I live in California so what's the big deal? LOL. I lost count of the earthquakes I've been in. The coolest one was the telephone lines touched each other and the transformers exploded or discharged. There were explosions going off all over the neighborhood where I was at and it reminded me of watching the Iraq war on TV and Iraq being hit by missile strikes.
@rmendoza5953 well when yiu live in Australia there ks none of this. I didn't even see snow to I was 45yrs old on a work to trip to the Netherlands. So maybe no big deal for you and not such a big deal for me but was an experience. Have you ever been to Asia or just from the lounge at home.
As an Aussie who never experienced an earthquake until I lived in the Philippines. Then we had multiple tyhoons, earthquakes and even the Taal Volcano erupt. Though the thing I see during these times is everyone pulling together and see a real community spirit which was nice.
I got married to my wife here in Davao city with her family and friends there. I love Davao and it got many things to do. Fantastic weather, beaches, lovely food ( healthy food and not junk food ). Thinking of retiring there one day. I am from the UK
Great upload as usual mate - thanks. Davao gets multiple earthquakes a year so those cracks might have been there a while. It’s a city I’ve looked into retiring to, so this has been super helpful. Thanks again.
Really enjoying these last 2 videos with you being in the Philippines. Looking forward to more of your continuing adventures there. Really cool that you ran into the old Yank. He seemed like a really good guy! Take care, mate.
I hope you will have a good experience while your here at Davao city. I actually met you in person at Magsaysay park while your drinking the native coffee...all the best for you.
After being born and lived in Southern California for over 45 years you don’t usually wake up for earthquakes unless they are at least a 6.0 - of course the last 10 years I have traded earthquakes for tornadoes 🌪️ by living in Kansas. Keep up the good videos LJ - which happens to be my initials too…
I started watching RUclips in 2007 with one of my other channels, and I have to say, that was the best reenactment I have ever seen! I grew up in Alaska with a lot of Earthquakes, and I tell you, anyone who says they would not be scared hasn't been in one. The ground moving is absolutely terrifying! Had to subscribe bro, hope you do some videos on Palawan like El Nido or Caron. Or maybe Cebu as well. Sumar should be interesting as well. Great video!
Gday Kevin, thanks for subscribing! Alaska must have been quite the experience with all those earthquakes. Glad you enjoyed the video! Cebu is definitely on my list, ill look up the other ones mentioned. stay tuned for more adventures! ✌
Good day and good on ya, LJ! Glad you survived the quake, that was a superb reenactment. Looks like Davao is a good place for you to camp out in for the time-being 🏝
Thanks for the breakdown on the cost of living since i was at least always curious to know more about it and i am also very happy to know that the Earthquake did not go too far because i am living in an area with small but somewhat frequent earthquakes and the experience is never pleasant even though we pretty much got used with it.
I was born and raised in California. Earthquakes are a way of life. For someone who has experienced their first earthquake your reaction was about right. Overtime, you become accustom to them and in California you don't really pay any attention to them unless they hit 6.0 or higher. Living in a 3rd world country, I would suggest not to stay on a floor higher then the 3rd floor of any building, this way you can get down to ground level quickly. Third-world build standards are not up to par for earthquakes. Good Luck Mate!
Remember when New York had a 3.0 and everyone was freaking out and here in California we was all laughing 😂 yes us Californians are definitely use to earthquakes
Don't underestimate the capability of the engineers in the Philippines. They build high rise structures in Dubai and Saudi Arabia. If your impression that hi rise in the Philippines would simply collapse you're mistaken. Earth quake as high as 7 on the Richter scales survives and didn't collapse. The se mostly in Makati and Taguig area, where hi rise are. as tall as 84th.
When you're living this lifestyle you're not scared of some catastrophe happening. If it happens, it happens. But in the meantime, you gotta live life to the fullest. Love your content man, keep it up.
Enjoy your videos very much. I have a home in Davao and another one up north in the mountains. Waiting to retire in the USA.now soon to be full time expat
I was also there in 2019 mate Davao earthquake on the 36th floor, it was the most terrifying thing I've ever experienced and it done me mentally for a long time. I left Davao the next day.
Thanks for the blog I had a similar experience in Manila during an earthquake this year that was up higher. It scared the hell out of me I will say knowing something about construction they do build their buildings for earthquakes so even though you might see a lot of cracks, they put just a ton of rebar additionally sell their extremely beef up, but that doesn’t take away. It scares the hell out of you when it’s going on.
The Esquire seems to be enjoying himself. Mindanao is full of beautiful ladies. Go down to General Santos City and check out Sarangani, a small island just off the coast. Stay safe.
Come to the Big Island of Hawaii if you like earthquakes...hehe...when I was leaving Davao to head to the airport in 2019 there was an earthquake but you couldn't feel it while driving in the taxi...I don't think they happen as often there as they do here..if you go out to the suburbs you can live a lot cheaper for sure...enjoy!
Hi just Subscribed. Nice vid. I’m a fellow Australian 🇦🇺 that will be travelling to Davao in Feb. I’m glad I found this and will tune in to see next vid. Cheers 🍻
Love the last 2 Davao videos. I've been through several big quakes in the Philippines. They're actually pretty common there. Big ones are followed by many days of aftershocks. Look for building as quake-proof and typhoon-proof as possible and eat more Durian.. At least with weather, you get a warning!
Please make a video on what is your eating habit and what do you eat throughout the day to be fit and healthy. What makes you healthy without cooking at home.
Lived there for years, great city! Wish I knew you were coming over, I'd have directed you over to better accommodations, Esq. Also, if you know the area, you can get some good eats for cheap (not unhealthy stuff either). I think once you know the area and situate yourself, you can easily bring down those costs with an overall better standard of living =) Great vid though! keep it up brother, I'm tuned in! (BTW you're probably the youngest white guy in the city at this point lol)
Another good one Esquire. Looking forward to the next adventure. LJ have you thought about asking one of those security ladies about why there is such a presence of security. I looked up Davao and what was said that this city is one of a couple most safest city's in the Philippines. Cheers mate.
My aussie mate Geoff was drinking a beer in the midnight rambler in Barrio beretto when the building shook and rhe table shot 6 foot forward but he managed to dive and catch the beer before it hit the floor.........one lucky fooker was Geoff 555
Its a little pricey but Pearl Farm is a great little resort to spend the night over on Samal Island. I think the cost may have doubled since the last time I was there but there are several others to choose from.
G’day LJ! Great part of this beautiful world. Blessed that you survived the shake! 🙏🏼 Your thoughts on ease of socialising with Sheila vs Danang? Explore and regale your adventures Esquire!
