In my opinion. You are a big RUclips in this field. I can only watch your channel because you make it quick and simple and you always make the videos fun. I've gone back and watched every single video you've made. Keep up the amazing work!
Hi Mason! The early videos are hard to watch but I didn't want to take them down because just maybe someone can get something out of them! =D Thanks so much!
Very nice. I put a lot of miles on a chrome Yankee drill back in my days as a telephone installer. Now they all use battery power and self tapping screws. Thanks for the fun.
That Craftsman drill is a collectors dream. Thanks to Mr Pete for sharing. I've never seen him restore a hand tool so it was great to see you have a go. Thanks for the video!
Turned out beautifully! A classic example of your restoration skills. You never cease to amaze me with what you can do to average tools and take them over the top!
Beautiful job on those 3 drills. Mr. Pete should be proud!! He may have more subs but it was you who got me interested in restoring old tools. Best hobby I've ever had. Your videos are always fun and informative so it's no surprise that other channels mention you. Blue paint went on the clamp just a little while ago. Coming down to the final stretch. Can't wait to see everyone's entry. I imagine the competition will be tough as folks will have pride showing their country's colors.
Wow, when you have Mr. Pete sending you stuff it is pretty safe to say you are a "big fish". Lyle is a gifted instructor and his humor is just so funny. Anyway, outstanding job. Cheers
You and Mr Pete are an inspiration I have that same aluminum hand drill. Love my old tools I get to share with my students. Keep up the great work. Super job on the projects.
Great stuff agreed Mr Pete is a treasure for sure . I had a Stanley Yankee type one when I was an apprentice and I loved it for drilling mainly it seemed to do wood pilot hole better for screws than any tool I had . Then when I had all my tools stolen I could never find one to replace it . I found copy ones but never the same or as good to use . You have done him proud and made a fantastic job of them thanks again great and very enjoyable . Have a good weekend John . Ta tar for now 👍
Along with so many tools we had to leave behind when we left Jersey was a Yankee Handyman that as a kid I loved to push slowly and watch it work. You are the tool king. Thank you for letting me relive thise days. I currently gathering old tools and using your channel to bring them back so my grandson can have those memories! Would love to send you a pic of my progress!
Those enclosed egg-beater style drills are cool! The black handled Craftsman push drill looks a lot like my Yankee No. 45. That is my go-to "cordless" drill!
Hitting the big time now! :) I have watched Mr Pete for about the same length of time, absolutely tremendous teacher and fellow tool enthusiast (and also the reason no-one on the West Coast can find a used Logan Lathe!). Wonder if his old shop students appreciated him as much as we do now, I would love to be able to go back in time and talk to my old shop teacher knowing what I know now. Great video!
Hi David! I love his sense of humor... When he jokes about going to Ace hardware and asking the girl with the tattoos and piercings about a tool... Cracks me up! =D Thanks!!!!!!!!!
I have to find one of those Yankee Handyman drill drivers. I had my grandfather's that looked identical but lost it in a house fire along with the rest of his tools. Great resto on all 3 and I am always glad to see the cats!
At almost 60, @mrpete222 is my shop teacher - the one I wished for because I wasn’t allowed to take shop as a kid. As i start my machine shop, I learn something from him every single night; as I’m sentimental about the 60s and 70s, his endless pieces of savvy trivia and clever veiled social observation are a delight. Lets all wish him good health and long life!
I wouldn’t call you a small guy. You have a great following, you present easy to do and easy to understand subjects and just about everybody here in Australia knows Scoutcrafter. Besides I look forward to your videos each week. You got me into hand tool restoration and are still my go to guy if I ‘m stuck on something. I also respect, follow and enjoy your recommendations, including Mr Pete.
I think I had the same reaction when I was watching the Mr Pete video and he mentioned that he was sending Scoutcrafter the drill for a resto. Glad to see the continuation and you working your magic.
Well now I know how to tackle the inside of my Yankee Handyman. Funny, I just saw Armondo Line said the same thing! Those red highlight you added to both the Craftsman and the Yankee make them pop! Thanks again for the education John!👍🏻 Couldn't find any Jewel weed, eh?😊 Hope it abates soon.
Hi Lee! There are lots of products to help the itch and swelling of Poison Ivy but no matter what it has to run its course... So for a couple weeks you look like 10 pounds of poop in a 5 pound bag! LOL
Those tools came out very nice and a fine tribute to Mr.Pete. He has a tremendous channel and I have learned so much from him. Thanks to Mr. Pete and you.
Wow. I'd never seen a drill like that one. Yesterday I was looking for a wire cutter and got into an old box I'd forgotten about. I found three or four hammers and several tin snips I'd completely forgotten about. I had bought them about ten years ago and packed them when I moved out here. What was amazing was that there were two stud finders I'd forgotten about. They both used the typical 9 volt batteries. One was a famous USA brand and the other was some Chinese brand battery. The USA one was bulging while the Chinese one actually was still working!! Just the opposite of what I expected. - Kathie
Hi Kathie! Of all the batteries the 9V ones are the least likely to leak, it's the way they re constructed. Another thing to be aware of is if the devise is sealed (air tight) then the batteries will leak at a much faster rate! Like flashlights with rubber o rings! =)
Hi, John!! That 50s aluminium drill reminds me of the Leytool hand drill of similar period..... Can't wait to start on my Yankee Handyman 133, now...was wondering how to tackle the inside! I think they were clear, initially, but obviously yellow with age. Cheers!!
You are the big guy to me! You're a real mentor. I'm still sanding on my clamp. But I'm getting there. It is gonna be hot over here this weekend (up in the 90's) so I'm hoping the sanding will work out! Thank you and have a great weekend! (I tought TGIF the first thing when I got in my car today after work LOL)
Great job on all of those pieces. That is a very cool looking drill, for sure. I think I may have seen him (Mr Pete) a long time ago. I'll have to check him out again.
Wow they came up amazing scout they are so well made the stuff today Can’t even compete the hand drill could be a great next challenge for Us all . I am working on some yankee screwdrivers at the moment the Build quality is amazing the gearing weight is great I love these old tools.🛠🙏
Another great presentation. I will try and use some of the tricks you used on the drill on a Safe-T-Grip No. 15 HD hammer with plastic heads that I picked up today at a garage sale. Thank you sir.
Busch aluminum polish is available on Amazon and while it's expensive ($25) none of us old farts would probably ever need another bottle. I lived in Colchester, CT from '99 - Dec ;12 so when I saw the Zagray swap meet video it brought back a lot of fond memories. I commuted to Shelton & back every day for approx. 9 years so I'll let you figure out how many miles that was - LOL... Make sure you go back when Harry's Hamburgers is open for the season.
Hi Al! We will be back there in the Fall for the show! Hope you can make it! =D I found Busch on another website for $6.99 a bottle... Much more reasonable. Thanks!!!!!
Great job as always. I have picked up many of those different push drills over the years. Some times I will buy one just to get the bits. I get poison oak real bad. Many years ago my doctor at the time was also very allergic to poison oak. He was also a scuba diver. After a diving trip in salt water he said the weeping sores on his skin cleared up very quickly. He also said that real warm water during a shower or bath would make the poison spread because he said the pores in your skin were more open. A cool bath seemed to help me. My Pete is one of my favorite RUclips people also.
I have that same black handled Craftsman drill-driver in the kitchen tool drawer. You’ve inspired me to again attempt to polish that vomit smell from the handle. 👍👍👍
You always make tools look brand new. You are an inspiration to everyone with your “how to” videos. You are always mentioned on a lot of RUclips channels. You are the guru everyone looks up to. A lot of You tubers try to emulate you! Thanks for all the very informative and interesting videos.
That drill really came out nice.It looked like the surface of the moon before yo got a hold of it. What a difference! Lot of work. Screwdrivers don't look like the same ones. The red embellishment really fits right in on that drill and the cap to the yankee. Nice resto on all three!! Mike
I laughed so hard when you mentioned intentional paint vs splattered paint! That is so true! Drip some paint on by accident and dynamite won't get it off! Unless that was the look you wanted, then it will come off on your naked hand on the first use. CRAZY!
LOL Ian, if you look at some of his early videos you will really enjoy the content! One of my favorite videos of his is a road trip he did to the Vaughn Hammer Factory!!!! =D
Nice Work!! I love that drill!! The alternating black and red paint takes a steadier hand than I have!! Everything came out GREAT!! Now to go subscribe to Pete's channel!
The "Yankee" is missing the Phillips bits. My dad had a Yankee screwdriver, which I now have, that we used around the house for hanging pictures, brackets, etc. and it was great for those kind of jobs.

Hi Scout. ....thanks for taking such good care of Mr Pete's tools. I know he said he didn't want them back but maybe he'll change his mind after seeing this. Just a suggestion but it might be nice to see how you do the painting sometime. Thanks and have a happy day!

I probably would have been in trouble a lot because I watched John Wayne in the Green Berets. That little kid looking for Petersan stuck with me. It was bad enough when I worked with a man named Petersen.
Great job as always... I have a couple of questions. 1).On the Yankee Drill was the paper towel dry or did you use some type of compound to help get the scratches out? How do you sharpen the drill bits for push drills? Michael from Canada
Hi Michael, The Goop gets much of it off but then Wet sanding with 320 gets the rest off.. The tip of a push drill is very much like a standard drill, only the flutes are straight. I didn't sharpen these but to sharpen them you need a very fine stone and a soft touch to first grind the angle and then the relief! =D
Love the drill restoration. Be careful with bakelite, sometimes they use asbestos as a fibre filler. Do you think you will ever do a metal wood plane? Cheers from downunder. 🇦🇺
HI Scoutcrafter. A great video as always. Could you find time to do a video in the future about straightening a bent screwdriver shaft without the Dake? I have 's nice set of wooden handled US made Irwin screwdrivers, but a couple have bent shafts. Thanks in advance.
