I love seeing Kirsty and Phil working together instead of the format that has them competing with some scripted sniping back and forth. They make better partners than competitors.

I'm glad Debbie got to have the home she wanted un the neighbourhood she wanted. That is a huge, huge adjustment Hardeep is asking of her.

Umm... they're pooling in the proceeds from Hardeep's mom's house as well, so it's not so much a choice as an obligation.

@@kunalsen2123 I understand that, but there is no reason why the proceeds from the mother's house could not go into finding her good care accommodation, if she is so ill that she needs to have someone available at all times.
But this goes beyond money. It is not common practice to have one of the spouse's parents move in with a nuclear family. I sensed that the wife was not at ease with this decision, that the husband knew it, but that he was determined to go ahead anyway. To make it even more difficult, I intuit that the wife was expected to be a minder, or maybe even a nurse, to her mother-in-law. Maybe I am reading to much into it, but personally nothing would make me agree to such an arrangement. That is a huge burden to put on the wife.

@@lysem4392 it's one of the consequences of intercultural marriages. In the Indian culture, it's extremely common to see multigenerational families under one roof in the joint family system. Granted, in England, the arrangement is uncommon, but then we're not privy to the prognosis. If the couple believes the mother has not long to live, they've not invested in the nursing home, expecting to inherit her share shortly (and then the whole house becomes theirs) and spend the last days together. Sorry for putting in crudely but it could be a possibility. The alternative (selling off the mom's house and reinvesting that into her care) would mean more expenses and less investment and worse, the couple may not be able to afford a house just by themselves just yet. No one knows just how much of the kitty the mom's house sale is bringing here. If the homemaker is feeling burdened with reduced support in childcare and increased expectations of adult caregiving, she has to compensate that with the fact that the woman had helped her out with her two childbirths and is indeed willing to put her share of money into the family pool that otherwise she would never be able to partake in, assuming it'd have predated the marriage. She may not be in the best spirits in the short term, but I have a feeling she knows she's sorted in the long term.

@@kunalsen2123 I understand all the points you are making, and of course you are entirely right that we don't know what it is exactly that is ailing the husband's mother.
I haven't rewatched the episode, but as I recall there was a moment where the husband said something to the effect that his wife would get used to having his mother live with them, then gave a little laugh, half nervous, half dismissive - or maybe mostly dismissive, and that didn't sit well with me. Also, there is my own natural tendency to not like too many people around me, not counting other questions i have: does the wife like her mother-in-law and get Along with her? Does the mother in law speak English ( she didn't say a Word during this episode)? Will the mother-in-law expect to rule the household, as is usual in Indian multi-generation households (if my understanding isn't faulty) ? Also, I once worked with a woman of Chinese birth whose mother lived with her and her family, and whose life was a misery because of it. I know my own mother would have driven me insane if I had had to live with me.
So because of my own personal experience and personality no amount of money in the world would make an arrangement such as this couple's worth it to me. But I am not these people, they are not me, and it might have worked out perfectly. I hope it did. I assume that at least the children were happy to have their grandmother living with them.

you need to put proper production dates on these. Otherwise its not properly contextualised and functionally meaningless entertainment.

If you see one couple being helped by Phil and Kirsty in a single episode, it was filmed in or before 2006, or it was a part of their other show Relocation, Relocation, which ended in 2010. Starting 2007 was when Phil and Kirsty had two separate house hunts in each episode.

I haven't seen these before so it didn't concern me. They have to go with the date that It was uploaded to RUclips (which was in 2022). But I do know what you mean because another show from a few years ago (hard to sell, restyling the home) is back with a new name and and of course the current uploaded date too, but changing the name of the show is being a big sneaky and insulting to me, like I wouldn't notice.

I find it entertaining no matter what the year. I don't care if they are old programmes, they are still fun to watch. Not sure what you mean by 'functionally meaningless entertainment.' They function as entertainment to me, and I find meaning in more than just the prices of houses. I like looking at the different kinds of houses that are available, and I also learn quite a bit about searching for a home, what to look for, where to compromise, and so on.

Who cares? Really, I'm tired of people complaining that these are not the newest possible episodes recently shown on television (presumably that's the complaint). So what if they are old? We still get to see inside houses all over the country. We still learn much about the business of searching for a home, compromising, and so on. I don't intend to buy a home in the UK, but I have a friend who needs to move and go searching for some place more suitable, and I think she could learn a great deal about finding a more suitable house than the way she did it 20 years ago when she bought her first house. Also, I've gleaned many hints about how to decide if a house is a good deal and will work for you - which I've passed on to friends who are searching for houses in other countries. It really doesn't matter to me - since I'm not in the market to buy a house in the UK - when the show was made. I learn from the old and the new, and find Kirstie and Phil entertaining no matter the age of the programme.
