I’ll try to find out.
@@Pickuptrucktalk much appreciated!
They are replacing engines by the boatload in the Titans right now. Something to do with an oiling issue in the number 7 cylinder.
Interesting. I hadn’t heard that.
Are you sure?
Good criticism.
I put an aero chamber on my 5.6 titan sounds great 250k and still kickin
Put a Borla muffler on and be done with it. Put one on my 13 and its still like new . No rust and has had 6 years of winter with salted roads.
You have steering wheel controls to adjust audio
True.
I have a 2013 and not looking to change for a long time. I bought mine a little over 2 years ago with 38,000 on it for $14,000.
@@tshearn624 what trim because you got an amazing deal
Paid $15k for mine with 100k miles exactly
Curious, what is your opinion on the Nissan Titan XD/CUMMINS? Looked at one over the weekend. Impressed. Interested on your take on it.
@@Pickuptrucktalk Thanks. I'm thinking about. 4000.00 dollar rebate right now too.
@@scottsymons6152 Not enough money on the hood. With Titan sales as low as they are, I wouldn't hesitate to get at least $6k right off the top.
Best truck I ever owned...Titan...
Love the color. Be interested in how the paint holds up. Others have noticed the paint on recent models chips way too easy. Been looking at Titans simply because of value (option you get for money) and the warranty. I just need these trucks to be at least two years old to justify the purchase price and feel good about it.
I've noticed that about Titans also. The paint seems not to hold up very well. Whats up with that?
Truck has plenty of power for what it is! Its comparable to other V8's (F5.0L, Ram 5.7, Toyota 5.7, GM 5.3L)
Excellent video, here from México.
Why didn't you get 2019 RAM 1500 it's same price, looks better, better options?
This is a truck I reviewed.
I bought a 2019 ram 1500 big horn 5.7 hemi engine
Worst decision ever.
you let the truck sit for a day or two and the timing chains rattle like a old beat up engine
Another thing when you're driving in stop and go traffic the transmission feels like is going to fall apart
It clonks so bad it's not even funny
I took it to the dodge dealer in town they claim it's perfectly fine
That the noise it makes in the engine compartment it's normal for the hemi engines for which I dont agree one bit
Will be trading it in @a loss for new Nissan Titan
@@bakersfieldbatteries9476
My 2019 BIG HORN is 8 months old now and when it sits for 2 days there's no problem.
Will you buy v6 over v8??
Me? Nope. I don’t think the fuel economy savings make up for those loss of capability and resale value.
If the women don't find ya handsome, they should at least find ya handy.
Heck yeah!
I will like to hear your thoughts on the Diesel engine, I am in the market for one. Appreciated it.
Diesel is slow, sucks down the fuel and seems really heavy for the XD pickup. Just not a great choice imo.
Pickup Truck Plus SUV Talk Appreciated it, man. Will cross this one off the list
Sounds like they changed the exhaust for 2019 my 18 xd crackles like crazy and sounds like a v8
Was just saying that. Shame!! :(
That's a shame that truck to sound awesome, just Nissan following the croud of 100k luxury trucks that drive and sound like Camry's.
My 19 cackles at around 4000 rpms
lol crazy man! nice video
Thanks!
I'm a golfer myself, how come you don't just put your clubs into the box of your truck?
I often do put them in the back. Just depends. On this video, I put them in the back to show off cargo space.
It's better to buy it plain Jane then take it to the aftermarket shop and hook it up going through the Dealer would kill your Bank account
Just think about what i am saying to you options if you plan on keeping it you can customize it to your liking
Ha, you mean winch... a wench from the factory would be a good idea too :)
LOL
both titans only have class 4 hitch. thats a deal breaker for me. Ram & Tundra have class 5 hitch. 2,000 lbs toung weight.
Man, that's a solid point and one I overlooked. Thanks for sharing.
Mine came with a class 5, what's going on here
@@jstitan2972 only the 2017 model year came with class 5 hitch only 2018 Don never had them
How weird, mine has a class 5
J Q1985 so strange. Now I want this truck back to look at it again!
Fender audio? I thought that audio system was exclusive to Volkswagen.
That's like saying Cummins is exclusive to Ram. Lol
You can hear it at 1:53. ruclips.net/video/3xIbVuIuslY/видео.html
red green show is excellent program.
I'm pollin for ya 😉 We're all in this together.
Keep your stick on the ice!
My only 2 complaints are the windows go up very slow and gas mileage isn't good...
This was a refreshing video compared the the usual TFL dodge propaganda! Glad i discovered your channel man! I have a 18 xd gas shes a gem
Thanks for finding me!
Dude ? Have you seen the latest crash test of a titan truck ? Really bad.
Newsflash: old pickup doesn’t pass latest new crash test.
Jak Pryce I’m not sure what results you’re referring to but the titan did well. Ford, Chevy and Titan all scored the highest.
What u thought would happen trying to pull that Legendary Bronco that's seen better days.
You think it look good with the 3 inch lift and Tacoma got the army green coming out for 2020
Midnight pine and Moab sunset are definitely on my radar!
It IS a really ice looking truck for sure!
The radio buttons are identical to my wife's 2015 Versa Note and my 2018 Frontier Pro-4X.
Exactly. Button recycling at its best.
@@kingstonsean I just wish Nissan would spend that little bit more to make their trucks better. Those small details really rub people the wrong way.

I wanted it to send more like the Toyota Tundra TRD Pro exhaust.
The trd sounds good and exhaust sounds are subjective, but the Titans is much throatier than what’s shown. Not sure why the audio for that clip in the video is so muted.
I’ve seen lots of comments about the sound, and “too quiet” hasn’t been a complaint until now. But I guess that’s the definition of subjective :)
Great channel and glad it’s taking off!
Thanks for commenting. Not sure why my truck sounded like it did. I promise, I put the camera right next to the exhaust and revved the engine. I didn't alter the sound at all in post editing. Maybe something changed?!? I don't know.
You bitch too much.
jack mehoff who’s bitching too much?
Ok 18" tires man those are wheels that's nothing it's the size of the tires is some but the suspension is what makes it damn I hate when people do this and don't understand it.
Those "tires" look a lot bigger than "18 inches". Perhaps you mean 18 inch wheels and ______ sized tires such as a 32 inch tire for example.
Dammit. Sorry, yes that’s what I meant.

Decent truck. Not greatest looking. But, it's very dated. Only the Cummings or, 5.6. I question it they're using a decent automatic. You can never find a king cab version. Ok. To be honest; I would consider them before dodge. They're made in Texas. Dodge is made in Mexico.
Sorry sir that is Incorrect. They're made in Canton Mississippi.
Correct. He must be thinking about the Tundra which is built in Texas. Ram is built in Michigan and in Mexico like Chevy does and Ford did.
The blue ball line wasn't really necessary! 😁
What? Did I really say that?!? LOL. The stuff I say on camera.
The f150 5.0 2.7 and 3.5 all have problems, serious recalls.....you know like your truck rolling or engine knocks with no solution. Nissan has poor interior quality but their motors never die

I quit watching when the guy said for the second time that it has 18" tires... It has 18" WHEELS and ~33" tires.
Sorry.
